sad we lost him but glad we had him. i wonder what this team would look like if he was still playing? i've very little doubt he could've played to 40 at least. what a player he was.

When Hossa was added that gave the Hawks 2 top lines and 2 defensive lines. Everything started to gel together. And the rest was history.

December 10, 1954 – The NHL held a governors meeting to discuss ways of assisting the last-place Black Hawks. They eventually decided on “selling” Toronto’s Harry Watson and Montreal’s Ed Litzenberger to Chicago. It ended up actually being pretty helpful, as Litzenberger ended up winning the Calder trophy that year by scoring 40 points in 44 games, good for second on the team (the leader was George Sullivan with 61).They still finished last of the six teams though, putting up 43 points in 70 games (-74 goal differential)…which was actually an improvement from the previous year, when they had just 31 points and a -109 goal differential. Today, teams have their own way of helping themselves out, and it’s called “tanking.”

Pilote's last year as a hawk was '67/68. I've said before i've been a hawk's fan since '67 but for the life of me i don't remember him sadly. So i'll have to amend my fandom starting in the '68/69 season i guess. Anyways...it was a great DOB.

my favorite hawk of all time.
back in the day, inhaling the boxscores of the latest hawk's game the day before...from the brandon sun which was usually tossed somewhere in the vicinity around the end of our lane. it was always me that went out to fetch it (usually it was there when i got off the school bus but if it wasn't i'd wait) a day after a hawk's game, unwrapping the small wrapper with our address on it like it was a christmas present. if i was lucky, CKX in brandon or CKY in winnipeg (winnipeg was fuzzy with the rabbit ears)...i could see the hi-lites of the odd game, or maybe a half dozen times a year watch them in hockey night in canada.
i'm so appreciative to be able to watch the games now, even farther away than it was than i was a kid with just a few clicks.
anyways....what i meant to say at the start was that whenever tony pitched a shutout i loved it. i think back then i wished a vezina for him more than a cup for the team. didn't know any better. : )

They waxed the Edmonton Oilers, 5-1, outshooting them 37-18, including 16-1 in the second period of a truculent game. Joe Murphy scored the first Blackhawks' goal at the United Center, assisted on a second period power play at 11:33 by Chris Chelios and Jeremy Roenick. It was Roenick who scored the last Blackhawks' goal at the Stadium in an April playoff victory.
Keith Carney made it 2-0 and Chelios added a powerplay goal for a 3-0 bulge. In the third period, Jeff Shantz tallied at 27 seconds, followed shortly by a Bernie Nicholls shorthanded score. At this point, the Blackhawks chased Bill Ranford, a highly-respected goalie and 1990 Conn Smythe Trophy recipient. Ed Belfour, a future Hall of Famer, was the winning netminder.

my man tony esposito was known for "bending the rules" to get an edge. i wouldn't doubt he snuck into the stadium one night with and oxy/acetylene set, a grinder, an arc welder and some red spray paint.

He scored with a few seconds left after the Hawks pulled their goalie. Troy Murray covered him like a blanket that game. Wayne still says one of the toughest guys he ever played against was TM.

I've been there at least over 100 times dating back to the 70's. so you don't recommend it then. : ) i had a feeling you might be one of the first to respond. i'd go if they were serving turtle head gruel with a rat tail salad and stinkbug dressing, but just wondering....is the food really good? thnx in advance for the info.

Your typical Chicago greasy spoon for breakfast/lunch. bacon, sausage, ham and eggs, omelette, pancakes, toast. Across the street from Johnny's Icehouse and Hawk players would stop in before morning practice.

I do like greasy spoons, though, so i always enjoyed myself there regardless
