Rocky didn't like hearing Kyle Beach's name lol yeah...twice now. : ) rocky could have handled it better but like it says below the video on YT...the town hall's about "the greater vision of the organization moving forward." i don't think it was the proper venue for that line of questioning from lazerus and that other guy. jmho. but yeah...rocky took it a bit way too far, making for an uncomfortable moment or 2. |

the whole thing (minus rocky's outbursts) was pretty much what i expected, likely what many expected.
it was all pretty much scripted fluff but anyways, they said the right things but what else could they say?
faulkner and wirtz junior are both good speakers i thought.
anyways....rocky's outbursts are at 34 minutes and 41 minutes in.

Those questions were set up from the ladies tees for him. An underhand pitch if you will. Instead of swinging and hitting a home run, he argued the call. And there was nothing wrong with the question. Also it wasn’t aimed at him. He looked like an old curmudgeon that looks like he doesn’t have much time. It’s tough to come back from that. He’s gonna have to call those two reporters personally and apologize and give them each an interview and answer them respectfully. It would be a start. Then he should step back and let his kid run this thing. He’s an old idiot who got lucky that the team was good and looking up when he took over. He clearly didn’t do much if he “didn’t know”. I know hind sight is 20-20. But look back and add it up. He only had about a 7-8 year decent tenure. Which is also tainted. Your true colours will show when times are tough. He just showed his. I like the ol saying “tough times don’t last, tough people do”. The last Wirtz was nothing but tough times. The same will be here. He just got luck in a transition period. Let’s all just hope his son is the one who breaks the mold!!! |

If Rocky,who inherited a team that was on the cusp of greatness that he had NOTHING to do with can just decide not to answer any questions about the scandal or say "it's none of your business".....WOW.....he has complete cover from the league. I'm gonna assume Rocky was at the 'townhall' (who does that?)LOL,at his insistence,why not let 'Prince Daniel' and the Pres of business opps display their overwhelming hockey knowledge. I though Rocky was gonna call the reporter 'nasty' there for a minute.
I didn't catch any of the rest of the 'townhowl'...LOL but if they didn't expect VERY difficult questions,why not just do a short press conference. I thought the Beach question was actually a 'softball','what have you done to prevent this from happening in the future?' is a chance to say what you've done to address the issue and Rockey could have reminded everyone it was a one-time event that happened 11 1/2 years ago but he basically said you have no right to ask a privileged,powerful guy like me that question when he said "it's none of your business". The league should come out today with a big fine for such calloused behavior but I doubt it......he has cover.
Like I said in another post,the 'townhowl' was their idea and they're always an open forum with questions coming hot n heavy,how was Rocky so ill prepared for a question that was so easy to handle? 'We've made systemic changes' or 'We've revamped our entire HR dept and process' or 'our top execs have been through extensive training and it could never happen again'.....easy peasy. If the question was handled properly,he could have also reminded everyone it was a long time ago and nothing like it has ever happened before or since like I said and he'd have the right to remind people of that.......but he went with "none of your business" instead!
The next 'townhowl' is scheduled for the first day Hell freezes over.

Danny,as I'll call him for now(LOL) since he does come across as intelligent and well spoken,he might end up being a good CEO but that will depend on how the team performs going forward IMO. Jamie Faulkner,ditto to a large degree,she might also be a good Pres of Business opps IF she has a quality product to sell. We heard about guaranteed give aways,no more preseason games mandatory and a better all-around off-ice experience and to be fair,that's her expertise and I wish her well. She made sure NOT to answer the 'price reduction' question......she was probably afraid Rocky'd give her a 'backhand' if she did!LOL! Do either of these smart,young people succeed w/o a fully staffed,experienced and talented dept of hockey opps.....which should my ALL MEANS include a president of it. Rocky,WTflyingF? That was the first time I heard the second back n forth with the Trib reporter and it was worse than the one with Lazerus to be honest. He had EVERY right to remind Rocky about the promise of transparency during the presser that reminded everyone he knew nothing. "Do I ask you how your paper runs it's sports department?" is a massive deflection and one beneath an owner of an original six team. I actually felt compassion for Danny after the first outburst and being shushed like a child but the look on his face after the second outburst and Rocky saying how he plans to 'be around'. "It's groundhog's day,I came outta the bunker" drew exactly zero laughs and was a weird thing to say as far as I'm concerned but it fit the mood I guess. Maybe Rocky needs the 'Person,woman,man,camera,TV' test in the near future. I would have loved a question that asked,'is the Org willing to have a few bad years record-wise that could adversely affect attendance in order to rebuild properly?' but you woulda just got yelled at by Rocky so what's the point of any real question......of which there were few. Danny WAS asked about the prospect of a rebuild and side-stepped it........didn't want to be shushed again? Edzo did a good job and I'm happy to see him feeling well! I'd still be more comfortable with him at the helm than all the young geniuses in the room put together and they introduced a bunch of new ones......all on the business side! The most important side to the family......make NO mistake! This is without a doubt the most important issue to us Hawk fans,it will define the future of the team for years and years to come! Can KD or another candidate who isn't even employed by another club at the moment possibly succeed without an experienced President of hockey opps to help guide the direction of the team and advise on major player decisions? |

I'll try to get back to the topic of this thread------the next GM and President. While important positions to fill, success won't be necessarily guaranteed, even if filled well. Look at the Red Wings, who have decent guys at GM and Prez. They are currently in their 6th straight year of sucking. The Hawks will go long beyond 6 years before their sucking count ends.

Everyone loved Rocky when he took over because he started televising games but considering who his dad was, Rocky was an upgrade. But just looking at him and John Mcdonnuts eyes I could tell they weren't good people. Now that the franchise is in a downward spiral Rocky's true colors are showing. Listening to Danny I actually don't mind him, hopefully his dad just fades away and lets Danny take over and he gets real hockey minds in the front office. Having 3 Hawks legends in Hoss, Sharp, and Eddzo will help. |

If the 'hawks are going to go through a number of bad years while they try to rebuild things up from essentially scratch, but the big goal is trying to get those pieces to build another contender, I'm okay with it. What I'm not okay with is the stagnation that has been happening since ~2018, if not ~2016 for trying to put one more team together for the cup-winning core when said core was no longer good enough to drive a team to within reach of a cup. As long as the new brass fully embraces trying to move to the next era of the 'hawks rather than trying to drag the previous era along, I'm okay with it even if it's not 100% successful. There are 31 other teams trying to do the same thing and not all of them get lucky. |

I don't know if Toews/Kane would have been willing to be traded since 2018, but my guess is that the idea was never discussed because Bowman always thought he was smart enough to put a Cup team together using those two guys and whoever else he could obtain (Fleury, Jones). But, by doing that, he blew the chance to rebuild team and approach success by another method. Now, in my opinion, they are stuck in no man's land with no transmission of their SOS signals and little chance of getting out of their hole for a long time. There are just too many moves that have to go just right to accomplish that and the odds are very long against that happening. |
