i'll bet. that would've been cool. was it free for anyone to watch back in them days? It was, and it still wasn't crowded. And you could talk to the players in the parking lot too (not in a stalking way). Very accessible.

I had high hopes for Makarov. Me and my wife met him way back when they played at The Edge in Bensonville. I remember Ruutu being picked up by the cops in a case of mistaken identity near there too.
The good ol' days.
I LOVED the 'edge' days Taterman, easy drive for me and I could hit the golf dome down the street on my way home. Me and a buddy who's a big sports collector were outside after a practice when guys would sign and I believe it was Kane's 2nd year,Kane walked past a kid lookin' for his autograph and my buddy surprised the hell outta me when he walked right up to Kane and said "listen young man, you're gonna be a superstar and you'll regret not signing for young fans.....it's not a good look".......Kane went back and signed for the kid......swear to God!

Kane became better at it but access to players pretty much went away when they switched to 'Johnny's',some of the kids would hang around after prospect camp years back but they hustle em onto busses these days........or at least they did....haven't been to the last few. All the best too you and yours too 'Pizza man'!

Was great times, Bob. Just quick drive for me from work during lunch, stopping by at subway in des Plaines, and then eating it while watching them practicing. That's where I saw Kane first time. Happy New Year, everyone!

We're in good company as far as our future goes. Looks like these teams are as bad off as the Hawks or will be soon.

Got to remember many of those teams also made trades to bolster a playoff run themselves. And now they have trying to dump salary like the Hawks so you have to sweeten the pot with picks and prospects.

I just didn't think they had moved that many prospects to drop, but I am not paying that much attention to them either.

Since Boston U. has started their season, I decided to look up and see if Drew Commesso has played. BU has played two games so far and Commesso has played in both games; one full game and 48 minutes in the other. He probably feels like he's been in a shooting gallery.
His stats are 2 GP, 5.57 GAA, .875 SP. He's given up 10 goals in the 108 minutes, on 80 shots. BU lost their first game to Providence 7-3; Prov. had 54 shots on goal, 24 in the 2nd period alone. Commesso gave up 6 goals on 38 shots but I couldn't tell whether Commesso or the other goalie started. The other G gave up 1 goal on 10 shots in just over 12 mins.

To add a bit more.
Dominic Basse: 9 GP, 2.67 GAA, .899 SV%. he's given up 23 g's on 227 shots.
I would say Basse is the #1 goalie; he's started 9 games to the other G's 5 gms. and Basse has much better stats. It appears Basse and the other G aren't getting much support; so far CC has scored 24 goals in 12 games. CC's leading point getter is 7th rounder Josiah Slavin. 12 gp, 3 g's and 6 a's. He leads the Tigers in assists, so far.
Lukas Reichel has 1 g and 1 a in 6 games.

Some good play from Commesso lately. He's still playing in a shooting gallery.
On Sun., BU beat UMass 4-2. Commesso faced 35 shots and only gave up 2 g's. .943 SV%. BU only got 17 shots on the UMass goalie. Yesterday the 18th, BU beat UMass 4-3 in OT. Commesso faced 47 shots and gave up 3 g's. .936 SV%.

Update on Lucas Reichel. He started out slowly (I think he started on the 3rd line). Only had 1 goal and 1 assist through the first 6 games. Then he got a goal last game and today he got 1 goal and 3 assists for a total of 7 points in 8 games. He is now centering the 2nd line. Looking at the roster of his team (DEL - Eisbaren Berlin) - he is by far the youngest player at only 18. Of the players who are regularly in the lineup, one player is 3 years older than him and the rest range in age from 24 to 35. He's a kid playing with men and so far holding his own quite nicely.

Thanks for the update, glad to hear he's getting more ice time and producing after a slow start. To bad he couldn't play for Germany at the World Juniors, he might've helped Germany beat Russia.

er, thanks for the update on Reichel. Let's hope he continues to improve. I was thinking his youngish age in a men's league was one thing the Hawks liked about him.
An update on Basse. CC has played 16 games so far. GP -12 (695 mins.); 3.02 GAA. he's allowed 35 g's on 325 shots. .892 SV%
Basse isn't playing in a shooting gallery like Commesso but his team really struggles to score goals. CC has scored 29 goals in 16 games; 1.8 g's per game. They average 27.2 shots per game. Not surprisingly, Basse's record is 3-7-1.

Seems like barely enough to ice a team. Still, looking forward to this Icehogs year, lots of new faces but it’s probably not going to be pretty.

Commesso is still playing well, but it should come with a disclaimer. Boston U. played two games against Maine who lost both games and are now 2-7-1. Maine has scored 2.8 goals per game and have allowed 4.3 g's per game.
Gm. 1 was a 3-2 BU win in OT; Commesso gave up 2 g's on 25 shots, .920 SV% Gm. 2 was a 5-1 BU win; DC gave up 1 goal on 31 shots, .967 SV% For the two games; 53 saves on 56 shots, .946 SV%
Maine may not have been a very good team but Commesso is still only 18 and in his first year at BU, so it was still good to see him play well.

I liked the Vlasic pick. I’d like to see more size taken in future drafts. Not necessarily 6’6” big, but it is welcomed if he blossoms into something of use. I’d like to see another 2-3 big dmen in the system or drafted in the next couple years. With Keith getting long in the tooth, and that’s being polite. I think Beaudin is gonna be a Keith type player. I’d like to see us get a solid pick this year and add Power. It’d be nice to have Power 6’5”, Vlasic 6’6”, Zadorov 6’6”, Murphy 6’4”, Beaudin 5’11”, Mitchell 5’11”. Keith 6’1”. That would be nice to give the smaller guys some space to play and dominate. I’d feel better with that type of size heading into a playoff round. Now to just get a power forward type player. A guy 6’2” or bigger to really run havoc on the opposition!!!

I believe the lightning had Avery huge defense last year. And St Louis the year before. Maybe we don’t need that much size. But it can’t hurt!!!

I think these stats may be pretty much up to date.
The season so far:
Reichel - 17 GP, 6 g's, 8 a's. - Reichel appears to be getting some power play time; a couple of his goals and one of his assists were shown as "power play".
Basse - 16 GP, 2.99 GAA, .900 SP. - his team remains offensively challenged; they've scored 34 goals in 20 games.
Commesso - 6 GP, 3.08 GAA, .917 SP. - he's faced 218 shots in 6 gms. - 36 per game.
Nice to see Vlasic put up some points.

Here's an update for Reichel and Commesso.
Reichel has 6 g's and 11 a's in 20 games. Two goals and three assists came on the power play. If I read correctly, Reichel won't turn 19 until mid May; born in 2002.
Commesso now has 8 GP, 2.75 GAA, .923 SP. He faced 55 shots in the last two games and gave up only 3 goals.
