That Arena in Davos is beautiful. Nice to see Tomkins having a breakout season, putting up good numbers for the Hogs and now with a win in international play. Bonus he was drafted by the Hawks.

It’s mainly Euro club teams but as those leagues are all more highly rated than the NCAA it can be a good experience for a guy like Mitchell. You’re right about it being older players, there’s a lot of euro picks that gave up the NHL dream and went home and such. Kubalik’s old team is there this year and he was the MVP of the Swiss league so I guess that will tell you the quality. All the Euro leagues are more highly rated than the NCAA? Who says? thehockeywriters.com/top-10-best-ice-hockey-leagues/ This is the site I used. It’s all pretty subjective and I’m sure you could find some site to disagree. Take it for what it’s worth.

I turned on the Spengler Cup to watch a bit before work and Ian Mitchell scored a really nice goal.
The announcers were raving about him and said he had a beautiful assist in another game.

I still wish our top D prospects had bigger/beefier frames but if you're good enough...you're good enough and Gilbert's arrival helps a lot in that department.

They do have some bigger, beefier ones but time will tell if they develop. Moberg 6'-3" 187, 19yrs. Regula 6'-4" 208, 19 yrs Vlasic 6'-6" 199 18 yrs Those are the younger ones. There are a couple others we've had like Tuulola that hasn't really developed.

^^ It's nice to see good comments about Mitchell. I've wondered if he may be a little better prospect than Beaudin. I base this on both being similar type players but from what I've read about the two from the same site, Mitchell is a much better skater. I hope they both turn out because them and Boqvist are the only offensive D prospects for the future. Can Regula be included?
I think I was wrong about Beaudin getting his first goal just recently; I think it was his second since he's shown with two goals now. He went quite a while with no goals so I hope it's a sign he's making progress.

Per the old board for Prospects, for the past week, I assume; Ian Mitchell was the first star with 1g & 3a's in 2 games. He has 4g's & 14a's for the season. Teply was the second star with 4a's in 2 games. Brandon Hagel was the third star with 2g's & 1a in 3 games. It said he now leads the Icehogs in goals with 13.

That was a great goal by Mitchell. He looked like a forward making that play.

lol..... byline of the article says he is uncommitted to signing an NHL contract after his college season ends and the first damn paragraph says his plan is still to sign with the 'hawks as soon as it is over..... no.....it says he's committed, unless i'm totally missing the plot here.

His stats are improving since the worlds, 18-23 for 41 in 36 games. He’s got a -12 +/- though which sticks out on that team a bit. I wonder if Peyton Krebs is his center? That wouldn’t hurt playing with the #17pick last year, who might have gone higher if it weren’t for his injury.

Like all drafts we have pretty high hopes. Dach looks to be worthy of his draft position, but if Vlasic and Teply both become contributors down the road it’ll be the best draft we’ve had in some time. I’ll admit I’ve always had a thing for underdogs so here’s hoping Moberg keeps defying the odds and turns that great work effort and raw talent into a pro contract someday.

It's nice seeing a lot of size in that draft. A lot of us wanted Byram but considering they picked a big Alberta boy who's an old soul and showed he can play in the NHL at 18 brings a smile to my face. Dach will probably fill out to be 6'5" 220lbs and be Toews replacement someday. He's a leader who plays strong 2way hockey and hates to lose, sounds like Captain material to me. Vlasic has the potential to be a huge stay at home top4 dman, great to go along with the smaller more offensive dmen the Hawks have drafted. Teply could be a steal in the 4th round, especially if he becomes a top6 forward. Saarela seems like a good 4th round pick as well and might be a solid bottom6 forward. Basse and Moberg are long shots but well worth taking a chance on in the 6th and 7th round, 6'6" and 6'3" and both are athletic, it'll be interesting to see how they progress. It's easy to get excited from this draft but we've been burned a lot in the past with either flops like McNeil or promising prospects traded away for a negative return, like Danault, then watching them succeed elsewhere.
