silly question which i might as well plunk here.
i watched this video and it got me to thinking. does every nhl rink run 2 zambonis between periods?
thnx in advance.
i suppose it would make sense, having a spare working zamboni. i mean what can go wrong with a zamboni? flat tire?

At some point they went from one to two of them - maybe at the same time when they started to have the crews come out and shovel the ice.

I'm not sure if they need to run 2 zamboni machines at the same time, but surely they need to have 2 zamboni drivers available in case one of them would be used as a nhl goalie during a game. And win it... and against Toronto...

happy 52nd birthday to tony amonte.
chicago seemed to have more than their share of good american players here in amonte's era. him, roenick, chelios, gary suter to name a few. no doubt i'm forgetting some.
played for 5 nhl teams but his 627 regular season games in chicago were the most by far. 268g, 273a for 541 points in his time with the blackhawks. in his 8 full seasons in chicago he missed just 2 games. in fact, in his 15 nhl seasons he missed more than 3 games in a season just once.

and for today's useless trivia...
in their team history, 64 goalies have played for the canucks. bannerman is the only one to allow zero goals. (while facing at least 1 shot) he played one period and stopped all 7 he faced. (who'd he think he was...an accountant?)
he's 9th all time in chicago in games played with 288 and 6th in wins with 116. .880 and 3.84 were his chicago numbers. according to wikipedia he still lives and works in chicago.

tony did not like getting scored on, whether it was his brother or not.

tony did not like getting scored on, whether it was his brother or not. Seemed like Phil used to score a hat trick every game against Tony O.

I forgot about that. Hossa had over 1300 regular season games, 205 in the playoffs, and was a big part of 3 Cups, far better career than Tony. And Hossa had more points in the playoffs than Amonte played, so what the f*ck does he know.

Seemed like Phil used to score a hat trick every game against Tony O. actually, according to this site, phil scored on brother tony 25 times but only one hattrick. (at least in the regular season) he did score 2 goals five different times (including tony's first nhl start with montreal). https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/ha4joq/nhl_players_who_scored_against_their_goalie/ i wouldn't normally quote a reddit source but surprisingly i couldn't find another one. it does look like it might be a legit article but no promises. edit: seems the linky no worky but you can copy and paste it into the address bar.

If I recall the rivalry between the brothers goes back to their pond hockey days as kids - which is probably the case for other groups of brothers although organized hockey is so much more prevalent these days for even the youngest players.

It does seem like ancient history - between all the changes and then Covid has added a few twists too.

sad to hear that borje salming has been diagnosed with ALS at 71.
i can't imagine anyone not wanting a player like him on their team.
he was as tough as they come and under rated imo.

Sad news, he was one of the first to come over the Atlantic and teams try to rough him up, ultimately, he held up and had a very good career.

I knew he'd got in a wee bit of trouble with the league but wikipedia had to refresh my memory. In 1986 he gave an interview saying he'd used cocaine but not for 5 or 6 years. The league suspended him for a !!full season!! but later reduced it to 8 games. Still a pretty stiff sentence for something 6 years in the past and admitted by the player himself.

One hell of a player - a royal pain in the rear to play against I am sure. A different look here with the glasses and innocent schoolboy look. I remember pictures of him grinning from ear to ear and missing most of his front teeth.

I must say I am skeptical of that number. 95 maybe but 115 with 18,000 people in there just seems like an exaggeration. There would have been multiple people dying plus the players skating with uniforms on etc. - just doesn't seem feasible.

after robinson and orr...
bourque +527 gretzky +520 bobby clarke +507
funny....orr achieved his number in just 657 career games while robinson had 1384 games to get his milestone.
the worst +/- was a defenseman named bob stewart who ended his career at -257.
the worst notable blackhawk was ivan boldirev at -197, in his 14 seasons he was only a plus player 4 times. 5 seasons as a hawk were the most he played with any one team and he did play on a couple expansion teams.
the best was mikita at +329. b. hull next at +249, then hoss at +245. chelios finished +351 but played more games with the wings than chicago.
current nhlers have marchand +263 and bergeron at +254 are both in the top 50 all time.
the current nhler with the worst +/- is kessel at -148.
