I can’t see a situation where Mitchell doesn’t get all the opportunities to crack the lineup and become a permanent fixture in the Hawks lineup. Regardless of how he plays, Stan will force JC to play Mitchell as much as possible. It’s fine to have quick puck movers on the back end on the premise that possession and movement keeps it out of your zone but reality is that you really need some defensemen that also know what to do below the hash marks. I’m wondering where we’ll stand when this team transitions to it’s new look. The thing with Mitchell is, Stan has been high on this kid for sometime now, pressuring him since college to sign with the Hawks, I don’t think you go out of your way to do such a thing, then go and place the kid in the minors. I really have no idea what JC has planned moving forward but it certainly has to be a lot better than what we have seen in the past few years. There is currently an overload on the defensive side, it’s time for the Hawks to cut and move forward on the majority of them. If there is going to be a transition, Murphy, DeHaan, Matta need to go, the entire backend will have to be overhauled. Keith will stay to mentor and if by any chance Seabs sticks around his best spot is in the third pairing.

I’m wondering where we’ll stand when this team transitions to it’s new look. Mitchell will need to have a really bad camp to not get a roster spot on opening night, whenever that is. I think he's a calm smart kid that'll step up and I'm ok with quick puck movers as well, as long as they can play D and Mitchell can. Another puck mover who'll get a look, possibly pushed on JC to play him, is Beaudin. Yes he's small and similar to Mitchell but they both play a smart 2way game and aren't afraid to play actual D. I think in Beaudins only NHL game he had 2 hits, 2 blocked shots, a couple shots and +1. These guys need to play with bigger more stay at home guys like Seabs, Murphy, and de Haan/Maatta (whomever is still here). And Keith needs be the #3 guy now, he's physically still impressive but mentally he needs less pressure. I've mentioned getting a guy like Nurse before, he'd be a good fit on the top2 paired with either Boqvist or Mitchell. Of course Carlsson will be in the mix and Bowman is high on Regula, so the blueline could be very different next season, we'll see.

There is 1 situation. A razor sharp talon up Stans nostril. 😁 Do you mean a razor sharp Tallon, like as team president? I will say that I appreciate the work Uncle Dale did here. But I don’t think I’d want him back here. Ive said for a long time now, we need a fresh set of eyes on this bitch. It’s just time to oust this current regime. Not saying that you want him back or anything like that. Just my point of view!!!

Mitchell is 21 years old and after three seasons playing against men Stan has a good idea what Mitchell is capable of doing. Personally I would keep Murphy and Maatta. I see Seabs making a successful comeback and winning the Masterton.

I realize there's a logjam on D. And maybe i just fall in love with the numbers a bit too much. But mmaattaa and koekkoek were very good together in the latter half of the season and the post season. But room needs to be made so i wonder...has anyone ever traded a defensive tandem before in one shot?
It'd be nice for a g.m. to make one trade and have his 5 and 6 defensive pairing set or 2 and 3 possibly.
And about koekkoek...i could see him being a guy involved in a minor trade but a guy who starts bringing it in his career after chicago. Just a feeling.

Koekkoek had certainly elevated his game in the past few months and at times looked like the best Defenseman the team had, end of season before Covid and during the first 2 rounds of the playoffs. I agree that the pairing with Matta looked liked a very strong tandem at times, but the reality is the team needs an overhaul on the backend, again, it’s very hard to praise players when the teams Defense has been a trainwreck for sometime now, maybe he just looked good on a backend that looked bad. The Defense needs to get better, stronger and bigger to play against. I am certainly not saying we need six or seven players at 6’5, but what the team has covered up with talent for many years in Keith, Seabs, Hammer, Oduya, Campbell has become the glaring issue. The league has changed so should the philosophy of this team. We don’t need to look any further than the Vegas series, the biggest difference was there defense, when the Hawks elevated there game offensively, they couldn’t break through, Vegas was controlling the front of there net, they were aggressive in the corners, everything Chicago wasn’t, and that needs to be changed.

It's not feasible to do what I'd like, and I'm not going through the work of number crunching cap space and contracts to come up with a realistic scenario.
All new defense outside Keith. The rest is hot garbage. The last few interviews Seabrook gave seem that he is open to leaving. He holds all the cards in that deal, but if I could move that contract I would. Maybe Vancouver would want him for his leadership on a young team looking to push to the next level, and Seabs is a BC lad. Of course, to move the contract, Van will bend SB over.
Nylander never plays another shift. Don't care what you get for him, he gone.
Kane, Toews, Dach, and Debrincat are going nowhere. If Saad can be moved for a decent return, fine, if not I wouldn't get fleeced just to move him. Rest of the forwards are expendable dime-a-dozen 3rd and 4th pairing NHL players.
If Crawford is willing to sign a short term discount deal, that's cool because there are no realistic long term solutions at the position in the system.
Finally, the mealy mouthed moron and his 13 year old coach can hit the fucking bricks, because the impossible disaster outlined above is all his fault. No more blaming Talking or Quenneville; the scorched earth campaign that left this team a burned out post-apocalyptic dystopia was led by General Stanbo.
Please Rocky Wirtz, hire some actual hockey people from outside the Hawks umbrella as President and GM and get this thing back on track so it's not 2064 when they win another Cup.

