A current Bleacher Report mock draft had the Hawks, at #9, taking a goalie with their first pick. If that goalie is Askarov, I would be on board with that. Askarov seems to be the real deal, and I fully understand he’s still very young. I think he had an awful WJC. He was pulled in a game, and overall wasn’t very good. Now, that tourney doesn’t define a career, but it has to raise questions about him being a big game player. I think Askarov falls like most goalies. It’s tough to waste a 1st round pick and the kid may not play for 3-5 years. There’s a good chance that GM won’t be around to see him play. So a goalie had better be a real top ten talent to be picked. Like Oettinger, I’d think he maybe falls into the teens. I think right now the Hawks actually have a good amount of goalies coming in. Gravel looks promising, Namilov, Lankinen, Delia, Peeters, and possibly Subban. I don’t think we need much more at the moment. Unless they feel Askarov is the next big thing in net, I wouldn’t waste a top ten pick on him. And with this more than likely being the Bowman’s last year here. He needs a home run with this pick!!!

If he's 5'10" 180lbs @18,he ISN'T too small IMO. Sounds like a young player who could easily top out at a stout 6' 195lbs with no negative affect on speed and quickness......he's already bigger then a half dozen forwards on our roster. I'll only speak for myself here,I don't need giants but I also don't need to see an ongoing experiment of how small players can be and still survive in the league. I'm not sure how many sub 170lb players are in the league but that describes our young sniper,a prospect who skated 20+ games on our top line last year, our most recent D call up and our most promising NCAA D prospect is a big breakfast over 170. The number of sub 180lb players and prospects are too numerous to list. Hitting, fighting and the rough stuff aside,it has to be difficult just staying healthy when giving up 30lbs going up against the average player at 200+lbs. There are smaller players who excel in the game but all are fast, ellusive and highly skilled and live mostly on the perimiter as forwards and move the puck as D-men....they're also targeted relentlessly in the PO's when the aggressive fore-check wears heavily on even the bigger players. Perfetti doesn’t look like he’d weigh 180 even if he was piggybacking one of those kids. Puffed up physical stats I’d say. Kid has talent but there is also enough video out there of him getting physically manhandled. Still, I’d take him. His game is developed, he’s got years of physical maturity ahead of him. If he fell to us he’s the one. As for our defense, how do we absorb three young defensemen playing at 180 or less? Boqvist is already starting to look like a bandaid after half a season. Seems to me one has to go to free up some space and get picks. Here’s hoping the larger Carlsson sticks, he seems to be an intriguing prospect. I don't know how we absorb three young, undersized D-men either or how they absorb the physical rigors of the game but it's an experiment we're about to see,hell…...even our 'tough guy' weighs in @170lbs!LOL! I still believe most Orgs give a longer look at their own 23yro,3rd round, physical D-man for the above reason. Gilbert's play seemed WIDELY appreciated his first month up and I still don't remember that much criticism of him before his demotion,he made mistakes other, smaller D-men got away with all the time IMO. How much better does a hard nosed #6 really have to be and how much better does a 23yro D-man get with a solid 100 tilts under his belt. We can debate Gilbert's readiness but we can't debate the Org's indifference to his rugged style of play...….engaging in front, rubbing off an oncoming forward and sticking up for team mates didn't help his cause one bit. Lucas Carlsson looks responsible so far and @6' 189lbs is at least big enough to handle the physical demands of the league. The bigger D prospects like Vlasic and Regula look to be a few years away but at least there's s few in the system......it's been some time. It's still hard to see how more than one of these kids makes the lineup anyway with Keith,Murph,Maata,de Haan and Seabs(the later two should be ready to go when things restart) without thining the herd. Do you get Keith to waive and move him or is his leadership, play and massive minutes worth the 5.5M? Do you move Murph or Maata since they probably bring some return or at least require no sweetener? Do you add sweetener and move de Haan? Buyout Seabs or get him to waive and retain money? Does the FO have what it takes to make these tough decisions or does Rocky patting everyone on the head and saying 'good job' just cause more complacency?

