That's pretty high per year but he's only 26, so 33 when his contract is up. Those are prime years for dmen so hopefully he lives up to it.

I hope the reports are wrong. that is just a ridiculous amount to give up for a dman who has never even been a Norris finalist and has been trending down the last couple years....

I'd argue that the prime years in hockey now are more like 23-29.

For dmen it used to be mid 20's till early 30's, forwards were sooner and goalies later.

Apparently it’s Boqvist, and they swapped picks, 12 for 32. But there’s more involved!!!

This is even worse than I was expecting from Bowman. You start getting a little bit of breathing room with the cap and then he does this. And since he is still signed for this year, why not wait and see what he can do for us before extending him. He won't need an nmc because no one in their right mind would trade for that contract. After being a loyal Hawks fan for 54 years, I'm coming very close to changing my allegiance to the Bruins right now. I'll come back when Bowman's gone.

Dammit Vads, I've agreed with everything you said here. I'm trying sooo hard to like this move, but I just can't. I mean a supposedly 7 year extension and Adam Boqvist, plus and this just kills me, supposedly 12th overall pick in the draft Friday, on a team that's "rebuilding"? For Fu*ks sakes I hate Stan Bowman!

Boqvist wasn’t the best pick there anyways and they mishandled him to boot. That one miscue really stings though as Bowman again gets rid of another first round pick. Gawd I want him turfed and all the sycophants that are feeding him.

Trading this years 1st was a dumb move, unless they can trade to get LAs pick or someone else's in or near the top10. Maybe Strome will entice LA with maybe one of the Hawks 2nds.

I like the player and the return seems fair but the money and term are big. Jones should be good enough to insure we don't see a high pick for the next few years and I thought that was the way the team was goin' but who knows where TF we're goin'.
Guess this brings the 'we have the next Keith and Karlsson' to an abrupt end,we traded the next Keith and Karlsson.......and the real Keith too.....LOL
With Jokiharju and Boqvist already being given up on,how long till Beaudin and Mitchelle follow and we were supposedly set for a decade at the position.
edit: the return sounded a lot better before reading about giving up next year's #1

I guess I like Jones more than most but isn't this a move that a team on the 'cusp' makes? We on the 'cusp' Stan?

at this point i hope next year's first ends up being first overall. literally the only good part of this trade is that if the get a top 2 next year, we keep the pick. but then have to give up our shot in 2023...

Bowman values other teams fourth rounders over his own picks. Yes, Jones becomes the best defenseman but the future is being traded for what will become a very short now. Big overpayment.
