Jones is a day to day thing for me. one day, I think "I like that guy. he is a good d-man, I'm glad we have a guy like that on the team." but then the next day, "man, we would have had a solid player last summer and, without S Jones on the team, we probably are looking at another solid top 10 pick (maybe better) this year. plus we have some guys we could move and add more picks to expedite things..."

I like your latter day. But you’re not a saint! I think it’s quite evident this team needs to be rebuilt bad. Next year 19/88 will be another year older and another year on the wrong side of 30. They just can’t lead a team like they did 6 years ago. Still very effective players, but not that upper echelon anymore. Relying on Dach and Hagel, Kubalik, Entwhistle, etc aren’t going to be the top dogs we want. Or need. The draft is the only way out of this. We need too 5 picks. And not one of them, many of them. The wings haven’t had a top 3 pick and their team looks rather rebuilt. Or well on their way. Hawks could be there too. Dcat is a lot like Larkin. Both play similar, and how that Larkin isn’t on a bottom feeder, he’s scoring a shit ton. And leading. I say keep Dcat, and rebuild. He’ll be Larkins age when we come out of this. 27/28!!!

Only if the team was rebuilding which it wasn't or they don't bring in a 7M GT,the FO really had no stomach for the rebuild they announced the year before. I doubt the old man is gonna go for a half full barn a rebuild can cause either. Drafting a #1 D-Man is a crap shoot and acquiring one through trade or FA is always expensive. Who even makes those picks now v?

Man, it's just me and my wife for Christmas and nothing much going on. I REALLY wish there was some hockey to watch. Dammit! There is! Make sure to catch the WJC. The future is on display. Literally. Last night I watched Canada vs Russia. Matty Mishkov and Connor Bedard put on a show. Mishkov with 2 and Bedard with one. Now. That’s not a great game for a 19 year old. But those two are 16 and won’t be drafted till 2023. It’s like Ovechkin and Crosby in the same draft. 16 year olds rarely play in the WJC. Rarely. Last one for Canada was McDavid. There’s a ton of talent in this tourney. Well worth watching. Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to you Tater!!!

After 30 games the Hawks are 7th in their division and it’s hard to see that changing over the rest of the season. All of the 6 teams ahead of them have more talent than they do. If the game at Nashville takes place we’ll see whether anything has changed. Not really the game you want when you’re struggling to score.

Give a young guy a chance!

I've mentioned this a couple times but on top of playing Gus, he's now on the #1 PP unit which makes zero sense and the shorty vs the Flames is why he shouldn't be there...or even playing. Guys like Mitchell, Beaudin, Regula, and even Galvas deserve playing time over a late 20's, 1 good season (offensively), waste of a roster spot, guy who shouldn't be part of the future. Yet here he is 🤦♂️

a little bit about the x's and o's of the forecheck which is apparently the worst in the league.
the article ends speculating if crawford's fury will make a difference. we'll see next game i guess...

Good. Their forecheck sucks and I bitch about it in just about every game thread. Not really surprised to see that it’s effectiveness is league worst. In this day and age I almost expect Crawford to get a call from the HR department.

Good on Crawford for calling out a major problem. Probably should have been done a couple months ago.

Good on Crawford for calling out a major problem. Probably should have been done a couple months ago. The same problem that has been called out for the last 6 years. This team can't forecheck or back check. And the 2 or 3 that try are not going to make a difference. Just mannequins wearing an original 6 team sweater.

Maybe get their wives/GF to do that at home too.

Yeah, seems like that should have happened a while ago,. And, to me, maybe I'm wrong, but forechecking is one of the things they should have been developing from basic hockey skills, especially being NHL ers,

What we’re actually seeing is years and years of neglect throughout the entire org. The farm has been abysmal for the last decade. Nothing was done. Still isn’t being done. The Hawks need many areas fixed. The kids they’ve put on the big club haven’t developed one bit. They’ve just gotten older and a bit more experienced.
Now the only way to win now is to trap and try and limit scoring chances. Well, that works, but it also limits your scoring chances. It’s also a horrible way to develop kids. The Hawks need to find a path. And quick. If it’s going to be a Jacques Lemere type system of defensive death. No one will want to play here. Coaches that implement that style are not very good and they never win anything.
So the org needs to find a path. Hopefully like Colorado or Florida. Suffer through a few years but set everyone in the org in motion. Even if the guys won’t make the NHL, if they know the systems, on and off the ice. It’s easier to get the kids we need there faster.
To me, it seems like a lot of shit throwing at the wall. Less and less seems to be sticking. So whomever they hire, better have a solid plan!!!

The worst part is, there has been suffering for a few years already, but no steps in the right direction and no good draft picks ahead.

The worst part is, there has been suffering for a few years already, but no steps in the right direction and no good draft picks ahead. I feel the worst thing you can do is rebuild and not even know you’re rebuilding. Which is exactly where the team is today. The problem is, no team can just a few high picks and deem the rebuild over. As MVR has stated. The team needs to load up for a few years on a ton of picks. Sign free agents to one year deals and trade them at the deadline. Do that for 3 years. Trade away everything of value and load up the cupboards. Also as you’ve stated. There’s been a few years of suffering and absolutely nothing to show for it. So I fear they think they’re closer than they appear, like a mirror. But this mirror image is not lying. The way KD just explained things. About only 19-88-4 are the only untouchables. I think that’s backwards. And will hurt the team for a decade before they realize they f****** up, and a full rebuild is in order. Let’s be honest. No one wants a full rebuild. But if done properly when you have assets like the Hawks do right now. I feel they could have the cupboards full in the next 2 years. Minimal suffering instead of fading away!!!

To whome it applies. Some of those complaining of lack of forechecking and backchecking are willing to give Strome a pass because of his chemistry with DeBrincat. They say don't put Strome on the third line because he cannot check. "LEARN!!!" You learn by doing. It is something JT prides himself in (why not Strome) something he considers a part of his responsibility as a center. The team was faster or quicker after the players held the players only meeting. They gave some pretty good teams a hard time. Is it just a coincidence that when JT went down the team lost focus and reverted to pre-meeting form.

The effort has been inconsistent and the forecheck has been a joke for years, you can yell at em all you want (like that makes a difference) but the team just isn't very good.....they might even be overachieving to be honest. Khaira was the ONLY big, physical forward coming into the season but he was also coming off serious concussion issues that have worsened and his talent level is sub-par/bottom-six w/o a doubt. JT's our next biggest forward @201lbs,the team hasn't shown interest in a big, tough, talented winger or any type of power forward for a LONG time.....'we'll add size later'........right? Do opposing D-men EVER have to look over their shoulders?
It's been a brewin' for some time like T said but go back and look at the $$$ and assets spent in the summer of '19' and just think what coulda been.