When you try looking down the road at the Hawks situation in net, I can see the thinking behind a G with the Hawks first pick. I didn't know anything about Askarov so I read a couple of scouting reports on Askarov, with one report being short comments from several different people. Just going by those two reports, I can see why he's thought of as a top 10 pick. In that same mock, it had NJ taking Anton Lundell at 10. In the Bleacher Report mock from 10 days ago, they had these two picks switched; it had the Hawks taking Lundell at 9 and NJ taking Askarov at 10. The recent mock also had Perfetti going at 12 and Drysdale at 3 while the one from 10 days ago had Perfetti going at 4 and Drysdale at 7. How the Hawks view him compared to other top guys that could be around when the Hawks pick and looking at Hawk needs is probably anyone's guess.

If the Hawks pick high,I'm sure we see the 'best player available' as we should but as far as a 'need',I still see center as an organizational weakness. Dach is VERY promising but he has a LOT of work to do at the dot to be a legit #1 or 2 and Strome's game regressed a bit.....is there another young center worth mentioning anywhere in the system?

Changing the subject: I watched the last half of the now-famous game 6 at Boston, shown last night on NBCSports. Even though I knew the Hawks were going to win, I still seemed a bit nervous as time clicked off the clock down under two minutes. I still get a lot of joy from watching the way the Hawks came back to win that one, with most of the Bruins wondering what had just happened to them after Bolland's game-winner. Watching the Hawks win Cups will never get old for me.

Too bad about the combine being pushed back, that and the lack of CHL and other playoffs doesn’t make it easier to get a real read on these kids, even as heavily scouted as they are.

Shane Wright will be another good one year after next. Seems like generational players are coming sooner and sooner. Hahahaha. I thought I posted the same thing a solid few hours ago, but I got called for an emergency at work, I had to get someone out of an elevator. And I forgot to hit create post. But as a 15/16 year old he got 66 points in 58 games. He also wears an “A” for the Kingston Frontenacs. He’s a good player and also a scholar. So they named him Alternate Captain. As for that Bedard kid, that’s awesome for him. He had amazing numbers against the U18 kids, and he was 14. They said there may be a few more, they haven’t allowed them before and they’re thing they’ll allow more now. Good for them, if they can handle it, awesome!!!

Trapped in an elevator, that’d be a bad way to find out you’re mildly claustrophobic. As for Wright, following him led me to watching Martin Chromiak, his linemate and upcoming draftee.

I was doin 145 KM/H or 90 MPH on the 401 today to get to the woman stuck. I installed this last week and one of the magnets for the reader had moved from the travel cable hitting it. I had my buddy that’s head of the OPP down here on speed dial just in case I got pulled over. Speed limit is 100 or 60 mph. It seems like Chromiak started the year in Slovakia 🇸🇰, then made the trek over here. He did have 33 points in 28 games. So for a rookie in his first year over here, and a partial year, which has got to be super tough in a new country. Plus coming mid season is even tougher. I think you may be on to something here with this kid. I never seen him play live cuz he wasn’t in the OHL yet. But just from reading a few things on him he seems to be a good player and these are the types of kids you steal in the 2nd round. Good eye batta!!!

Good thing we’re not quite so litigious here and you have given her a story she can tell for the rest of life! As for that Kingston line, pretty good with one 16 year old and two 17 year old guys.

