I believe I've mentioned this before, but Ovi strikes me as having the same mindset as Emmitt Smith. he isn't going to retire until he gets the record, despite not being as good as the guy who's record he is determined to break... I just don’t believe he gets the record. In 2 years time he’ll be a corpse out there. Even next season, he may only garner 10 goals. Or less. Not many 39 year olds put up big numbers. And next season when he’s 39. I doubt he gets her back. He’s all but done. Unless he wants to play as long as Jagr, I don’t see a record in his future. That team is shit and won’t be better anytime soon!!! that is what I am saying. even if he is a corpse, if there is a team that will sign him, he will roll out there and keep at it until he breaks the record. I would say that perhaps the rest of the league maybe gets together and no one signs him to break 99's record, but.... the mfer has 2 more season in Washington after this one and I'm sure their owner will want to keep the potential record breaking be available to bet on until the contract is over...

I was thinking last night, while watching this game, that I REALLY hope the 'nucks win that division so we can see this matchup right off the bat this spring. if I were an Oil fan, I'd be wanting the same thing. beating the "VGK" (as the annoucer kept calling them last night) to get the playoffs started could be a huge momentum boost for Edmonton.. Hopefully the Oilers finish the year the way they started, and miss the playoffs. lol, yeah I don't see that happening for ya, man... I'd instead hope the Skin-man reverts back to his early season shittiness once the playoffs start.

I feel the oilers were that bad defensively. You’d think that McDavidcould go to Holland and tell him they need a coaching change. My guess is the team wanted a new coach. And they wanted someone they could control. This Chuck Knoblock guy seems like he won’t rock the boat and just lets them play. But for how long? He’ll have a solid year and a half to get a Cup or he’s done!!!

Nasty injury to Sergachev tonight. He could be out of the season. Looking like that TB pick will be around early teens, or maybe theyll take Murphy

Once one injury hampers a team that much. It’s not a good sign. They may want to look to rebuild too. Trade guys while they have worth. Ive never been a fan of chasing the dream. Then it becomes a nightmare. Hawks did it for 5-6 years. Let’s hope they’re stupid and will give multiple first round picks for one of our aging Dmen. Maybe even Murphy!!!

Why would anyone do that and do you think TB has a history of doing stupid things? Any team would have a massive void after losing an outstanding 25yro D-man to a devastating injury. Sergachev is coming off a 10/64 season and just started the first year of his 8.5MX8 deal,it is a big set-back but Hedman and Cernak will have to step-up in his absence. Sergachev and a 2nd for Drouin and a 6th might have been the best hockey trade of the last decade. Kucherov's 30 and leads the league in scoring,Point's 27,Cerilli's 26,Paul's 28,Hagle's 25,Cernak's 26,Sergachev's 25 and Vasilevskiy's 29 and all are wrapped-up long term except 'Kuch',who only has three left. Their 30 and under, eight player core will be intact for years to come and Stamkos' deal comes off this year, unless he stays for less and Hedman's deal comes off the year after. TB will need 26yro Jeannot to work-out after giving up a bunch of picks but he's signed for one more @2.66M and Cooper has a long track record of developing and teaching young players. The Lightning will re-tool.....successfuly? We'll see. End of an era? Time will tell. Is 8gms over and a firm grip on a spot a "nightmare"? Is last place "chasing the dream"?

They got about 14 million in cap space for next year, with 6 positions to fill. Normally I’d say that ain’t too bad, but Stamkos has to be signed. I think losing him is detrimental to the team. Even if he gets 6 million, they’ll have 8 million for 5 players. Plus the team is looking more and more worn out. They’re barely a playoff team with that roster. No assets for upgrades, and no cap space. What you see is what you get, but always a year older. They’ve had since 2014 as a very good team. It’s been a decade. They’ve been to 4 Cup finals. Its hard to go any longer. I’d say this is as close to the end that you’re gonna see. The next one is the Pens and the worst is the Capitals. All 3 teams in dire need of starting a rebuild!!!

