BU cancelled their opener Saturday night and won't resume till Jan 8th,they only mentioned one positive test but that might change. Instead of quarantining, should these kids just travel around and be near other kids. We don't know who made this decision and it could easily be team USA,did Michigan hold players out due to the virus? How could the three BU players have joined a camp that started over the weekend if they're under quarantine? First off. They’re not letting them go at all. The tourney isn’t for another bit. So they could still make it. And if they tested negative, they could be there quite soon. Again, not much info is out there if the schools or the national teams made the decisions. All I’m saying is the decision should be left in the hands of the kid and his family. I’m sure USA hockey isn’t a dump, they care greatly for the kids. I’m sure you know that. Ya, anything can happen. Like it did in team Canada. So I’m not condoning unsafe behaviour, I just think if those teams are shit down anyways, why not let the kid get tested and if negative, go have the experience of a lifetime? That’s all I’m saying!!! Leaving things in the hands of kids and their families is what happened over Yanksgiving and will probably happen again over Christmas. There's gotta be a good reason BU shut down for over a month, the CDC lowered their quarantine guidelines to 10 days with a negative test after exposure and 10 days would have resulted in the BU players missing the USA camp.....no?

I'm sure you're right,I'm not following this stuff as closely as I used to.

^^ What's really a shame is of the Hawk prospects that will now miss the wjc's, one was their most recent first round pick and two of them were their last two second rounders; guys the Hawks have high hopes for. Commesso and Vlasic now won't even play their first game of the season until Jan. 8, at the earliest. I read Reichel's league was postponed until the second half of Dec. at the earliest.

sounds like dominic basse impressed in his first college start. Cool. It's easy to lose track of those late round selections. The name rang a bell but I had to look it up - 6th rounder in the 2019 draft. Played in the USHL last season.

Hawk pick Slavin gets his first and another Hawk connection is former Blackhawk assistant Mike Haviland coaching.

er, you're right; guys picked that late usually get overlooked and are seldom talked about in discussions of a teams' prospects. Maybe late round G's are a little different than late round skaters in their odds of success? Let's hope GT is right; at 19 and 18, Basse and Commesso are currently the Hawks only young prospects. The others are all 25-26 yrs. old.

If I was reading and deciphering correctly, Reichel's German League started it's season a few days ago. Reichel's team has played their opener and won 3-2, no goals or assists from Reichel. They play again today.

Nice to see Teply was added to the Czechs WJ team. He hasn’t played much this year as a loaner so it’s good to see him get to follow up his good showing last year.

You're right; Reichel had to miss the wjc's due to a positive Covid test. I think that was reported on Dec. 8, so if he had to quarantine for two weeks, he would have missed his team's opener plus todays game. You would also think two weeks is enough time to make a change to their wjc lineup.
edit: I did find his team said on Dec. 8 he was in a two week quarantine so he should be eligible tomorrow to start playing.

If there's no clear path to the NHL with the other goalies we now have, there never will be.

I remember a short discussion on the old board last year about Nalimov and him apparently being unhappy with the Hawks. It sounds like things haven't changed.
Does Nalimov not realize that as long as he stays in Russia and doesn't sign with the Blackhawks, the Hawks aren't going to sit back and wait on him. They're going to continue to try and strengthen the G position by drafting/signing/acquiring other G's/G prospects to get better in net.
In anyone's guess, what does Nalimov think a "clear path to the NHL" should be? Is it a starter that's either close to retirement age or isn't really all that good of a starter, with not much competition to become a backup, then he takes over as the starter? Or does he want assurances he'll be in Chicago if he signs?
I would say Nalimov's first order of business is twofold: the first is sign with the Hawks and get over to NA. He's 26. The second, and much harder part, is prove you're an NHL caliber goalie. If he can't accomplish that part, his "clear path" would be all for naught.

With the 'taxi squad' factor more than likely keeping all three rostered tenders with the big club all year,Nailmov coulda went to Rockford and been the Big man on campus if he has the goods but it seems he's unwilling to play a season in the 'A'.

Nalimov seems like the prototypical enigmatic Russian to me. Not so different than the Shalunov drama we've watched the last several years. More drama than they're worth IMO.

Here is Basse's season so far.
22 Dominic Basse 6 gp, 352:53mins. 13 ga, 2.21 gaa, 139 saves, .914 sp 2-2-1 w-l-t
From what I read, the other G, Matt Vernon, was the returning starter and naturally was expected to be the starter this season also. That would be normal since they didn't know what to expect from Basse. Vernon had a 3.43 gaa and a .901 sp last year.
However Basse is the starter. Vernon has played in 3 games to Basse's 6 and Basse has much better stats than Vernon. Vernon's numbers so far in 3 games are 11 ga, 63 saves, 4.77 gaa and a .854 sp.

I had high hopes for Makarov. Me and my wife met him way back when they played at The Edge in Bensonville. I remember Ruutu being picked up by the cops in a case of mistaken identity near there too.
The good ol' days.

i remember the name but just barely. i think just because there was a sergei makarov that had success in the nhl. igor's dad was named sergei and he played hockey in russia but it's a different guy. anyways....1 unremarkable season in rockford (11g, 13a in 68 games) and an unremarkable KHL career (72g, 74a in 469 games). at least he has his own wiki page. : )
