I think with all the adversity the Panthers have gone through over the past couple years. And there’s a lot. I think it’s their Cup to lose. They’re just loaded and ready to rock. Getting back Ekblad is huge. Getting Giroux is huge. Getting Chiarot is huge. Plus look at guys like Duclair, Reinhart and Bennet. That’s absolute depth right there. I’m betting that they go the distance. I just haven’t see a team like that since 2010!!! If season ended today they would play in first round Washington, with Boston, Pens & Bolts still possible, not going to be easy as all of those teams have won cups, some more recent and obviously Bolts two time defending champs. I agree Ekland is huge and the others you mention will help. Will see if Bob can overcome some past playoff failures. Since Hawks are not playing and I love watching playoff hockey it is one of the teams I will be following and rooting for along with the Canes. I said the Cats can win the cup with either GT IF Ekblad is back and healthy.......I stand behind that.....he's THAT good. Still 4th in team scoring from the back end even though he's missed 15 games and that +38 is for real, his net front play and penalty killing might have got the Cats passed the Bolts in their 1st round slug-fest last year too. The thing is,they've been shutting teams down w/o their Norris candidate's play in his own end,PK's been good w/o one of their best PK'ers and the PP remains strong w/o his 20 PP points. Adding Chariot is big but getting a healthy Ekblad back is HUGE. Adding Giroux is dam near unfair!

Cats see a home back-back against the Leafs and Bolts this weekend and travel to Boston Tuesday.....those three oughta get their attention and test the streak before they finish up in Ott and Mtl.

Another phenomenal game by the Panthers against the Leafs. Playoff intensity throughout. Leafs go up 2 -0, Panthers claw back to tie it and send it to OT, where the Panthers once again win in OT, 3 - 2, setting a franchise record with their 13th straight win. They also broke the NHL record with their 13th OT win.
Sunday should be another high intensity game vs Tampa. Now with a 4 point lead over Colorado for the Presidents trophy. This team is so much fun to watch.

useless stat o' the day.
apparently claude giroux is the first nhler to be part of a 13 game winless streak and a 13 game winning streak in the same season.

Panthers 13 game win streak came to an end, but it's the way it did, and who it was against, that concerns me.
Tampa scoring 8 goals after giving up 9 in an earlier game was 1 statement. The other was the Stanley Cup Champions putting some doubt in the Panthers heads.
This rivalry is very similar to the Hawks/Wings where the Hawks needed to get over the hump against Detroit before they could win their Cups. Now it's the Panthers turn to get over that hump if they face each other in the playoffs.

I have a hard time seeing the loafs beating the bolts unless Vasilevskiy has a bad series, so the cats are going to have to beat those guys in the division finals. if they do, it'll likely propel them through the ECF and maybe even to the Cup.

I REALLY hope we get an Avs/Panthers Final. that would be FUN.

Gustav Forsling scores his 10th last night albeit in a loss. His 10 goals would be double the closet Hawk Dmen. He also has 37 total points which would only trail Seth Jones who has considerably more ice time. His 37 total would rank 5th on the Hawks tied with Toews.

Panthers sit 6 of their 8 leading scorers and still end up winning 4 - 0 over Ottawa. And with Colorado losing in a shootout, they win the Presidents trophy for the first time in team history. It has been an amazing season to watch.
1 game left then let the playoffs begin

It's nice to see guys put out AFTER they get a deal,Denault went out and had a career year himself AFTER signing a deal and Hartman 34/64 for 1.7M for two more's a pretty good value too.

Let the playoffs begin! Panthers in 4, 5, 5, 6!!! Boston and Tampa both looking to lose tonight so they can be the wild card in the Metro division? I hope Boston loses so Tampa doesn't get yet another break...

glad Tampa will be in their own divisional bracket. I expect them to beat the loafs, setting up a HUGE series with the cats.
winner of that series wins the east, no doubt in my mind.
Washington is going to get waxed by Florida, barring a goaltending miracle/nightmare...

Let the playoffs begin! Panthers in 4, 5, 5, 6!!! I'm gonna disagree on your second round prediction. that series will be a war, like us vs the wangs in 2013. once the cats get over that hump, they'll be tough to stop. or Toronto can do us all a favor and eliminate tampa... personally I hope Tampa wins a round and puts some more miles on their wheels so maybe next season they fall off in a big way...

I been scouring the inter-net as much as my limited abilities allow and come up with almost nothin' on Ekblad's progress. The Panther's own site hasn't done a 'Practice notebook' since 4-11 when 'Bruno' said he was "on schedule" and I saw an article yesterday that said "during the 1st round". If anybody's heard anything else, please share. He's a BIG TIME,difference maker and Chairot's addition makes Fla's D unit one of the very best w/Ekblad.

I seen a TON of hate for the cats online, as far as playoff picks go. a lot of people don't have much faith in them, and I can't blame them considering Bob's playoff resume and Florida's defensive numbers.
that being said, I doubt most have seen them play and are just going by numbers. personally, I think they should probably be the favorite in the east, but I can also see numerous ways for them to lose. I really think they'll cruise to the Final if they beat Tampa. if they draw Toronto, they won't get that extra boost of beating their rival the previous round, so maybe the metro winner gives them a harder time. we will see soon enough.

If Florida doesn't start their 3rd string GT and sit a bunch of guys, they obviously don't give up TEN to the Habs(outshot em 39-37) and finish in the top ten in GA's. Forsling's continued improvement, the addition of Chairot and most importantly, the return of a healthy Ekblad will be a great compliment to a high scoring offense. Ekblad's a big time, difference maker and would have been in last year's 7gm cage match too,but like v said,a lotta people don't see him play.
