Missing why no QO for those two, trying to guarantee Borgstrom has to make the team? they could have a contract already made for that is higher (but more term) than the 1yr qualifying ? (just guessing)I see Hagel, Z and Nylander QO, im thinking these have a conflict in negotiations. I know of at least two of them asking for more than the Hawks' first offer. QO keep their rights to the Hawks and not lose them as UFA this wednesday

The QO just retains their rights. 1 of 2 things is happening here. 1) they’re flat out done with them and letting them become free agents. Or 2) they’re signing for less than the QO. The QO is a raise of at least 10%. So now as free agents they can sign for less to stay with Chicago!!!

Suter was given his shot by the team to get his foot in the door. now they're opening the door for him to explore other options. ie, he wants too much money. we got free agents to pursue. and possibly a defenseman to overpay for (hopefully for one year)...

so, with the big addition onboard now, what's next? you have to assume after a move like this that they are set on going for it one more time... so what else needs to be done? there are still six more rounds of the draft left, but no one we get there is likely to contribute in the next year or two, so let's save that for the draft thread. the next big thing is obviously free agency. our current cap space remaining is approximately 6 million bucks... right now, the 'hawks have 22 signed for next year: 12 f, 7 d, 3 g. obviously one of those 'tenders are heading to Rockford next year, so let's say 21 signed players. we have only 2 UFAs and I'd say it is safe to say that Zach Smith isn't coming back, so the only player there to consider is Hinostroza. I like his effort, but unless he signs for as cheaply as he can, I'll pass. even then, I might still say nah, tbh. on to the RFAs, of which we have 6. on d, we all know Z is the only one. if his price comes down, do we sign him? do we let him go to arbitration? do we tell him to beat it with Jones now in tow? I honestly don't really see how we afford him now unless he takes a pay cut and I doubt he goes for that. he seems like trade bait this weekend to me. at forward, there are 5: Kampf, Suter, Gaudette, Hagel, and Nylander. I have to think that Bowman wants to keep all 5. the question is how much do we pay for them? how many can we sign to 2 way deals so we can stash them in Rockford? personally, I don't see any way they let Kampf go. he is the teacher's pet. hopefully he doesn't want more than a million per. anything more than that is too much if we want to build a contender. Gaudette and Suter almost surely will not sign 2 way deals at this stage of their career, so decisions need to be made there. I could see both being traded. Nylander, on the other hand, should absolutely be signed to a 2 way deal. if he won't, then he can sit out another season if he wants. he needs to be parked in Rockford to start the year, and considering his injury, he shouldn't have too much to say about that. which leaves Hagel, who apparently thinks he needs a big pay day now. he better get over that shit, cuz he hasn't earned one yet (as much as I like him) AND, again, we are obviously going for it and need all the money we can get to try and contend this coming season. so, another choice to be made... now, we can exceed the cap by 10% (I believe) prior to opening night. so there is another 8 million. then there is the 10.7 million in LTIR we have in Seabs and Shaw... Bowman is going to have to decide when/ how he wants to use that soon. either we use it now or once the season begins, but we could use some in the summer and have a bit more to use in free agency. which leaves us with trades. Seattle did us no favors by leaving us stick with DeHaan. at the same time, if we are going for it now, I have a hard time seeing being moved now, as we will need him for the second pairing and on the pk. he and Murphy also could be used at the deadline to acquire some picks at the deadline should things not go as planned. I think we either move one of them so we can sign Z or we just trade the rights to Zadorov. one of those 3 absolutely has to go... finally, who do we go after now in free agency? we could really use another center (obviously). could guys like Mitchell and Kalynuk end up in Rockford and we add another vet on the backend? I could see it. should we add a vet in net as well? I could see that as well. so much still to come this summer, but it appears it'll be a wild one for us 'hawks fans cuz apparently the rebuild is on hold and we are going all in once again! It sure does appear that they are all in once again. I think the D might be able to hold its own if one of those goalies has a good year. However, they are sure lacking in the forward positions. Beyond K, T and DCat, what do they have except guys who occasionally shine, but have not been able to put it together night after night as evidenced by the overwhelming deficit in puck possession demonstrated in almost every game last year. It is hard to see how the addition of Toews will make that much difference. A team can't score without the puck and the Hawks sure are good at making sure that the other team has the puck most of the time; and worse yet, that they have the puck in the Hawks' end of the ice to hammer the Hawk goalie. It is the lack of skilled offensive players beyond the big three that makes me doubt this team's ability to overcome its own mediocrity.

I agree. They protected Kampf. So I’d have to think they bring him back. I think Suter wants too much and they probably have better options via free agents. I’ve heard that Hyman is a guy on the Hawks list. We’ll see. Gotta think a few dudes are gonna be brought in. I don’t think Jones is the only one. I wouldn’t doubt if Scam loads up Rockford this year with a lot of guys we thought would be on the big club. Gaudette is big too. Plus Hyman. Gotta think ol Scambo is looking at the playoff rosters of the successful teams and thinking….. hmmm. I might actually give that a go. I think it would be great if they could get Hyman and Saad here. That’s some serious muscle going forward. Then make a deal for a decent dman. Then maybe they look alright!!!

Kampf wont be getting a raise I cant imagine a team paying him. Suter I would assume is gone. Question Suter avv salary was $1,775,000 so would it be 10% more of that number ?

Wouldn’t both Suter and Kampf have let their intentions been known before this day? Wouldn’t the rights to both have then been tradable unless that was tried as well. I think both had value for some teams.

I'm sure they tried to move Suter, but why would anyone trade for him when they could sign him for free? edit: also Suter is arbitration eligible and would surely cost more via arbitration than the team wants to pay.

It would appear he wanted 2 million plus on a 1year. Probably wanted a longer term deal at 3 million per. He’s not super young so he wants his money now. Can’t blame him. Good luck to him!!!

I read an article at the Athletic about how much he was paid, how much his raise would be and what he would get on a one year deal. The way around the Athletic is to sign up to free for three weeks, cancel, then sign up again for another free trial a few weeks later. I don’t read it all the time so it works for me!!!

Bruins didn’t Qualify Nick Ritchie. He’s 25 and will be a free agent. He scored 15 goals in the shortened season last year and 26 points. Would you rather pay Suter or pay Ritchie? To me Ritchie is a power forward the Hawks need. This guy would be my target!!!

In order to get other players like the aforementioned, MAF would have to decline to come here and retire. Then there’s 7.5 to play with. No money left to do much. Unless he has plans to trade some of the dead weight contracts. Kinda stuck here!!!

I think that 2nd rounder is short lived . I think they’ll flip that in another trade to get rid of Shaw. I think Scambo has gone mad with power and money. Bitch better be cool, cuz he could sink the Hawks long term. For a long long while!!!
