His 5M extends 1 year beyond Seabrook's deal, so we have ~2M in cap advantage over what we would have had with Seabs on the books until Seabs would have been done and the 5M hits us...and 5M, while a lot, is not *a lot*. It's not the same 5M that kicked in for Keith way back when we won the 1st cup. By that time Toews and Kane should be off their current deals. Given what Ovi signed for that might be some relief because Kane and Toews aren't Ovi and he's making a mill less than both of them right now. With the core contracts off of the books that 5M shouldn't be as much of a monolithic deal as Seth Jones's. Also, like Jones and MAF (possibly), let's see what they do on the ice in the Indianhead first. For all we know Johnson is a ~20G player again...or he could be a dud. 5 million for a bottom 6 guy is a lot, but as you said, let's see how he looks in the ice. as von and I said, hopefully a change of scenery will help. It is, but for now we're playing a cap advantage over Seabrook for the offseason roster. It's not perfect but in the here-and-now, its acceptable and by 2024/2025 a lot more things could shake out to where the 'hawks could possibly absorb that cap hit--assuming he's still even with the 'hawks.

So the Hawks sign McCabe from Buffalo.
4 for @4 per year.
Nothing to write home about him. Looks to have been somewhat injured the last couple seasons.

The Chicago Blackhawks signed forward Jujhar Khaira to a two-year contract ($975,000 AAV) and defenseman Jake McCabe to a four-year contract ($4.0 million AAV).

But have never played 82 games because of injuries and healthy scratches. And coming off a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus last year and "Dumboman" does a 4 for 4? I don't like it...
Some one prove me wrong...

I like the tool in Cap Friendly to compare contracts for the same type player. IE. defensemen. www.capfriendly.com/comparables/jake-mccabe-10726

We need guys that can play on the top lines and win board battles. This isn't any better than when we replaced Buff, Ladd, Eager and Burish with John Scott.

Also getting a vibe that the nylander experiment might be over unless he signs with Rockford.
Just not sure what the holdup is on getting Hagel locked, other than the Hawks are now at zero cap. Unless they can move Shaws money.

I assume that this is it, as far as trades, and now we can start speculating about the lineup. Gone:Suter Hino Kampf What about Connelly and Carpenter? Where will Nylander and Bogrstrom be used?

One thing that massively concerns me. Is the amount of turnover. It’s hard for a team to gel when there’s that many new faces. I’m not sure it works out as planned. I feel the Hawks can make the playoffs, but not sure the Hawks go very far. And every year that passes is one more that you don’t get back. The Duo of 19/88 is coming to an end sooner than later. So I hope Scambo is in this for the next few years. Cuz it may not work out after year one. And probably doesn’t. So he needs to hold on to this creation of his longer than he has in the past and make knee jerk reactions and put out another gawd damn letter!!!

My other concern is what about Beaudin, Mitchell and Kalynuk now? They’re all AHL fill. I’m not liking the future here. These kids will all want to be dealt soon due to no room here. They were all good they’re the future, now it’s the total opposite!!!

welp...
judging by all that has transpired, it seems to me that ole Stan watched the playoffs and was big into following his boy Marc's team in Montreal...
looks like he figures: add a #1 d and then a #1 goaltender. then just add in grinders that will make it hard to play against and rely on a handful of guys to doing the scoring. grind your way to the Final.
let's see how that goes.

I don't think so. Is Johnson really that much over an improvement of Hino? Not for the money that we pay him.

I would rather have that happen next year with everything getting back to normal.

I absolutely see what you’re saying. But these kids aren’t even getting a fair chance to make the team this year after doing pretty well last year. Now they’ve been given up on. Gotta feel for them. Mitchell was told they’re rebuilding and he’d get a shot. Scambo passed him along as the next great thing, like Makar. Maybe he could be, but he’s not gonna get a chance now. I think it’d be best to just trade the lot of them. Give them a shot. With the brothers Jones here, McCabe, Murph, Stillman and DeHaan. There’s just no room for them to break in over the next couple of years. Give em a shot elsewhere!!!

Late 3rd actually. Nice value Stan is smokin' ...something It was a pick Calgary got from the Leafs so it could be an early 3rd.

I get it if we can't afford Zadorov, but I don't like it. It essentially means that for the story thus far, Panarin was dealt for a Calgary 3rd. That was the same price for Bollig. It may not be an apples-to-apples comparison but that stings especially when you compare it to Karpo for Hjammer, getting the most out of him and then flipping it for Murph, who's at least a serviceable bottom pair. One could put it that way. One could also put it that because we could not afford to sign Panarin we got a third for Zadorov.