Why in God's name are so many still so high on Debrincat. He used to score goals but the phrase what have you done for me lately? He is no longer unknown or under estimated. He is being paid too much because this GM is a complete moron that signs players before he has to for too much money. Debrincat isn't going anywhere because he makes too much and and SB is an idiot.
The defense is a joke there are no pillars to build around yet for certain. This team needs a GM with the ability of Raquel Welsh's plastic surgeon. Sure there are some nice pieces but they don't fit the puzzle or are similar to other pieces. I can't say for sure I would keep Kane if Eichel was the trade piece coming back and Kane is the only real star on the team. I keep the captain and Dach on the front end. On the backend we just don't know enough about any of them. We do know none of them are a Makar or Hughes so that makes them as expendable as those presently in the lineup.
If you're to do anything blow it up to whatever extent necessary. You can't trade everyone so you make the deals you can and move on. I'd keep Highmore to he has a maturity that most of the young and old selfish players on this team lack, and likely always will.

I'd keep Highmore to he has a maturity that most of the young and old selfish players on this team lack, and likely always will. 1) I am not "so high" on DeBrincat anymore but I don't see a need to totally bail on the kid yet. He had a good rookie season, a great second season and a down third. Many players who aren't among the top 20-30 offensive players in the league have the occasional down season. I'm willing to give him another go of it and see what happens. Does he get back to prior form or continue to struggle. If it's the latter then maybe that's the real player he is, if it's the former than it was just a blip on the radar. 2) Kane is going nowhere. Stan will never pull that trigger for a variety of reasons. One being he's still among the top 3-5 most skilled offensive players in the league so it's hard to get better by dealing him. Second being he's the face of the franchise even moreso than Toews and a money-maker. Third being if you deal him you need to go full rebuild mode and they literally can't do that cause of the other contracts including Toews' who you said yourself you wouldn't deal away. Should they tear it all down and start over completely? Probably but that just can't happen. 3) not sure if you did this on purpose or not with the Eichel example but can we FINALLY stop connecting Kane to going back to Buffalo? If he was going to go back and really wanted to either he wouldn't have signed the long-term extension or he would tell Stan to engineer a deal. Think the guy is pretty happy in Chicago. Furthermore, if the Sabres were going to deal him why would they take back Kane? They aren't in a position to win now, especially if dealing him and Kane is surely not getting any younger. Kane probably only has value at this point to a team looking to win a Cup in the next 3-5 years. Buffalo doesn't fit that mold.

The big news out of Toronto is that that first round pick acquired from Pittsburgh is up for grabs. The Leafs window is closing, and they need a defenceman badly.
The Hawks need to move out a couple of defencemen this summer to find spots for at least two of Mitchell, Lucas Carlsson and Beaudin ... along with Seabrook.
I believe Maata is as good as gone (likely for a fourth/fifth round pick and a minor league contract). If I am Bowman, I keep Koekkoek because of his cheap salary and ability to play both sides. DeHaan's contract makes him undesirable trade asset (the Hawks would be better off keeping him).
This leaves Connor Murphy.
I like Murphy a great deal, but to my mind, he might provide more value to this team long term as part of a trade to acquire futures. I believe the Leafs would without question offer up the 15th pick for Murphy. They might even add more.
Trading Murphy and Maata pretty much solves the team's cap problems. The defence would be marginally worse next year, but this is the year to make this kind of move. The young guys need to play.

Which doesn’t help the Hawks. I absolutely love your line or thinking. I think Stan would get killed in that trade and send Carlsson, Murphy for the 15th pick. I do think that a team like Toronta may want Maatta and Keith, we the will need some Cup pedigree. I would 100% trade Keith and or a prospect for the 15th pick. Boston, in 2015 a deep draft got a couple good players for their team by adding 3 consecutive picks at 14/15/16 and got Debrusk and a couple other ones, including Carlo in the 2nd round. Hawks need the same type of thinking. If the Hawks did squire the 15th pick. I’d try and trade 15 and 17 to Ottawa for the 5th pick and take the best player available. Ottawa does this because they would have 4 first rounders including the 3rd pick. That’s how you rebuild. The Hawks could use another top 5 pick bad!!!

I would not hesitate to eat some of the Murphy contract to get the pick. Eat half and take Liljegren back in the deal along with the first.
Keith I keep unless he wants to go.
Maata could be added to the Leaf deal if they want him.

If that's true, Crow won't be back.

If Bowman is interested in Murray, try to sign him to an offer sheet.
Offer $4.2 M/ 3 years. If he signs, it would be a 2nd round pick compensation.

