Impossible I know, but I'd love to find out how much input McD had on roster decisions, trades, too many small Dmen, soft team, drafting... It's hard to say usually though I believe that the president is usually only involved in signing off on big contracts likely (Kane and Toews). That kind of thing. As far as trades and day to day go I'm betting ole SB is all about a days work on his own. Rocky may have looked and seen the direction Florida is headed with the talent they have. In doing so he has said to himself sh*t we fired the wrong guys. I hope Stan is next and he likely will be when the next President takes the helm. With Stanley out of the way they can bring in a new GM and Daniel could slide back into the VP slot on his own. At any rate it makes no sense to rid the team of McD alone. Unless he was refusing to clean house on his own or something of that nature. We all know that that Covid 19 reset gives teams lots of time to make moves especially in the front office. Rocky and Danny likely have someone in mind. That person will be left to make other changes in the F.O.

This is where I see either Cheli or Olczyk stepping in. I really don’t see the new President keeping Stan and co around. I think it’s time to look into another direction as far as scouting goes too. I think Kelley has been decent, but I think he has had an agenda too, with the smaller players etc. Stan takes the input of his scouts, probably too much cuz he just doesn’t get the game, and I think we had many powers here all tugging for all the power, and McD allowed this under his nose.
I heard that McD loved Stan cuz he himself got to call some the shots, the same for Kelley. I think it’s become clear that Stan was just in the mix. This is why Uncle Dale was tired because he didn’t want Dale to have too much power.
I also think that after the interviews with Toews and Kane after the TDL. I believe the leadership group of the Hawks players went directly to Rocky. This is where I could see a Seabrook eventually becoming part of management. A guy that has the players ears.
I’d bet McD didn’t want to fire Stan, so he went. The new guy will do just that. If Stan lasts, then the whole thing is effed right up and everything we’ve heard is stupid and the Hawks are doomed!!!

Impossible I know, but I'd love to find out how much input McD had on roster decisions, trades, too many small Dmen, soft team, drafting... There were rumors that McD had a hand in the Campbell and Huet signings and if true, the team may have needed a few signings just to show a guy like Big Hoss they were serious but again, just a rumor. I doubt he has had much if any input on moves made but that's speculation on my part.

That article pretty much explained what McDonough’s been doing for better than the last decade, making the Hawks relevant again. And he was good at it. But was he really the guy working the product on the ice? I’d rather see the Bowman/McIssac/McIver trio gone. And I’d be surprised if the Wirtz boy finds a body more worthy than himself. Looks like dad just handed him a billion dollar business. First off,I'd like to say how much I enjoyed reading the posts in this thread...…..quality hockey chatter my friends! I won't pretend that I haven't referred to the guy as 'McDbag" for the last year or so but that was entirely due to his refusal to clean house in the FO......if he even had the ability to do so. I highly doubt McD had much if any input as far as on-ice product with the exception of the major money acquisitions as someone mentioned. The guy was a sports marketing guru who wrung just about every buck he could outta the team's success,if there was a failing on his part......it was not changing a FO that's been failing for the last 2-3 years or more. I wonder who's council Rocky relied on with this decision,I suspect Scotty has his ear big time but I truly hope he sought the council of a solid hockey guy outside the organization. Prince Daniel said he looked forward in helping his father 'identify our next leader',let's hope he means it. Let's also hope Scotty didn't tell him to just put your kid in there, look how good it's worked for me!

Everybody in the FO was safe five weeks ago,we haven't played since and McD goes.....strange shit! Does Scotty have Rocky's ear to the extent that SB outlasted his boss or was Scotty the boss all along? If guys like Q and McD got an unceremonious boot then why the fuk should any job be created for SB.....SB's the F'n problem! FIRED THE WRONG GUY.....AGAIN! too early to say, imo. I think Bowman and JC are only safe until the season is officially over. once that happens, I'd say it would be more likely one or both is gone. really is odd timing, but I'll take it. I wonder what the reasoning is? money saving move? a disagreement on how things are going? we will likely never know, but I honestly hope it is hockey performance related. McCub needed to go so Bowman could go and some hockey minds could be brought in. not even worried about the coaching situation right now, cuz if Bowman is gone, JC will be carrying both of their bags to the car.... I've heard a ton of rumors from people pretending to be in the know. Honestly, my best guess is that now that the team that was handed to him on a silver platter qualifies for AARP and there was no defined succession plan; that McD was more content with the marketing image than the on-ice product (which seems to have been the feeling of how he ran the Cubs--not to win but to be constant in the public consciousness as "Lovable Losers"). I think Rocky is smart enough to know that won't work for hockey--and if McD was just riding the marketing wave and not planing on doing what it takes to improve the on-ice product...well, the defense rests. Pure speculation on my part, of course.

It’s been a longtime since I have posted here, I mentioned months ago, until this team cuts the head of the President and GM they will be spinning there wheels for years to come. McDo, thank you for your time, I am not sad to say goodbye. Now its time for Bowman and JC to go. As a fan I could not take the direction of this team anymore and stepped away, but this move puts one foot back in the door, now Wirtz and whoever, get it done and fire Stan immediately.

Danny Wirtz needs to orchestrate his one and only trade: Bowman and Colliton to Florida for Tallon and Q....that would right all the wrongs done since 2010 when Tallon first got fired. That would allow daddy and son Bowman to reunite in Florida.

