go to the front of the net and good fantastically amazing things happen. nothing new said here, but bolland was on the ice for as many big goals as anyone. edit: wish i could watch replays of these classic hawks' playoff games like i know many of you good people from chicago and area that post here are. It is a nice break from the no hockey 'shakes' I've had.....I'll tell ya that. A LOT of hockey memories have been crammed into the aging brain pan over the last decade and there's always a thing or two that 'comes back' to a guy watching these games. Last night's game two of the Van series saw the hawks go down 0-2 after a home opining loss of 5-1......no problem. It also saw the move to forward for Big Buff after staring the first eight games at D,the Canucks were in for a shock, the Sharks were in for a sweep and Pronger was in for a heapin' helpin' of 'Sweet baby Ray's'! www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8uYdNCffdo&t=63s

Game three of the Van series.....WOO F'n HOO! The whole dam team played physical in that run,we know what Buff,Ladd,Eager,Burrish and Bolland offered but..... Seabs was a physical beast pre concussion issues. Hammer and Campbell ramped it up. Keith and Sopel too. Big Hoss was as physical as he ever was with us that run and JT was knockin' guys down too. Kopecky was as tough as nails. Sharp and Steeger were as edgy as ever. Madden was also a guy who'd do what's necessary and even Kane engaged...….TOTAL PACK MENTALITY! GREAT game from Niemi and even Jordan Hendry plastered a guy. It's was also Big Buff's first start up with K&T,it resulted in a Hattie and a taunting of the Nucks and the entire city!LOL! The big fella didn't have a goal coming into that one and only played 14 full games at forward yet he tied for team lead in PO goals and led in GWG's with FIVE! I believe game four's on tomorrow night, the Nucks were so incensed with Buff,he drew three calls in that one and it shoulda been five......look for the missed high stick from Biexa early and a blatant trip by Bobby Lou mid-game. JT gets the hattie in game four with Buff runnin'cover.
edit: GAME FOUR'S ON TONIGHT......RIGHT NOW AS A MATTER OF FACT.

It broke my heart more for Tony-O than myself or the team or the city when Lamaire's shot from center ice went in in game seven back in '71'. I watched a grainy closed circuit tv feed at my uncle's bar that didn't really show the fog that descended down unto the ice surface on that warm May evening. Jim West also knew better than to say much about it since it happened due to the old man's refusal to install a/c in the old barn. It was one of many crushing Chicago sports disappointments I endured during the 23 year city-wide championship drought...… www.chicagotribune.com/sports/blackhawks/ct-flashback-blackhawks-spt-0517-20150516-story.html

I wonder IF the Hawks had won their 2 cup appearances in 71 and 73 would anyone still be complaining about that trade?

al secord was a beauty. the regular season blackhawk's record for penalty minutes in a game belongs to chelios who racked up 51 minutes against the whalers back in '93. i woulda' bet on grimson being tops but he's not even top 4. mark janssens is 2nd with 47, probie 3rd with 44 and david koci is 4th with 42. the nhl record belongs to ex-hawk randy holt who was assessed 67 minutes for the kings back in '79. records.nhl.com/records/skater-records/penalties/most-penalty-minutes-one-game

I do remember that play. He can dangle. i tell you, my memories shot and i've only just turned 60. they've banned alcohol sales here from the 12th to at least the 17th so that might save me a few brain cells. : )

I remember hearing they’d signed this guy and all of us hoping he’d be the real deal but still having reservations but then when he got on the ice and started showing stuff like this and we realized what a find he was....wow.

seeing that makes me embarrassed that I was ok with him being traded.... well....at least we got something for him (unlike columbus) and i highly doubt we could have afforded him anyways. said it before....i honestly didn't think he'd be as good as he turned out. at least we had him for a while...

That McD is a real deal scoring machine.

That McD is a real deal scoring machine. The +/- stat is telling too. You can have games or stretches over a season where it doesn’t mean anything but when it’s over five seasons I think it has value. I expect Hedman, Bergeron, Marchand and others to be up there, but Panarin being a +99 in that span shows there was some diligence in his game as well.

this small debate about byfuglien coming/not coming back got me thinking of all the players we've signed over the years who were obviously past their prime. mostly $Bill just wanting arses in the seats i guess.
bobby orr comes to mind first. 26 games in 2 seasons, still over a point a game with 6g, 21 assists. that's the one i was praying hardest for. worth a try.
paul coffey played 10 games with just 4 assists.
we had a couple decent years out of phil housley. 137 games, 21g, 47a.
same with doug gilmour. 135 games, 38g, 74a.
peter bondra played just 37 games with just 5g, 9a.
wendel clark even worse with just 2g, 0a in 13 games.
michel goulet could be on this list i suppose. he was near the end of his career but we got parts of 5 decent seasons out of him. 276 games, 93g, 115a.
anyone i'm forgetting? 'cause i know i'm forgetting plenty here....
edit: how could i forget theo fleury? we got just 12 of his 455 career goals as he played the last 54 of his 1084 games in a hawks uni.

Great post. You could possibly add Khabibulin and Zhamnov? i was kind've leaning towards players whose careers were basically over by the time they rolled into chicago. although zhamnov's first 4 seasons with the jets were his best (well over a point/game average), the hawks got 7 (and a bit) full seasons of decent hockey out of him before he moved on. khabby was in the same boat. we had 4 decent seasons from him (202 games) and when he left he had 4 more seasons with the oilers. EDIT: so khabby would qualify because the last 4 games of his career were back in chicago where he appeared in 5 games in '13/'14. 168 minutes, 1-0-1, 5.00, .811, and his career was over after that. i totally forgot about his encore here.

Great post. You could possibly add Khabibulin and Zhamnov? andrew brunette's another one that comes to mind. over 1100 career reg. season games and 268 goals. we had him at the very end of his career for 78 games and 12 goals. and at about half speed.
