2g-1a and +3, won 9 of 17 faceoffs. This kid is one of my favorite prospects.

The big guy has good hands, gets shots off no matter what position he's in, that's how he got an assist in the previous game, backhander in front.

I just finished watching Lardis get a hattrick and a beauty short area pass for an assist in Brantford’s 5-1 victory. Besides the 4 point night – he made several outstanding plays using his speed to backcheck and break up opponent scoring chances. There is speed and then there is effective speed – Lardis does everything at high speed – his thinking, his passing and he gets his shot off in a blink. It’s going to be fun to watch him put up big numbers this season, especially when Vaanacker returns to the lineup and maybe we’ll get to see them play together.

It's impressive how Lardis can score many different ways and gets his shots off fast.
I noticed HockeyDB updated his weight, says he's 185lbs now, 20lbs since his draft. He said he was in the mid 180s yet most sites still say he's in the 160s.

I never know what to believe with height and weight except when they measured at the NHL Prospect Combine. In June of 2023 - Lardis was measured at 5'11" / 168 lbs. Is he up to 185? I don't know. I'd be surprised is he hasn't gained weight. Whether he's 175/180/185 - I can tell you one thing - he hasn't lost any speed from last season - if anything he's faster. He's noticeably faster than everyone else on the ice.

He looked noticeably bigger at the prospects camp this year than last, and if he says he's in the mid 180s then DB changed it to 185lbs, I'm going to believe he's around that weight now. Plus the Bulldogs site says 185lbs It's always a bonus when someone doesn't lose speed when they gain weight, even better when they're faster.

I'm sure we've all read of some players that can't make plays at high speed. I remember a report of some player years ago that said he was a great skater until he had to handle the puck.

That's what I like about KDs picks, Nazar, Moore, and Lardis are known for their speed but they can also play at a high level.

Ken Yaremchuck back in the day, could skate 200' really fast but hands of stone and little or no hockey sense. Stalberg, Skille, speed is great but not if the hands can't keep up. That's what I like about KDs picks, Nazar, Moore, and Lardis are known for their speed but they can also play at a high level. All honesty, I was ecstatic when the Hawks picked Yaremchuk. I saw him play AJHL Junior A in my home town, 112 points in 59 games and RoY in the league. The Traders were a feeder for Portland back then and Yaremchuk piled up 424 points in 210 games, made the all star teams a couple of times. Even for the high flying ‘80’s those are good numbers. I don’t know why he had limited success but he could play the game. It’s possible that like Reichel in the current situation, if you can’t bust into the top six and you’re not really geared for a bottom of the lineup spot you’re stuck in limbo. There wasn’t much chance he was going to play over Savard, Larmer, Olcyk, Secord, Murray, Fraser et al, and since he was a compensation loss at age 22 for the Nylund signing….so much for that. I was part of a conversation with him later in life, he had carved out a nice little career in Europe, played some hockey with the National team, didn’t seem bitter. Interesting that both he and Skille went 7th overall. Let’s hope the latest 7th, Korchinski, carves out a nice long career like another 7th pick defenseman, your cousin Keith, who btw, I also saw with the Traders.

Yep - and he has those 7 goals (and 3 assists) in his first 5 games. He had 2 other dazzling plays that were very close to goals - one off the knob of the goalie's stick and another off the iron. I'm not sure Brantford is going to be one of the top OHL teams because they don't have a great defense so they'll spend a lot of time chasing the puck in the d-zone against top teams - which will limit their offensive production - but Lardis has a very good center (Patrick Thomas - 2023 4th round Washington pick) who knows how to get him the puck in good shooting position so I'm pretty sure Lardis will still score a bunch regardless how well the team is doing. Right now the LW on that line is Calvin Crombie (2024 undrafted) who is decent but I have visions of Vanacker joining Lardis and Thomas on that line when he gets back from injury - that would be a very good line.

Lardis' goals start at :22 and 2:07. These weren't his usual type of goal, at least from what I remember about past goals. Both were very close in. chl.ca/ohl/gamecentre/27367/

Both were very close in. chl.ca/ohl/gamecentre/27367/True, most of his goals are from farther out - usually one-timers and wrist shots from the right side and middle slot - but he has the hands to score in close traffic too as demonstrated on these 2 goals. He's a volume shooter and he gets a lot of shots off because (1) he instinctually gets in position to shoot and (2) gets his shot off very quickly.

He can score so many different ways, as you know, but when he's not getting open around the slot or right side he goes hard to the net for rebounds.

Stjernborg has 1g-3a in his last 5gms and a +4. Hopefully he comes over next year, there's a reason he was a captain at the World Juniors, the guy is like a tank and works his ass off every shift.