What are we gonna talk about? Let me see. Is there anything affecting all of us right now? Hey, joking aside, my wife and I are doing well in the state of Washington. Yesterday, we ventured out to Home Depot to purchase some "necessary" items (according to the governor). It was like going to Disneyland! I agree with you T about the Hawks rebuild. I like a lot of it, but that thing that I always struggle with is what I shall refer to as the "Kaner Tazer Syndrome." By the time the "rebuild" is completed, it won't include Kaner and Tazer in their prime and the Hawks would still lack their illustrious ways and means. Dach has promise, but has he shown what JT showed in his first year? Maybe Toews was in a different situation and was able to play a first or second line center off the bat. Dach has been shuffled around. That can be tough to overcome. Nevertheless, the jury is still out in terms of him essentially being another Tazer. Kaner? Who replaces him? He's certainly not on the roster yet. Take care my friends... Gig Just to keep hockey talk going for a wee bit longer. I think we have to look at the truth and what is more realistic. If Kane and Toews can contribute at the age of 35/36/37, let’s keep them and see what they can do. All we need is 2 solid drafts. Get 3-4 first rounders in that time, and some really high picks like 1-3, and we’ll be fine. I’m not sold yet that we have the horses on the back end yet. Jamie Drysdale is the real deal. Literally he’s the next Duncan Keith. I wouldn’t doubt if he goes number 2 over Stutzle. If Lafrenière wasn’t in this years draft, he may even go first. But it looks like he will be there at 3. I’d like to be there at 3 to get him. If not, Byfield will be there at 4, but I’m not sold on him being an elite scorer in the NHL, maybe he does, he’s still 17. However, I’ve met and kinda know Cole Perfetti. He’s as close to Kane as you’re gonna get. He’s ranked 5-6 this year. While small, the kid has game. And is tough to handle it. He’s one of the top scoring players in the CHL just behind Lafrenière. He’s got 111 points in 61 games. This is who I’m realistically targeting. If he’s there at 6 or 7, and the Hawks are higher. I’m moving up at all costs. He could be Kanes replacement one day soon. He’s the sleeper in the draft. Remember, Perfetti has done what most 18/19 year olds don’t do. This is only his second year, and he was 17/18. Even Kane’s magical year in the OHL where he got 145 in 58 games he was 18/19. So Perfetti is right on target with him. So the next wave is there. Does Stan do the right things and rebuild now so it’s not a 10-15 drought? I’m not sold on him doing the right things. Every GM that gets fired from a good team always says the “chased the dream too long”. Stan is doing the same thing. This is not a playoff team, and is not a team with cap flexibility. We need to rebuild now!!! Here’s another kid who’s rising up the ranks, just poking his nose into the first round. But wow, he should be higher. A bit small yes, but numbers like that in the Dub, pretty good. Plus that great +/-. He also strikes me as a bit of a doppelgänger to #88. Kid has a full game. www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=211436youtu.be/I29gOj8XGx4

I checked the board to see when the last game played was and I was shocked to find it's only been 3 weeks. It feels like it's been months! I don't have CSN Chicago otherwise I'd be watching the 2010 Cup run. I'd love to see those games now with 11 years experience. Stay safe, everyone!

nice to see kubs get some love. his 26 even strength goals is the 5th highest total in the league. (he's tied with sebastian aho for 7th overall) his average TOI of 14:22 is 238th (among forwards) in the league. hell....he's got 1 more even strength goal than kane and kane is 7th among forwards in TOI. (21:20) i know the guy doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell at the calder but it would be nice at least if he was included in the conversation. stan should extend this guy pronto. he hits, he can play in both ends and to say he's got a nose for the net would be a bit of an understatement.

I also have been wishing I had CSN lately, I'd be watching both the 'hawks and Bulls runs they are replaying with a great amount of joy....
on a side note about the 2010 run... my sister (who lives in Denver but gets alerts about the 'hawks on Instagram) text me earlier:
her: hockey is still happening?
me: no.
her: it says tonight. <follows with pic of the alert from Instagram>
her: /shrug
me: check the date on the bottom, dingus.
her: o..... hehe nm.
lol....

if it's any consolation, we would've played the rangers in NY tonight and our last game of the regular season would most likely be done by now and we almost certainly would have been a non-playoff team. so from this point on, we're likely not missing any blackhawk's hockey.
glad to be of help.
