I grew up in Nothern Alberta, Fort McMurray 21yrs, and there's 2 reserves close by and I knew a lot of natives, I've also lived in Edmonton for almost 20yrs and there is lots of natives here as well. Unfortunately a lot of them fit the stereotype of being alcoholics, abusive, and even homeless, but many generations of being forced into schools to conform will do that. Some of my best friends and old hockey teammates are native and great people and I don't know one native who's offended by the Blackhawks name and logo. And I'm not 100% native but my great great grandfather was Chief Matty Mitchell, I'm very proud of my native heritage and I love the Hawks logo and name. I'm glad Chicago made that statement and they aren't changing their name/logo. As for the Redskins, yeah that's offensive and I haven't met a native who likes it. Rocky took care of this in '06 after Bill died and had meetings with the Sauk tribe over this issue and the Sauk tribe was in favor of the Black Hawks keeping the name and symbol of their greatest warrior. Also the Navajo in New mexico polled 9 of 10 loved the Redskins logo, but too many white liberals have to speak for everyone. I'm a white liberal and I don't fuckin speak for nobody but me but I do speak. Native Americans hated that fuckin name but white nationalist don't care what anyone but other white nationalists think. At last we know what all the white men think on this subject and what else really matters.....not for much longer! |

don't test me boy.....or i'll ban your sorry ass again! haha....idk wtf i did. i banned some blue pill peddler who had 3 posts in the hawks/yotes game near the bottom of page 1 of the GDTs section. and i did a bit of moving things around like this thread and i had to move each post separately and that included some of yours. and i moved gig's "last dance" thread over to the "other sports" topic. i was prouder than a peacock of myself and thinking to myself i was some kind of future sports media magnate, and then big-t brought my world crashing down. i mean i literally felt sick. i'll have to get back with t-man to see what he did to fix it, but i'm truly sorry for the trouble i put you through and i was truly relieved to see you back on the boards. i hope nobody else here has gone jimmy hoffa. |

Merp had his challenges with BIB who banned him for a while. BigT and I fought to get him back and eventually BIB lifted the ban. I'm not sure about how much he was on towards the end. But I sure miss his input along with several others. Always fun to have more comments and points of views. This board is great and keeps the old boards alive (big shoutout to T-Man) Maybe one day they will all rise again and add their voices to this site.

the last time i recall him being on these boards was (i believe) the SC finals GDT last year. him and angoti got into it, it turned political and BitB (i presume) deleted a lot of the back and forth posts between the two. so maybe that pissed him off and he said fuggit. who knows. but i'm pretty sure that was his last time on the old boards. |

Maybe but probably not, I was born in Cornerbrook Newfoundland, like Keith Brown 😁, but we moved to Fort McMurray when I was 8mnths old. I've only seen some Telus Cups on TV and they're fun to watch, never seen Mitchell but if he stood out at 15 playing Midget AAA and you think he's a fantastic talent, sounds good to me. He'll look good with the Hawks logo on, and not an indian head, natives aren't from India lol |

If it parlays to the NHL, it’ll be great. My only concern is that he stayed the extra year in college which can really damper his development. I really believe a year or two in the farm would have been excellent for him. Very very very rarely do we see 21 or 22 year olds make the jump from college to NHL. At that age they need to play against top competition and not stay playing against worse and worse competition. And before someone jumps down my throat about me not liking the NCAA route. What that means is simply this. The competition gets worse in the NCAA as you get older. As you were the top young talent, and now you’re the elder top talent. So the league didn’t get tougher for you, it plateau’d and now you didn’t develop further like you would have against better competition in the AHL. I hope he’s just that good And he’s an exception to the rule. I believe he could be!!! |
