If someone put up a poll where you had to choose if....
A: the hawks win the cup. B: the hawks win the draft lotto.
....i'm not sure if i would come up with an answer.

A cup in the hand is worth a bunch of kids in the bush IMO. It seems this year's 'wunderkind' is as highly touted as McDavid was and McDavid has been as advertised in his defense but no cigar so far and not as close as a team with him should be either. Mathews and Eichel are also both as advertised...….all three are great players but all their team's have to show for that so far are massive cap hits...……..I will DEFINATELY take another cup over any player or prospect the game has to offer!

I would want the 1st overall. Here’s why. This Cup will go down as tainted as many players may not even play, and the ones that do probably don’t care that much. I’m reading many articles on a lot of players are thinking on sitting out. The format is terrible. I give em credit for trying, but it looks and smells like a total money grab to recoup what they’ve lost.
The first pick however will be a decade of what we once had. If Stan Bowman could be chopped off as well, then it’s a deal. I don’t see them allowing Stan to continue with the new breed. The first overall I think is better for now and moving forward!!!

A. every time A. having a shiny new face to build around would be great and could lead to success down the road. but...... another Cup, with the vets on this team leading the way and the young guys we have now stepping up in a big way to aid in the cause (and they would have to in a BIG way) would have to be my pick. not only would it be extra sweet to see Tazer and Kaner and Duncs and Crow hoist 'er one last time, but also we'd see a potentially promising future with guys like Dcat and Strome and Dach and any of the young dmen stepping up huge. that would give as much hope for future success as getting Lafreniere would. also: it's the fuckin Cup. you always pick the Cup.

LA is out.
Chicago in the top 4, but I still believe it will be Vegas and Toronto in the end, with Chicago probably being the first backup.

I scour the inter-net(to my very limited abilities) for some hockey reading or an article to link for chatter's sake almost every morning before I sign on and in all honesty,I've seen nothing about players who are thinking about sitting out. I'm sure it's just something I missed so I'd love a link for some much needed reading. How close is Mc David to a cup? Mathews? Eichel? Is this kid better?

I'd imagine that the farther north the city the better the ice'll be this time of year.So Toronto and Edmonton'd make sense imho.

I know the covid numbers are going up in Vegas, but they had a pretty good "bubble" set up I thought. works for me! I'm glad Chicago isn't one of the hubs. don't really understand letting Toronto and Edmonton play at home rather than switching the conference venues, but whatevs. also, makes sense for venues further north with this all being played in August and September...... now, I still haven't seen what they plan to do with the Finals... edit: just saw they are playing the conf finals and Finals at one location. that makes more sense. I got a dollar that says it's Toronto.

Unfortunately, I just don’t see how this thing takes off? What’s the rules for the draft if this doesn’t happen? Or have they announced that yet? I still hope we get our shot at Lafreniere!!!

If it does not take off and no more games are played one of the eight remaining non playoff teams including Chicago and Montreal etc. would be given a shot at number one. The other seven teams based on reverse order would draft 9-15. The 16 playoff teams based on reverse order would start drafting at 16th.

I think that the smart thing to do is shitcan the season and hope to start anew in Oct on time. but, them dollar signs are gonna lead to some sort of shitshow playoff happening.

YEAH!!!

The good ol US of A just seems to be heading in a horrible direction with this thing. Much worse than any other country, and this may be worse than it was before. I have a couple vacations planned that are more than likely done. And both are “non refundable”. We’re hoping to be able to reschedule at a minimum.
So I really don’t see the NHL or any other league taking off any time soon. The worst may get to come with this thing. Especially when the health officials are saying that the numbers are probably 10x higher than they are. So I think things just won’t pan out.
Good news is that Ontario has less than 800 cases a week. And this past week there was an outbreak at a farm that has foreign workers and they’re all contained in one area. The other area is nursing homes, they’ve had it bad too. Ontario has 11 million people, and we’re averaging less than 200 per day, and they’re mostly all contained. They’re testing a lot of people now too. So it looks to be contained here.
Our borders are shut down with the USA. Doesn’t look promising anytime soon. If they did allow in NHL players that have been in the USA, they would have to quarantine for 14 days. So I just don’t see how this thing ever gets going!!!

can't read the article but likely don't need to anyways. It appears that "multiple" is all we'll get. Below was in thescore.com. Things don't seem to be going in the right direction. "Under Phase 2 of the NHL's return-to-play plan, players were permitted to begin working out in small groups at team facilities starting June 8, but the Blues waited until June 22. The Tampa Bay Lightning were forced to shutter their training facility June 19 after three players tested positive. The venue was cleaned and re-opened five days later. Fifteen of the 250 players who reported to training facilities for Phase 2 tested positive for the virus as of Monday. Another 11 players who did not report for voluntary workouts have also tested positive since the start of Phase 2. Phase 3 of the NHL's return plan, which signifies the start of training camp, is set to begin July 10. However, the players have not yet voted to approve Phase 3 and Phase 4." Edit: Sorry GT; I had forgotten you posted something very similar to the above just a few days ago. I blame the 100 degree heat here for sapping my memory.

I hope things work out over in the States. I feel bad for the ones doing the heavy lifting and the others are pissing it all away. We’ve been pretty good here. A vast majority of people followed everything to a tee. Our numbers dropped off significantly and it was no longer a public health disaster. We still have orders to wear a mask in public buildings and to sanitize our hands. If wearing a mask in public is what it takes to totally crush this thing, count me in. It’s not like they’re drafting you to war, the public these days is totally stubborn and not s more worried about themselves and not the ones around them. I seen a few people at the grocery store today that just wouldn’t wear a mask. Some good people let em have it, and rightfully so. I wish you fine folk in the states the best of luck with this. I have a trip to Virginia and one up in Michigan planned. I doubt they’re happening now. But that’s nothing compared to the health and welfare of the good people there. Happy 4th!!!
