I'm betting you're right; with numbers going up and a number of states setting single day records for new cases fairly often, it's going to be a long time before anything improves. If we do see CGI fans, I wonder how many they will have wearing jerseys to look like a real crowd. basically, we are getting a combination of nhl20 and live action hockey..... I'd rather play a video game. the 'hawks would win the Cup for sure then! I read a commentary article yesterday about fake fans and fake crowd noise in baseball telecasts. Fox Sports said they were going to put CGI fans in the stands in games Fox will televise. They said these "electronic people", as they called them, would even be able to high five each other and do the wave. Doesn't it give you goosebumps imagining watching a Blackhawk game and seeing electronic Hawk fans do the wave?

IT WON'T GO AWAY TILL WE START TAKING IT SERIOUSLY , here in the Atlantic provinces, we were told to wear a mask since march the 1st, and we haven't had a case in two or three weeks weeks , so it can be done , the States don't seem to care about other people , they are still fighting wearing a mask , I don't think this is a good idea, should have waited for next year but , who am I to decide that, I think this is just a money grab, wonder how Boston feels with no Pasternak, and their could be others as well , that drop out all it takes is a few super stars on the top teams to opt out and then it's wide open Somewhere around 1/3 of the US either won't mask up or will only when forced too and nearly the same percentage say they'll forego the vaccine.........we could be in for a long road with this. I wondered what could happen if a natural disaster piggy-backed on top of our world leading pandemic and now were about to see with Hannah barreling down on south Texas where they already have refrigerated trailers full of dead Texans.

I haven't seen it anywhere yet, does anyone know if there will be radio coverage of the games? weideman was on today's scrimmage and troy murray on previous scrimmages. both referred to the challenges facing them calling the play by play from a monitor vs live. so, yep. idk about the blue's game but i'd likely say yep again.

I didn't get a chance to see/hear the scrimmages, but man the difference is huge between watching a monitor and being able to see the whole ice and benches at all times.

no doubt. the league will have an extra 12 cameras doing all these games. maybe they can pipe a different feed to the announcers that will make it more natural for them to announce? idk. from fans to players to announcers to trainers to coaches. there isn't a one of them that isn't going to have to adapt in a major way here.

Important question will be how will Pat Foley get any of Diana Olczyk's cookies?

Worse thing the Hawks did was eliminate the simulcast of TV and radio. Pat, when he knew he had to describe the action for the radio crowd, was at his best. But once he came back and Wiedeman was established on the radio, there was no way they'd go back to simulcast. Unfortunately because of it Pat's game has suffered severely. He's still one of the best in the game as well as a deserved HOF announcer, and actually calls a better game when Olczyk isn't on with him. But together they goof around more then they should, sometimes neglecting the play of the ice to discuss soft serve, cookies, etc. And Olczyk is much better on the national broadcasts because he sticks to the game call and not the foolishness he and Pat get into.

Perfectly stated. The golden years were when Pat was with DT doing simulcasts.

that fake crowd noise is gonna annoy me, i have a feeling.... i just watched half a period of the leafs/canadiens exhibition game. no crowd noise, the had all the empty seats tarped over and you know what? i was used to it all in about 4 seconds. the players voices on the ice weren't overly loud either. so....jmo, but i hope they leave the canned fan noise out because i'm of the opinion that it isn't needed at all. anyways....oil/flames tilt just starting now if anyone wants a look. bilasport.net/game/calgary-flames-vs-edmonton-oilers-1.htmlhopefully multiple bench clearers, suspensions and broken bones.

Will Kassian concuss Boqvist by game 2 or 3? this is tonight's exhibition game. funny thing is that gus got the only penalty. 2 minutes for playing without a helmet. first time i've seen that one called.

I didn’t catch the battle of Alberta. I did catch a wee bit of the Leaves/Habs. I though the game sucked. Not due to anything that Covid has caused. Just the game literally looked boring, and mostly a game of Shinny. I hope those two teams put forth better efforts than that. There was barely any hitting, I think Muzzin was the only guy to throw a hit. The Habs pp was disastrous. I think the Habs are really looking to bow out for the 1st overall. I know it’s one game, but I won’t be watching much more of that!!!

I heard some crowd noise on the Sportsnet feed for the Leaves game. My son said he definitely heard a loud FCUK. But that doesn’t bother me. Is the horn just on tv or is it actually the goal horn in the arena? Cuz I’d have to think that without fans fatty bodies to absorb sound, that goal horn would be terribly loud in there. The game itself didn’t bother me without fans etc. I just didn’t like the type of play that I seen. I’m sure there’ll be better games. I think we may see some teams bow out early due to just looking bad...... like the Habs!!!

I And Boom! There goes DeHaan’s rebuilt shoulder or Boqvist’s noggin. Boys better keep their heads up. A Kassian type is one thing we just don’t have. The Blues might just be the right team to get the Hawks in the right frame of mind for Edmonton.

I did hear music and normal noise in the background but i didnt think i heard crowd noise. Anyhoo...along with the eyesight and memory, my hearing's pretty much shot as well so wtf do i know?

I heard some to during the EDM game. Plus, like GT said there is the music and some other background noise that makes the lack of fans less noticeable. I wonder if the covering over the seats has something to do with it being used as a background for the fake fans CGI they are planning.

The bit of crowd noise didn’t bother me. At this point, they could put white noise machines going in the background and it doesn’t matter. It would be cool if they had crowd noises from each teams home arena. It would save money on doing it with Arizona and Florida’s. As there wouldn’t be much! Unfortunately, this first round looks to be an entertainment nightmare. I’m sure it’ll get better in other rounds. But I’d have to think the teams coming out of this first round have the upper hand in this thing. The games now aren’t very good, so the teams that get some reps in should be the ones to look out for!!!
