at least those teams made the playoffs.
for the record, we're currently sitting at 5 straight losses. last playoff win was 1461 days ago.

happy birthday Tony-0. can't believe he's 77. don't know what trophy that is he's holding there but it's a big bastard.
edit: a fine fellow from twitter told me that it's the macnaughton cup, the western collegiate hockey association championship trophy from tony's michigan tech huskies days.

on the topic of tony, as a 12 year old i was so pissed off that he never drew in on the deciding game 8 of the summit series in '72. his numbers (4 games, 3.25, .882) were way better than dryden's numbers (ended up 4 games, 4.75, .838) but coach sinden opted to go with #29. anyways, it all ended well. greatest sports moment for canada i'd have to say. we got this, the americans got "the miracle on ice." and when canada tied the game in the 3rd and the team had to wrestle alan eagleson from the clutches of the russian police and escort him to safety to the canadian bench, i can guarantee that was the first time on that "the finger" was broadcast on canadian television. : ) i doubt many are interested but this is the complete game 8. at one point in the series, canada was down 3-1-1 (ties were allowed - no o/t) and had to win the last 3 games in moscow to claim victory.
i gotta' say....i still get emotional watching this. i always will, i'm sure of that.

he got 1 of his 8 with the blackhawks. 2 assists, 3rd star, game 7 against the duckies in '15.

hawks we're in a dismal stretch of hockey for years before and years after but at least this gave the fans something to smile about. loved every ounce of the 5'7" 156 lb. steve sullivan. he actually led the league in shorties that 2000/01 season with 8. pretty good waiver pickup by the hawks in '99 (118g, 185a in 370 games for chicago). and pretty good for a ninth round pick as well.

nice story about orr's o/t game 4 cup winner. if you can stand the first couple of commercials at the start it's well worth the watch. www.cbc.ca/player/play/1734939715622there hasn't been a cup winning o/t goal since 2010.

usually not a fan of crappy cellphone video replays of goals, but this one of kane's 3rd in '09 against 7uongo really conveyed to me what it must be like in the U.C. when it's rockin'.
the kid's voice saying "no way...no way" just before kane backhands it home was pretty cool. those were the days.
here's all 3 goals of his that night.

wayne who? interesting wikipedia read. i wonder what the guy would've accomplished if he wasn't so damn homesick? 4g, 4a in 3 games with the whl's victoria cougars in his only action playing in north america. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Hand

His stats are impressive, especially fer a Scotsman! That’s a part of the game that many don’t realize, being homesick. I always tell my boy Patrick Kane’s story. How his parents got him to play for Detroit Honeybaked and he was 14 going to live with Pat Verbeek. He said he called his mom that night crying and that he wanted to come home at all costs. But he toughed it out and the rest is history.
I’ve had a similar thing happen. Chris Osgood runs little Caesars hockey and they’ve asked my son to join their team. At 8/9 I respectfully declined and said that maybe we’ll take advantage in the future if they’re still interested. I think it’s just too young for kids to take hockey that seriously. What if your kid plays there, and isn’t invited back? I think it could destroy their confidence and make them want to quit. Although he wouldn’t have to live there. There would be many times that I couldn’t be there and it could affect a kid very bad. So I understand that side of it!!!

not many players could dangle like pavel datsyuk. he makes a lot good of players look silly in this reel.
you don't normally see those kind of moves from a selke winner (won 3 straight years). hard to believe his best year scoring was just 32 goals, he likely could've doubled that if he just focused on his offensive game. same as hoss, he took a lot of pride in playing both ways i guess. he's still plying his trade over in the "K" at 41.

Datsyuk was definitely special. Unfortunately he and Zetterberg said that Babs probably shortened their careers. They both were generational talents and got run into the ground. They were the first to speak out about Babs. Good to see he’s still playing. I found it cool that even my son who’s 9 watches Datsyuk highlights over and over and over. He even does that ridiculous goal where he sells the shot and pulls back over to the right side and shoots on an empty net while the tender is swimming on the other side of the net. Datsyuk was one of a kind with those moves, almost like how Lemieux was unreal with his moves, very few are as good as them, young Jagr was something else. There’s a lot of different ways to score, and some are great at it, but very few make it look so pretty!!!

Last pick in ‘96, 252nd. I remember the media coverage up here when he came over. I just don’t believe there was any way to prepare him for that and the move over. Would have been quite a story if he’d stayed and succeeded, might have really kick started British hockey.

if you don't want to click 15 times to see them all, here's the list.
#15 jamal mayers 13 fights (with the blackhawks) #14 reid simpson 29 fights #13 wayne van dorp 25 fights #12 jim cummins 61 fights #11 ryan vandenbussche 76 fights #10 chris chelios 26 fights #9 john scott 12 fights #8 phil russell 37 fights #7 mike peluso 62 fights #6 dave manson 52 fights #5 stu grimson 55 fights #4 behn wilson 33 fights #3 keith magnuson 66 fights #2 al secord 92 fights #1 bob probert 96 fights
one of my all time favorite unsung players over the years was cam russell. i'm a bit disappointed he isn't on this list. more fights for the hawks (88) than all but 2 on the list and more games as a blackhawk (361) than all but 6. he reminded me of maggie. marginal talent, likely lost as many fights as he won but would come to the aid of a team mate without a second's hesitation.
i would have had him well inside the top 10 easily. just my my 2¢. lists like these always leave themselves open to scrutiny, so i'm just scrutinizing here. : )

Would have been quite a story if he’d stayed and succeeded, might have really kick started British hockey. being scottish born, he was likely sick of being referred to as british all the time and said "screw this....i'm outta' here." : ) but yeah....would've been a great story. edit: for shits and giggles, i went over the last 40 drafts (1979-2019) to see how many last overall picks had played in the nhl. i was quite surprised to see that 11 had played at least 1 nhl game. 6 of them played from 83 games to 1 game in their careers. 5 of them however had pretty good careers. andy brickley was an american drafted in 1980 by philly. he had 385 games in his nhl career. hans jonsson (swede) drafted in 1993 by the pens, 242 games. kim johnsson, (swede) was taken in 1994 by the wings. 739 nhl games. jonathan ericsson (swede) was drafted by the wings in 2002, 662 nhl games. patric hornqvist (swede) drafted by the preds in 2005. 718 nhl games. so. if you've got the last overall pick, go for the swede.....preferably one with a double "s" in his last name. also saw that jet's coach paul maurice was a last overall pick in 1985. this quote is from wiki. Maurice began the 1987–88 season playing with the Windsor Compuware Spitfires, and in 32 games, he had a goal and five points. As a result of his eye injury, he still has a blind spot and suffers fuzziness on the right side of his vision. When goaltender Pat Jablonski was sent down to the Spitfires by the NHL's St. Louis Blues, the club was forced to vacate a spot on the team to accommodate him. Singled out, Maurice was given the option by team owner Peter Karmanos to be traded or to become an assistant coach with team. Choosing the latter, Maurice retired from hockey and focused his career on coaching.so the eye injury led him into coaching. weird, wild stuff....

(of course) press got a few games in rockford and indy, mattsson had a season in the ohl and one in the ushl. looks like they're both playing back in europe. yeah....the wings had a knack alright.

no doubt. russell always fought fellow heavyweights. domi, probert, vukota, mcsorely, mccarty, o'donnell, kypreos, mackenzie, wilkinson, odjick, and tim hunter to name a few, (i'd forgotten how many enforcers used to be employed in the nhl.) he knew his job and he did it well. www.hockeyfights.com/players/647

it'd be great if you were a bit hungry i suppose. just whack a guy and go to the box and order a dog. : )
