Why TF would they change the draft format and keep the draftees and all of the 32 management groups separate? What TF would be gained? I don't get it either. Think of all the deals that are made between picks (face to face).

It was a rough check but not an open ice blindside designed to injure him. I hope he bounces back.

Connor Garland name is popping up again as Canucks looking to create cap space. Garland has almost $5M for another three years counting this year. If I am Davidson I got to get/ask for a number #1 to take this cap hit. According to reports Flyers and Preds also tied to Garland.

I am not real familiar but where would he potentially slot in Chicago? $5M - that's damn good $ for a non first-liner. Plus it looks like Vancouver gave up a 1st when acquiring him - even if they're desperate, another 1st to get out from that $5M/year thing, we would need to be comfortable that there is more upside given his small stature. There's 2 more full years on that contract and he would be at the end the year that we will need to (let's all presume) tie-up Bedard (after 2025-26).

Right now only Jones is on the books after season 2025-2026, but we all know Bedard will join him probably sometime next season. Canucks do have all their 1st picks starting in 2024. We do own their 2024 2nd round pick for the Stillman/Dickinson trade (great move by Davidson). Garland is another smallish forward who could add some scoring, not a big fan of taking his cap hit for almost 3 years, but a future #1 which would probably be top 10 protected might have to consider assuming Vancouver gives it up.

couple useless factoids o' the day.
minny scored 2 SHGs on the same penalty against montreal tonight. that hadn't happened to montreal in a game since april 11th 2009 against pittsburg. MAF was the opposing goalie in both games.
and the other one...
i wonder if more penalty shots was the plan, or if it's just some kind've weird, wild coincidence.

MONTREAL -- Montreal Canadiens forward Kirby Dach will miss the rest of the season because of a right knee injury that will require surgery, the team said Tuesday.
Dach's ACL and MCL were torn when he was checked into the Chicago bench by defenseman Jarred Tinordi during the first period of Montreal's home opener Saturday night.
Dach had two assists in two games this season, slotting in as Montreal's second-line center behind Nick Suzuki. He had 14 goals and 24 assists in 58 games last season, his first with the Canadiens after a trade with Chicago.
Dach, 22, missed 24 games late last season because of a lower-body injury, followed by an upper-body injury. In the 2020-21 season, while playing with the Blackhawks, he was limited to 18 games because of a wrist injury.

If they were that concerned just keep it to the GM(s) and the scouts present. No need to bring their entire bloody families there and up to the podium.

I didn't get a chance to see much of the Montrel game Saturday night, did Dach do anything to rise Tinordi's ire? The hit was rightfully not called a penalty IMO because it was within the rules but 'clean' or not is a matter of perspective. I like Tinordi and there's a time and place for that hit.....were the Habs targeting anybody before that? If not,I'm not sure a team with the best young player in the league wants to be bending opponent's good young players in half over the boards......but what do I know.

going back to last season, that's 8 straight games without a goal for ovechkin. caps lose in ottawa 6-1.
he's also gone 2 games in a row without a shot on goal. a couple people on twitter saying it's the first time in his career that's happened but not 100% sure that it's true or not.

Debrincat with 5 goals in first 4 games with Detroit nice start for d-cat. leads the league in points (8) and is one goal off matthews for the league lead in goals. ex-hawks hagel and teravainen each have 4 goals in 4 games as well.

Not sure about that, he’s hurt now, had a shoulder injury during the worlds last year and has had more than one concussion in junior. For a player who has to play a somewhat robust game to succeed this might be considered worrisome.

5 goals in 4 games is pretty good considering it took d-cat 16 games to hit 5 goals last year with ottawa and 11 games the year before that with chicago.
his 38.5% shooting percentage this season isn't hurting things.
