So, Jones had one year left, but the reports are that the Hawks gave him an 8 year extension. So, is he signed for a total of 9 years (the last one on his current contract plus 8 more), or was the last year of his current contract scratched and he gets a total of 8 starting this fall? this year plus 8. Muchas gracias!!!!

Who is a F'ing fit? It'll be interesting to see what chasing forwards all the way out to the blue line does to Jones' game too. Exactly, that has to stop. The dman shouldn't go past the faceoff dot, that's when the winger and/or center should take over. I like Z and if he'll sign for 4+ million per for 3yrs do it, if not, arbitration will favor the Hawks. I'll pass for 4M myself,he gets walked by fast forwards and he's only tough occasionally........he's a paper tiger much of the time too. Jones,Murphy,deHAAH-job,Z(if he returns),Kaylnuk,Stillman and Jones Jr don't leave any room at the Inn for Beaudin and Mitchell.........two more failed picks soon to be launched?

Not much. The Hawks have a very low tier prospect pipeline, hence all the Euro dartboard moves. Losing these latest draft picks is going to reverberate for a long time. By the time they win again there’s a good chance I won’t remember it an hour later. The weakness of the AHL prospects and forwards in general in the system was overshadowed the last 2-3 years by the perceived quality of the 1st round D prospects but we now find Jokiharju and Boqvist traded and Beaudin and Mitchell falling further down the depth chart with every move. Is there ANY way SB can overpay Z too after breaking the bank with Jones? god i hope not....

That's 3.2M more than the deals Keith and Seabs had everybody bitching about!

I’m still hoping big Z can be moved. I like him but he is just not a fit for what Colliton is selling. How he ever got here at all is baffling. Who is a F'ing fit? It'll be interesting to see what chasing forwards all the way out to the blue line does to Jones' game too. Seems to me Colliton is a fan of the hybrid defense. It’s been around for years. Philly uses it and probably others, I don’t follow all the games like I used to. True man to man doesn’t work well at the NHL level, it’s too easy for talented players to beat their man. The hybrid lets some of your players, including sometimes both defencemen, to play man to man while the weak side guys play the zone. And yes, sometimes your winger defends the net. But everyone needs to know what to do and you have to have really mobile defense. Zadorov comes in last year, no camp, and plays the way he’s played his whole life and he looked OK. Season goes on, he starts to play Colliton’s system and suddenly he’s a fish out of water. Unless you’ve been exposed to it before it seems like it’s tough to pick up. I dont know if King teaches this in Rockford. I’m not a fan of it. To me you have to coach the team you have not the one you wish you had. And Colliton’s penchant for moving players in and out, different positions, doesn’t help.

some guys dropped tonight and I thought we might have a shot at em, but they are off the board now. interested to see who we get with this pick...
funny that two years in a row now a division rival has taken a goalie that I wanted us to get in the first round...

Chibrikov is on the board, Raty…couple of others that fell. We could still get something good here. I don’t really think they take the little Dach here. Maybe if they still had their second.

so glad we traded our first rounder next year when we probably would have had a lotto pick in a loaded draft...

Allan played in Humboldt in his early teens and he sounds like your "typical" Saskatchewan born WHL dman, tough to play against.
6'2" just under 200lbs at 18 is a good sized dman, plus he's known for his skating and how he thinks the game.
Hopefully Dach is available with the Hawks first pick on day 2.

He probably would've been there with the 2nd pick on day 2 but maybe they seen something's in his limited games and interview. I don't mind this pick.

Everyone in the scouting department, with maybe the exception of the Euro guys, and Kelly, should be under review as well. Too many comfortable people in those spots.

bad day for europe in round 1 (just 7 picks total) but good day for sweden (6 picks total).
only 4 countries made up all of the first round picks which seems kind've odd. canada (17), US (7). sweden (6), and russia (1)

Gold medal game vs Russia, he's known for being a heavy hitter and that's a great example. Nice to see them going to the WHL for a Dman.

I don't mind the pick either.... at 62... to reach now is just asinine. they would've been better off taking a swing at a guy like Raty and hoping he pans out and then likely still getting their man in the 2nd. just the end to an incredibly frustrating day as a 'hawks fan. I'll have to check out the ole traveling hat shrine I have tomorrow to remind me of the good times...
