^^ I agree; the Hawks need high picks and not a bunch of later round picks. I know I've said before, and as negative as it sounds, the Hawks need another lottery pick. I agree that's about the only way to get potential difference makers that teams need to win Cups. You do need for them to develop but the odds are much better than with late rounders.
The question is how can Stan acquire another first rounder? At the very least I'd like to see Stan acquire a 2nd. rd. pick since the Hawks are minus their own 2nd rounder. I'm not sure what this year's Gus could bring.

It wasn't all that long ago when I touted just about every prospect too but I've been burned so many times lately,I'v lost my enthusiasm. To those who still have it I have one question...….. Can the big club expect some NHL caliber help from it's prospect pool and when? Are there better forwards in the system than Highmore,Sikura and Wedin…...that's what I've seen so far. Top end guys? Probably not. Although I still think Kurashev has some latent talent to show off. He went through three years with a sub par Remparts team yet led them in scoring twice, once as a sixteen year old, and second the other season. He had a nice WJC and didn’t embarrass himself playing with the grownups at the World Cup. Hell, he even put a shot through Rask in the preseason when Rockford played the Bruins. He is starting to score at the pro level now as well. I’d like to see him playing with better players for a stretch. Quenneville is another guy deserving a shot with the Hawks before the season is over now that he’s healthy. I’m also hoping Michal Teply playing on home ice for the Worlds has a great tourney, we could use a late round surprise. But like Big T said, we need some top first round guys to really turn this around. There might only be some future complimentary pieces coming. I agree, there may be a couple nhl players there, but nothing that can’t be replaced. I for one would like to see some of these kids actually and the nhl. We don’t even get 3-4 liners out of our picks. Stan then turns to the Euro leagues to see if he can conjure up a pro player that can contribute. But they seem to need seasoning and are 25/26, so there’s no use wasting time on them. No other team in the league has had these problems. I know many just turn a blind eye and hope that Stan will pull through just one time. The Hawks draft nothing but the same type. They’re always looking for the next Johnny Hockey or the next higher end skill guy. But they strike out, rinse and repeat. Ya they’ve hit with Dcat, but I believe it’s impossible to completely strike when you have 7 picks a year. But we’re not looking to bat .100, we’re looking to bat .200 at a minimum. Right now we’re batting at the “Sikura” line, and we need to be at the “Mendoza” line. Out of our 7 picks a year. We need to hit with 2 of our picks whether it’s a 2nd and a 4th rounder or a 1st and a 6th. We need to get our picks playing on our team. The other day I was listening to Roenick on Spittin Chiclitts, he talked a bit about the Hawks are his team cuz they drafted him. He said he wished that he treated Dollar Bill better and he stayed. He said it was 50/50 fault, but he should a been the bigger man and just kept his mouth shut. My point is that players tend to have more love for the team that drafted them. Moving on is ok, but coming up with a group of guys is down right awesome and we need to build that chemistry up again. Something we lack horribly today!!!

Shaw should at least get us a 2nd. It sucks to see them go, but it’s just not working, time to move on. I’d also like to see if we could get a desperate team to feed us a late first or a 2nd for Maatta, I feel we could get a first for Maatta and a prospect like Sikura or something Ike that. We could potentially have 3-4 first rounders. Colorado did this a couple years back and now they’re the team to be or beat now!!!

Maybe they should look into the beer leagues around town.

It makes me wonder how much discussion, if any, went on between Stan and Kayumov before he signed the KHL extension. IF Kayumov does eventually come over he'll be 24, which doesn't leave much time for any minor league seasoning if he needs it. Kubalik is 24 and has been with the Hawks all season but I don't know how the Czech leagues compare to the KHL. All we can hope for now is Kayumov continues to develop and wants to join the Hawks in a couple of years. He does have the offensive skill and skating ability the Hawks could use.

Was Vlasic invited to team USA's camp? I don’t think so to tell the truth although the US likes their NCAA picks, only one player from the CHL I believe. . After Saarela and Teply all we can watch for in the WJC are our future upcoming picks.

Dach and Boqvist should be there, the Hawks are so poorly managed it's sad how Rocky is just sitting there doing nothing. Only 2 fourth rounders playing at the World Juniors is pathetic and it's been like that for a while.

I’m guess the way to look at it is to watch for the next future Hawk, Lafreniere, Byfield, Drysdale, Raymond, Stutzle, or Askarov if we need a goalie. But yeah, pretty sad overall. Although I do remember having five or so picks on Canada alone and I’m not sure any made it to the show. Nothing is for sure.

They had Mitchell and Entwistle last year and I think McNeil and Danault were the last pair of Hawks prospects to play for Canada. So 5 would be going back a ways.

I bet Dach is bummed out that he is stuck in this dumpster fire instead of with Team Canada. I’d bet he’s happier in the NHL making money and hanging with guys he idolizes. That’s not to say he wouldn’t enjoy himself there, but I’d have to think he’d wanna stay. Now, he’s 18 and clearly doesn’t know what the best thing is for him. That’s on the org, they should have sent him, it would be amazing for his development!!!

Anyone watch the Spengler game? Canada won 4-1 and Ian Mitchell had one assist. Tompkins didn’t play but ex-Hawks Versteeg and DeDomenico were playing. Decent hockey. I imagine scouts are there scouting euro free agents.

^^ It was a nice play by Mitchell. I hope he was thinking in his mind how he can't wait to do things like this for the Blackhawks. I know a little but not much about the Spengler Cup; what is the caliber of the teams that take part? I thought some of the players were older players. With NCAA hockey on it's winter break, I hope the competition is decent enough to be of benefit to Mitchell.

^^ I'm afraid a light bulb is going to light up in some NHL marketing person's head; we all know how money talks. Imagine Toews and Saad heading for the net on a two on one with AT&T or Verizon plastered all over the lower part of the back of their jersey and Wells Fargo on the side of their pants.

It’s mainly Euro club teams but as those leagues are all more highly rated than the NCAA it can be a good experience for a guy like Mitchell. You’re right about it being older players, there’s a lot of euro picks that gave up the NHL dream and went home and such. Kubalik’s old team is there this year and he was the MVP of the Swiss league so I guess that will tell you the quality.

I happened to see this on Rotoworld.
Michal Teply registered three assists in the Czech Republic's 4-3 win against Team Russia in the 2020 World Juniors.

I don't know how things work with teams and unsigned prospects but I wonder if the Hawks could have had a hand in Mitchell playing in the tournament or if Mitchell did it all on his own.
