...and that Karpo rant needed to be said. But, I'm a rat bastard that way. A buddy of mine also said Troy Murray on radio lit into the 2017 squad after they shat the bed in Nashville. I didn't hear it, but I heard it was epic. Stuff like that needs to happen a bit more in my opinion, not for little mistakes, but for the big ones. Unlike Crawford, every time Toews, Kane, Jones, etc. makes a mistake, a red light doesn't come on and 10-20k fans jeer or boo. Anyhow, just in case I'm not on, Happy Chanukwannzaramamas to you and everyone else here who I engage with in some smart hockey dialogue--or whatever you all celebrate! Fans are fickle and have their favorites who they give a pass to. I know I let some of 88's half hearted D zone play ride because I like his overall game. And national media broadcasters really play favorites and hop on bandwagons to a sickening extent. Of course we are. Sometimes a player makes up for a shortcoming like Kane's O vs. his D. Sometimes they don't. Sometimes a player makes a brutal mistake and then makes up for it giving us no real time to blast them (see also Hossa, Nashville, 2010--even though Kane haled save his bacon...) I mean, what fun is being a fan if we can't sit here behind a computer or a phone and critique guys who perform at a level none of us ever did?

I know now there are some reporters on the hawks payroll (Charlie) and others that are getting more access because they are playing nice now. Most on this site see most games and have a good understanding what is going on. The Corry situation was always a little crazy I think one national broadcast and the casual fan just repeated it the rest of his career always left me baffled. When all on the team said he should have won the Conn.

There is a huge difference of course between being a fan of a sport and making a living on it as an employee.
We here on the boards all spend far too much of our time thinking and talking about what is happening with our team. But we can and do walk away. The sport never consumes us.
Imagine never being able to leave the rink. After awhile, you'd feel trapped. Even the biggest hockey fan would eventually feel resentful and disillusioned. Your feelings about the sport and the participants in it would inevitably turn. When something becomes a "job," it loses something.
The seasoned beat reporter stuck in his job finds ways to cut corners. He stops caring, and he begins to mail it in. When he writes a story, he needs a reliable quote - easy fill to round off the edges. He knows he must stay on the good side of the core players who feed him these bits, especially with the bottom feeder teams. The core players scratch the beat reporter's back, and he reciprocates because the story no longer really matters to mim.
My great hero as a kid, Rod Stewart, made three or four definitive rock albums in the early 1970s - some of them true works of art. Eventually, however, he got bored. He realized he could fill an album with uninspired drivel and still peddle a couple of million albums every other year. I think this cynicism happens to most of us as we get closer to our career finish line. Without incentives to drive us, at some point we no longer care.

When does this transition to cynic happen? My guess is that it occurs at about the time the beat reporter realizes he will never leave the beat.
Ben Pope presently is the best of the local guys in my view. He is still young. There is a chance he transitions to something else. Most of the older guys are lifers now.

And on the other hand,no player should be immune from legitimate criticism. The days of a Royko or Holtzman lettin' loose on a high-paid,under performing player or the Org that signed/traded for the player with impunity are long gone my friend. Could any on-air announcer pull a 'Harry Carey-like' "he's hittin' .200....he weighs more than that" or "That wouldn't be a HR in a phonebooth" (LOL) when referring to a hometown player? Evan a 'Pat Foley-like' Karpovtsev rant would probably be troublesome nowadays. ...and that Karpo rant needed to be said. But, I'm a rat bastard that way. A buddy of mine also said Troy Murray on radio lit into the 2017 squad after they shat the bed in Nashville. I didn't hear it, but I heard it was epic. so...for example, i guess for every 60 minutes of ice time the toews' line plays, they allow 1.24 more goals than they score and kane's line allows .75 goals more than they score.
these advanced analytics can be a bit misleading. a lot of the numbers have to do with goaltending and defensemen, as well as depth on all 4 lines. and to call this list "the worst forward lines" is b.s., i'd call them the forward lines with the worst numbers.
i guess you could take some solace in the fact that there are some pretty good lines on this list.

Is Zellweger the next Seth Jones? …at least they won’t own him for a decade but what a haul for Everett.

