RIP jimmy buffet. Him, kane & stanley on stage in 2010. Yep, this is one of the many shows I attended over the years never ever saw him but looking at this pic it seems to me he was a bit on the shorter side.

I saw him every year he came to the Chicagoland area from 1999 thru 2015. Moved to Florida in 2016 and he only was near me twice. Went to 1 of the shows, but the 2nd one was with the Eagles and ticket prices started around $300, which was way out of my price range. Plus I saw the Eagles with Glen Frey, had no interest with Vince Gill

RIP jimmy buffet. Him, kane & stanley on stage in 2010. Yep, this is one of the many shows I attended over the years the whole interview was pretty good but this is the kane/buffet related stuff. On June 9, Patrick Kane scored the winning goal in overtime to secure the Chicago Blackhawks' first Stanley Cup title since 1961. With the Blackhawks reporting for camp Saturday to begin their NHL title defence, Kane spoke with Globe and Mail hockey writer Eric Duhatschek about the best summer of his life.
Q: Can I start by showing you my iPod? It has 208 songs by Jimmy Buffett, including Boat Drinks, the one you sang with him when you brought the Stanley Cup on stage during his concert in Chicago last month. What did you know about Buffett beforehand, other than he was an old guy, losing his hair, who sang about beaches, bars and boats?
A: I knew a couple of his songs. I knew he had his own plane. I knew he owned a $50-million hotel called Margaritaville. I knew he had his own beer called Land Shark. It was pretty funny doing some research on him - and looking up and learning some of his songs. I didn't actually know what song I was going to sing until I got there. But when they made the call to me, they said: 'We'll make you a deal. We'll give you the Cup for a weekend because we know you want to have in it Buffalo but you also want to bring it to Chicago. So we'll give it to you for two days if you help us and come on stage with Jimmy Buffett.' I said: 'Is that really a question? Of course, I'll do that.'
Q: So Boat Drinks. That song includes the lyric: 'Twenty degrees and the hockey game's on / Nobody cares, they're way too far gone / Screamin' "boat drinks" ' … And there's also a reference to the visitors scoring on the home rink, which you is what did in the final game against the Philadelphia Flyers to score the winner and finish the series off in six games.
A: Yeah, that's why they picked that song - because of all the hockey references.www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/kane-discusses-the-best-summer-of-my-life/article1213730/

kind've before my time but this picture of him seems to match a lot of things that have been said about him today. interesting to read about him on his wiki page. weighing in at 13 pounds 6 ounces at birth it appears he was born to be a football player.

Oh wow! Wasn’t aware of any illness he had. passed away in his sleep at home so it sounded to me at least like it was sudden and unexpected.

R.I.P. Matthew Perry at 54. Sad news. Wiki says he drowned in his hot tub. He was a big Ottawa Senator's fan. I wasn't a huge fan of the "Friends" show but he was my fav character and i liked how he wrote about his addiction(s) in his hope to help others. RIP indeed.

I really didn’t watch Friends when it was a current show but have occasionally watched a few reruns and like most comedies IMO it was uneven with funny moments and some not so funny ones too. He did have some good lines at times. I had heard he had drinking issues but never followed any of that closely either.

they were a lot of fun to watch, tommy in particular. great comedic duo. and if you asked me who played acoustic guitar on john lennon's "give peace a chance" in the late '60s i can say for a fact that tommy smothers wouldn't have made my list of guesses. funny how wanting a career in folk music could lead to a career in comedy. folk music and comedy are two things not often associated together.

wondering if many americans here watched SCTV? it was kind of the poor man's/canadian version of SNL.
anyways...joe flaherty died at 82, joining john candy who died 30 years ago and harold ramis who passed 10 years ago.
actually i was surprised to find out some time ago joe flaherty wasn't canadian, he was born in pittsburg. andrea martin who was another member of the cast was born in maine. like many i thought the whole cast was canadian.

bob cole dead at 90. in my mind the best hockey play by play my nation produced.
50 years on hockey night in canada, his last year was 2019.
on a sidenote, i'd no idea he was a world class curler before his broadcasting career. he represented newfoundland twice in the 70's in "the brier" which simply put is the superbowl of men's curling in canada.
RIP.
edit: i had no idea bob cole did the radio broadcasts in the 8 game '72 summit series between canada and russia. i recall listening to game 7 in class at school on the radio but at the time had no idea who bob cole was.
here's cole's call on canada's greatest goal ever. no offense to foster hewitt who did the tv broadcast but i like cole's version better.
no matter who called it, that goal will always give me goose bumps.

Just turned 49 two days before. So broadcasting for 50 is huge. Let alone being lucky enough to live for 50. 90 is a nice age. No matter how long, it’s never enough time. He was a beauty!!!