However, I think Rutherford is much smarter and will have other trade partners lined up. So if a lowball offer sheet is said to be coming in, and GMs know this stuff, or at least a good one. They trade his rights to a team that will gladly match that!!!

Sure I like Cat I love Kane the issue is that in order to improve and move forward you have to deal something of worth. A lot of the GM's that have made big deals in the past have been successful. Mostly because they had balls to pull the trigger on deals that left their fan base upset. It's not something this team needs to worry about anyways. The present GM doesn't have the fortitude to be able to pull off a big deal especially one that he could win on. I think Lehner may have been the biggest deal he ever pulled off and were going to have to wait to see how that works. I'm saying blow it up to an extent yes. Something has to give you can sell a winning horse after it's career but it's really difficult if he ready to be put out to pasture. So how do you clear cap space without relieving the team of a big cap hit? Sure you can weaken the rest of the team like Toronto and others and have a flashy two top lines. It's near impossible to win cups with no depth. Every team is in the same boat but SB has himself in a big cap mess. If going after another cup they better make moves to get players that can help not hinder the team like last off season.

Smith will be bought out or LTIR'd so this leaves three starting centers not named Jonathan Toews who had 19 goals last year.......combined. This will wear JT down even faster but at least we'll have someone to blame for things going off the rails.

I'm good with blowin it up now too doogs and I'd watch the team w/o K&T just for the laughs. Cap space? SB brought in de Haan 4.55M,Maata 4M,Shaw 3.9M and Smith 3.25M simple math and a simple mind tells me we coulda got a LOT more for 15.65 million. The team also lost a 2nd,a 3rd, a starting center and a decent young forward with these moves. Only Maata avoided LTIR out of these four and only two were available in the post season. I'm not sure a GM could do much worse. Lehner played well but since we ate half his money to move him and the team still ended up in last place......that signing's a wash IMO. Kubalik was a very good acquisition so far but Joker for Nolander was another AWEFUL SB trade. I pointed out how much last summer hurt this team and it will continue to hurt it for some time. The team had picks to trade(2nd&3rd for Shaw),prospects to trade(Joker for CRAP) and a proven starting center to trade(AA) and the above was the return? They can trade D-Cat too and I'd bet a bunch his next HC plays him in his top six!

Kubalik for a 5th rounder was a great acquisition. So far the Joker for Nylander looks terrible but trades are not always won or lost based on one season. Smith for AA saved $1.3M in salary cap space and although AA was a proven center he was only 44-45% at the dot in Chicago not much better than Dach who is at 33% when you consider that AA is near the end of his career and Dach is just beginning his. Experience counts.
As for your bet you will not get any sane takers. The odds would be too much in your favour. People have no faith in Stan's trading so if Stan traded D-Cat he would become a 50 goal scorer and just another reason to blame Stan. Fret not D-cat is a different breed of cat. He had his sophomore jinks a year late. The season was cut short and DeBrincat was only 12 goals shy of 30 with 12 games left and de-Cat is known as a streaky scorer. Well within range.

Still got Toews/Dach/Kampf/Carpenter and, unless they buy him out, Smith. So ideally you'd be missing a decent No. 3 C but can probably fill that with a decent signing I like Dach a lot but I'm still not s sure he's a center at this point and since he couldn't even win half his draws against teenagers.....at any point. A 2LC with 8 goals who's 33% at the dot worries me.....as much as I worry about the team these days. Smith will be bought out or LTIR'd so this leaves three starting centers not named Jonathan Toews who had 19 goals last year.......combined. This will wear JT down even faster but at least we'll have someone to blame for things going off the rails. Thanks for your perspective on Dach. I can see why you worry, not only about him, but about the other "centers". It is so hard for me to judge some of these young guys, like Dach. At times he looks good, but, otherwise, I am not really impressed. But, what do I know, it is just my worthless opinion. Even with DCat, I was impressed with his sniping, but always thought that he lacked a good level of playmaking. You already told me about his decent assist totals, so, again, I am not sure what to think about him.

The difference between 33 and 45% at the dot is massive my friend,I think Dach was a good choice but he hasn't won faceoffs at any level. AA's also good for 18-20+ goals a year and Smith is a 4th line slug at this point,1.3M difference between a starting center and a 4th line wing with a few goals is nothing. If Dach was a good faceoff guy in Jr's,I'd leave this topic alone but that's not the case. Nolander sucks and was scratched in an elimination game.......that's embarrassing.

D-Cat and Strome were like Peas and Carrots last year with the numbers to match......JC turned em both into rotten vegetables when he separated them and he did so right off the bat.

Your impression of these players is as thorough as anyone's jack and my ONLY criticism of Dach is FO's.......the kid has tons of other abilities. Yeah,I pointed out decent assist totals from D-Cat but he's certainly no Kane or Panarin........probably why he makes 60% of what they do. Panarin's yet to hit the 40 goal mark too.

Dach is also going to have to learn to shoot the puck. Seems like he hesitates to pull the trigger.