On one side, he reminds me of a young Keith…….. but with his Chinese fire drill. Hopefully he ends up turning out like him. But that may be way too much to give up for Zellweger. That’s a lot!!!

if it was anyone else besides elliotte friedman, i wouldn't bother posting. or if it was eklund reporting it, i might post it in the "jokes" section here. friedman admits it's total speculation on his part but his theory is that patrick kane's done playing for the year, he's going to sign a 1 year extension, get his injury "cleaned up", come back next season all rehabbed and ready to go...and things resume as this season where kane is shopped around (but with conceivably a higher asking price). it starts at 2:20 minutes in and the talk lasts about 4 minutes. something to listen to on a slow day. also, at 18:30 minutes in he talks about reichel's goal. interesting comment there as well. www.sportsnet.ca/podcasts/32-thoughts/edit: they talk quite a bit about trades in the CHL and about bedard, zellweger among others that a few here will find interesting because it's all about many current or recent discussions here. it all starts about 39:40 in.

But then again what do I know? I always liked AZ's Kachina jerseys and apparently not many people do.

Good for Scott Foster. I hope they sign him to a league minimum 8 year deal and let him help out around the office and do some stuff. He can be the Ebug that sticks around a while. And no it won’t hurt the Hawks cap because he can technically go to the farm and not count.
Yes I’m joking. Or Am I? Ya I am. But not really!!!

KD might fear for his job. After all, Scott Foster has the same qualifications for the GM job that the previous GM had. </sarc>

I meant that are both accountants by trade. I believe KD is analytics. None the same as a hockey mind, true, but Scott Foster is an accountant just like Bowman, although foster does have more hockey experience.

where to put this? cubs? hockey history? it happened at a recent blackhawk's game so here it shall go. i can't find any info about fergie jenkins trying out for the blues like the video says, but according to the article below, he did play junior B in ontario (defenseman) and played against the likes of the wayne and chico maki, pat stapleton, derek sanderson among others. other nuggets from the article that surprised me were he never started pitching until 16 and in a couple of off seasons from the cubs he played for the harlem globetrotters. first canadian inducted in the baseball HOF. www.nhl.com/news/love-of-hockey-still-runs-deep-for-jenkins/c-400639not too shabby for an 80 year old.

The girl has skills no doubt, and some Michkov/Bedard confidence as well I think! If women’s international hockey is going to grow then talent like this has to start to elevate their teams to be able to compete with the only two real contenders at the moment.

Did anyone even know the Women’s U18’s are underway right now in Sweden? I didn’t. Just these Nela highlights led me to look it up. Might be getting closer down the road, Canada is in the final after beating Finland in OT and will play the home country Swedes who beat the U.S. Maybe parity might be just a few years away. Oh, this Nela appears to be the phenom of the tourney, most goals and points at just 14 years of age.

The weekend before Christmas back in '12',had Fergie and Pierre Pilote doing a joint book signing at a sports memorabilia store in Yorktown mall and I anticipated a line to get 'Pete's' signature on a Hawks HoF picture I had, along with Bobby,Stan,Tony and Denny also on it and 'Pete' was the last sig I needed to complete it. I guess the shoppers were too preoccupied to bother with the two old dudes and the Hawks were two years removed from their 1st cup in 49 years so there was no line. Just me and a few other mostly curiosity seekers. I musta chatted the two HoF'ers up for a half hour,'Pete' signed a few things for me and I bought a few of both of their books.........$10 signed......how could I not after such a wonderful experience. They both remarked how very similar and very different their beginnings in sports really were,'Fergie' started as a hockey player and was very good at it before picking-up BB in his mid-teens becoming a legend and 'Pete' was one hell of a BB player before picking-up hockey in his mid-teens and also becoming a legend at it.......one that actually change the way the position was played. Two outstanding Canadian gentlemen as well! edit: I asked 'Pete' why 'Mr Goalie' wasn't in my picture of Hawks living HoF'ers and he said "because he doesn't leave his farm",he also said "good luck gettin' that signature if he was". NO bigger legend than the 'IRONMAN' and Glen Hall also changed the way his position was played.

I’ve never met Fergie. He’s a solid Chatham guy. He’s the uncle to a friend of mine. I never believed her. But, her dad confirmed it.
I’m sure he’s a great guy. That’s what his family says!!!