I wonder where Jay Blunk fits into this, executive VP but really another marketing guy with McDonough and Cubs ties? Does he leave now as well? And how about Gerry Gallant, either as coach or G.M.? Or is he too hard assed for this club.

Don't know why they would fir McDonough and leave Bowman. Maybe the new prez will get to pick his own GM and then it is adios to Stan as GM, but he can stay as Senior VP whatever that is. Good to hear from you jack.....how ya been?

Here’s Zawaski’s take. Gotta year the whole thing. He thinks Stan is all but gone, but he did quote another guy from the Athletic whom claims it was a power struggle between Danny Wirtz and McD. Good listen!!!

How are you doing? Keeping the boards going? I honestly could not take the current direction of this team any longer, the frustration was mounting. I couldn’t even enjoy watching my team play without blowing my cool. There was notables like Kubalik that kept me at bay for sometime but that passed after the Hawks had a dreadful cross Canada trip that ended any hopes of a wildcard spot. Cleaning house is needed for this team, it wasnt that long ago the Hawks were the top of the heap, poor management and bad coaching put the Hawks were they currently are.

yeah, I expect Wirtz will end up in that role. and I don't have a problem with it. hopefully he has been paying attention to McDonough and he knows what to do (promotion and the like) and what not to do (put a bean counter in as GM cuz his dad was a great coach). I don't know that we need a prez with a ton of hockey experience as much as we need one that realizes we need a general manager that does. help me out here because i might be missing something. when stan's canned, who hires the new g.m.? rocky? daniel? blunk? our senior advisor team made up entirely of 86 year old scotty bowman? and your last sentence...how does a prez with no hockey knowledge hire a g.m. that has? not trying to be snarky here but you're basically agreeing it's okay for another bean counter to fire the current bean counter and then hire a non-bean counter that hopefully knows wtf he's doing. : ) i really think we should've had our own version of a john davidson, paul holmgren or brendan shanahan in the VP's chair ready to step in, not young daniel. edit: did a quick count of current presidents in the nhl. currently winnipeg and ottawa are without, so out of the 28 other teams 17 of them have "sports executives" or bean counters running the show and the other 11 teams have either ex-players, coaches or g.m.s in charge. so wtf do i know, but i still think those decisions should be left to the hockey people. who would fill that bill in chicago? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:NHL_team_presidentsdamn your snarkiness! they open the booze stores there yet?!? 😅 j/k my man... I would ASSume the new president will be hired by Rocky in the end, but Danny and Co will be involved in selecting one candidate and then presenting them to Rocky. as was already said, the prez should have a vision overall of what they want to accomplish as a franchise, or at least echo the owner's vision. seems to me like most, if not all, franchises will have the same vision: winning Cups on the ice and asses in the seats. pretty sure fire way to make money, there. so then, I would say that would be the job of the president. by way of McDonough, we already should have a fairly good system in place as far as fan outreach, team exposure, marketing (or the sucker's of Satan's cock as ole Mr Hicks would say), etc. what we don't have is a team winning Cups. so, whomever we hire as president would preferably be versed in both. however, I think there is also something to be said about not having too many cooks in the kitchen. so, while it would be nice to have a prez well versed in both making money and building hockey teams, I would be ok with the new prez be someone who knows enough to hire (or at least listen to those that know hockey and can advise them on whom to hire (BUT not take their word as gospel....) someone else to do the team building and get out of their way. thus the bean counter hiring a bean counter you brought up. I dunno that I would go that far with it, as that would basically be what we already had here with McCub. I would like the new prez to have at least some knowledge of hockey, but I am not as concerned about that as much as whomever it is knows enough to hire a team builder and gtfo of their way. if that rambling makes any sense, anyway....

However, if he's going through the motions because he feels he can't say no, then I'd say no. The Chili Man? I'd say no in any case. That said, I would be interested in how he would mold a team, but I think he'd be too much of a "throwback" GM kinda like that Milbury guy, only smarter.

Just wondering how everyone's doing without ANY sports whatsoever.
Please share.
Me? I don't like it, but I'm sort of getting used to it and I wonder if this wouldn't be a semi-killer of sports as we know it. Many people may have reset their priorities during these times. Sports has had the upper hand in the minds of many. Yeah, it's been almost cult-like for a myriad of folk. Take away that aspect and there won't be the "Want to" to spend ridiculous amounts of coinage for season tickets, concessions, etc. Then, throw in the "life can be cut short just like that" perspective and it can really mess with priorities. Just my take...

I watched the boys win the '10'cup again, the '13'&'15' game sevens again,Tiger win the Masters again, the Bulls win SIX again and "Last dance' is a must watch. Watched the Isle beat King Richard and the rest of those funny sweaters last night......where no bird sings, even a fart is a Meadowlark!LOL!!! Ozark....don't forget Ozark! I haven't attended a great deal of games over the past several years myself but I guarantee I'm tunin' in when sports resume. Will there be a new normal going forward? Depends who you ask as we cross the 60,000 mark!

I don’t think I’d want either as GM as they’re both raw in that position. However, if they were the President, that’d be cool. I think they had to lop the head off the top guy before they went after the rest. Can’t be caught unaware and not ready. At least for now they got the other positions covered. Now they can replace the President and let the new guy make the decision on Stan. Either way, this is a grand start. McD was a Stan apologist, and that’s were the problems started. I hope all is well out on the west coast. Good to see ya back!!!