When it comes to TB,time will tell. They're a perrinial PO team with a firm hold on a spot again this year w/o their world class GT for the first 2 months. Almost all of their best players are 30 or younger,a few much younger and their two older players are on expiring contracts. The Caps and Pens best players are much older and signed for longer.....apples to oranges. Teams with outstanding, young cores do not rebuild and there's more than one way to do so when they decide to rebuild. Being historically bad for several years is one way,but that doesn't always work either or else AZ woulda won a few by now. Boston,Dallas and LV never have to be bottom-feeders to stay on top or to add a few good, young players through the draft. What'd the Rangers' rebuild take.....two years? So,if you're runnin' the Lighting, you trade the league's 30yro leading scorer? 27yro Point? 29yro Vasilevskiy? 25yro Sergachev? 25yro Hagel? Then what?

The Winged wheel is knocking on Tampa’s door. Tampa has 61 points. Detroit and Toronta each have 60. Detroit has 2 games in hand and Toronta has 3.
I would say the way the wings have been playing, they’re getting in. Either Toronta or Tampa will be very very sad these playoffs. Or non playoffs.
If the Hawks could acquire the leafs 1st rounder. They would have a solid hedge fund. Not sure the Hawks have much to trade at this point. But it’d still be nice!!!

I thought then it would a been best to let him walk for the slightly younger Seth Jones. I fully understand chemistry and all that. But Reilly is paid like a stud dman and in reality he’s probably a 3-4 guy. With that said, I never ever would have signed Tavares. Never. I would have used that 11 million to round out the roster. If the leaves keep up their recklessness. They’ll be where the Hawks were in 2017. Struggling to make the playoffs. Then 5 years later. They’ll give up and rebuild!!!

And they just double-down and give HUGE extensions to Mathews and Nylander,Marner's due for his next one, don't attempt to move Travares' deal and ADD UFA forwards Burtuzzi and Domi? This forward-centric approach might be successful in the regular season once again, because they can feast on weaker or average defensive teams but none of those teams make the PO's. The thing with the Leafs is,they can't rebuild T. The pressure on that Org alone won't allow it,but what really won't allow it is..... Mathews new 13.25MX4 deal and Nylander's new 11.5MX8 deal and Reilly has six left @7.5M too. They have no 1st in '25' and no 2nd in the next three drafts and the 23rd rated prospect system. OH......and all three of those guys have full NMC's.

Since Tavares only has one year left and Jones has six,we'd have to retain some $$$,probably 2M or so but a rising cap would eat that right up. The Leafs could also use some picks in the worst way, they have no 2nd's the next three drafts and the Hawks have EIGHT. We have their '25' first round pick too. Sweeten this trade enough to get 21yro 6'3" 217lb forward Knies out of the deal!!!!!!

Everything I’ve heard, and someone close to Tavares, is that Tavares will not be waiving his NMC at all. If anything, he’s looking for another deal. I doubt in the 11 million range. I could see him signing for 3 years at 12 million.
But it is new management. And they may not want him around at all. It’s time Mathews became captain. If there’s is a good 27-28 year old stud Dman coming up in the UFA market, that’s where I’m looking. Can’t go heavy forwards anymore!!!

On the Leaves front. Gotta give credit to Mathews. He’s a generational player and I hope he gets 70. He’s a pleasure to watch. He’s at 42 goals in 49 games. He very well could hit 70. If he goes on a heater, even 80 isn’t out at this point.
What’s most impressive, is in this era, hitting 60 is just like hitting 80. Back in the 80s there was 3 lines, so your top players got a lot of ice time. Now players get 17-20. If Mathews hits 70, that’s pretty damn equal to 90. I hope OV doesn’t get the record and Mathews passes OV. Mathews is 26 and has 341 goals already. By the time he’s 32. He very well could be close to 700 or over that!!!
