The opt out of players before the season resumed to todays announcement by Rask raises an interesting question. When a champion is crowned, will the players that opted out, who played the entire season before the shutdown, get their names on the cup? I would think in Rasks case, he would. He played a playoff game or was at least on the roster. If someone opted out, I’d think they wouldn’t as they would not be on the playoff roster!!!

Looks like a huge comeback in the making for Dallas tonight. crazy. down a field goal but then dallas converts on a TD. and in the east, ovie, backstrom, wilson, oshie, kuznetsov and carlsson pitch a combined -15 in an elimination loss to barry trotz and the isles. love that.

I can barely say how satisfying that series was! The Caps 2nd straight 1st round exit and this time at the hands of the cup winning HC they kicked to the curb!

Hi guys!!!
Woot!!!
Sorry about the Hawks fate. But, Blues down. I know this is something we can all agree on.
Also I know we are likely to get shellacked next round. So I will just enjoy this win for now.
Heart you guys on here!

So I will just enjoy this win for now. Heart you guys on here! Regards N. I’m really happy for you guys. After the last group the Nucks had, it’s tough to rebuild. But gawd damit they did it and did it fast. It’s amazing what a solid GM can do in a few years. And it’s not like they got any luck in the draft lotto. Seriously, the Nucks got screwed over every time they were a bad team. When I look at Petterson, Boeser, Hughes, plus the trade for Miller, signing a rat in Rousell. Just amazing work by Benning. This is truly his team. Not much left over from the last regime. This may not be your year, but winning against the Cup champs is HUGE. Plus you still got that crafty Russian still coming in Podkolzin. You guys will be loaded for awhile. The cupboards are full and the cap seems to be under control for the time being. Good for you guys, good things will come!!!

Plus a few other teams like Edmonton, does Toronta seriously keep Andersen? If the Avs don’t go all the way, do they load up on Cup experience? If he isn’t in the Hawks plans or the Hawks aren’t in his plans, he’ll have no problem finding a new home!!!

i understand that player agents are going to look out for their client's best interests but this is utter and complete b.s. what fleury's agent is doing here.
edit: maybe i'm wrong in thinking that MAF had nothing to do with this but i just can't picture the majority of NHL players pulling a stunt like this in the middle of the bloody playoffs.

How's that decision to not give Trotz the contract he deserved after bringing them their first Stanley Cup doing for you Washington? He's got the Islanders in the Conference Semis while the Caps go home after the first round.
It's kind of eerie how similar this is to the end of Q's era in Chicago. Both franchises let Stanley Cup winning, HOF coaches go and hired unknown NHL coaches to replace them.

I was quite surprised by the Stars' win over the Avs. What was even more surprising to me was that the Stars were 4-0 with the Avs during the regular season. It is weird that a team as good as the Avs could be so dominated in the regular season and then have it continue at least in the first game of the series. I don't know enough about the dynamic to even attempt an explanation, but the Stars do have a very good first line---Radulov, Benn and Seguin. But, it has to be more than that. Grubauer left the game for the Avs with a left leg injury, the details of which are unknown to me.

But I don’t see how that’s protection? If anything, he caused his client more grief than anything. Cuz now Flower has to answer for his agents dickheadness!!!

Cuz now Flower has to answer for his agents dickheadness!!! that really put MAF in a difficult situation. and this guys supposed to be a professional agent? if i was fleury i'd have no choice and wouldn't think twice to can him. the guy has a stable full of players including pacioretty, huberdeau, and matthew highmore among others.

Grubauer left the game for the Avs with a left leg injury, the details of which are unknown to me. this doesn't really mean anything but i heard it mentioned on one of the broadcasts that there were no 10 million dollar plus salaries left on the final 8 teams and that seguin was the highest paid player left at 9 mill and change. as far as grubauer....i have very little doubt it was his groin because he has a history of groin injuries. their other goalie is a 30 year old czech, pavel francouz. only 2 nhl seasons and 34 reg. season games but his career numbers are 2.40 and .923 %. his numbers were better than grubauer's this year and he had 5 more wins than grubauer despite playing in 2 less games. so hopefully the loss of grubauer doesn't hurt their chances too much.

Avs up 2-0 almost halfway thru the game, stars pot 5 straight to win the game. Couple games back, stars go down 3 early to calgary, stars pot 7 straight to win handily again. I think the secret to beating dallas is not to get a lead on them.

I think they’ll look for size and a goalie for next year. I could see them adding a Maroon and CC for next year. They’re not done. But Dallas’s size is really killing the smaller Avs. Once again, size and grit is proving its worth in the playoff arena once again!!!

Here's another successful PO team full of 'beefy tostadas' ......... www.nhl.com/islanders/rosterOne small forward @ 5'10" 180lbs and one small D-man in Aho which is fine on a big D squad. These are the boys I'm pullin' for!

Gotta have that balance. We have too many dancers and not enough bouncers. Gotta protect the ladies on stage!!!

The Islanders are certainly a tribute to Barry Trotz. The Caps were fools for letting him walk.

tortorella fines $25k for walking out on the post game presser, taking just 2 questions after being eliminated by TB. he's now been fined $162k in his career. i think he's a pretty good old school type of coach but i also think he's a cry baby and a sore loser.

I’m not sure those Avs got any grit. I’d have to think that’s the bigger factor right now. Guys like Rantanen, Burakovsky, Namestnikov, Nichushkin, Nieto, Donskoi, Lindholm, Girard, Jost do not have the most truculence in them. And that’s half of the playing roster. Even Makar and Mackinnon don’t exactly come with pugnacity either. So most of their roster is on the softer side!!!

That I will agree with. I just don’t see him grinding it out for pucks. Which is a necessary evil in the playoffs. MacKinnon will get it. I have no worry about that. If they lose this year, you can bet that he’ll become that ultimate player that wants to win at all costs, he’s almost there now. It took players like Yzerman, Ovechkin, Backstrom, Hossa, etc years to figure out how to win. It’s a few little things that’ll get him to understand the difference. He’s close. Just like Mathews and Marner, they’ll have to learn the playoff game. Although I think Mackinnon is further along than those two!!!
