It's hard to find a bad pic of old stosh. There was an old b+w one i'm sure i posted on the old boards of him sitting in the player's gate along the boards and his skates were on the ice. I think he was tying his skates. That's my favorite. I'll have another look for it later when i'm back home. edit: here's my fave. ↓ pretty sure i also posted this one on the old boards of stan's wedding day. bobby hull, glenn hall and mike ditka in the wedding party. stan looking more indian than cowboy. : ) flanked by bobby hull on his right and phil esposito and chico maki to his left. i wonder if that's the same shop hsbob bought his fedoras back in the day? : )

By all accounts back in the day,Ol' Stosh married a nice Bohemian girl from my old stompin' grounds(Berwyn/Cicero Il area) and it wasn't unheard of having Stan or Bobby get a shave or trim in a local Roosevelt rd barber shop(mid 60's). Sportsman's lounge further west on Roosevelt was a known hangout for many of the boys and they'd skate at Ridgeland commons not far away in Oak park on occasion. Quite a few of the old boys lived in the near west suburbs back then with a short drive down the 'Ike' to reach the old barn. I made my first home game in '64' @7 and I do remember men in suites and a few fedoras, dressing up was the order of the day back then and I still remember my mom buying me a new shirt for the occasion.

Since I was 29 years old when I finally got a chance to celebrate my first Chicago sports championship,I'd say a lotta gut-wrenching to go along with all that 'cool' my friend. Younger Chicago sports fans have seen titles from all five teams but they can't be too young or they won't remember SB XX,we're now five years removed from our last title with not much on the horizon.

i was actually at that game...
...and got right ripped after in the Cook County Saloon. keenan, pulford, skip thayer, one of the sutters among others happened to show up. what a night. one of the last bits of memory from that night had keenan up on the stage singing with the band.
the euphoria of an 11 game winning streak ended rather quickly in the finals.

Speaking of Blackhawk's history and our captain's place in,it was ten years ago yesterday when he scored in his 13th consecutive PO game.....a franchise record.

Speaking of Blackhawk's history and our captain's place in,it was ten years ago yesterday when he scored in his 13th consecutive PO game.....a franchise record. 7g, 18a in 13 games ain't too shabby. only 3 other hawks have managed streaks of 10 games or more. stan mikita had an 11 gamer (6g, 15a) while steve larmer (7g, 8a) and darryl sutter (10g, 5a) both had 10 game streaks. the longest was bryan trottier at 18 games. also of note, mark messier had 4 different streaks ranging from 11 to 15 games.

a good clip to watch if you feel the need to count the hairs on your arms. talk about an oldie but a goody... on the short list of my fav sporting events I've attended. easily the best win outside of the three game 6 Cup hoisters during the run, imo. also, Steven Walkom can still go fuck himself with that call.

I was a big fan of all four great Blackhawk goaltenders and rating them in order of importance to their teams is tough but I still have to put 'Mr Goalie' higher than 3rd. His 500+ consecutive game streak w/o a mask is hard to wrap my head around,he revolutionized the game with his early-on butterfly style and he too broke a long Chicago cup drought. 'Eddie the Eagle's' 240 penalty minutes gives him a leg up(LOL) but I'm not sure on who. Crawford's 25gls allowed in 12 SCF games is dam near the stuff of legends,I loved Tony-O and his career stats are truly HoF worthy but COULD YOU IMAGINE the fallout if CC was beat from the red-line in a SCF game seven? blackhawkup.com/2020/05/28/chicago-blackhawks-goalie-mount-rushmore/5/ edit: Corey Crawford also holds the team record with 48 postseason victories(only 11 NHL goaltenders have more)...…..how about that!

"...find out in the middle of winter i'd run short". Love that. Like he's talking about firewood... A man....any man playing hockey into his early 50's is almost unimaginable! Playing 80 games his last NHL season isn't unimaginable…...it's other worldly! How does a body withstand that? To be honest,I feel the same about Ovi and his great AND ongoing career to a lesser extent. What's not lost on me is the size of both players,'Mr Hockey' was a big player for his day and Ovi's a huge mass of NHL greatness......both guys would knock your dick in the dirt too!

seen a tweet the other day (which of course i can't find now) about former coach jaques demers. demers won a cup in montreal and is the only coach to win the jack adams trophy in 2 consecutive years (with the wings). turns out he was basically illiterate. from his wiki page...
On November 2, 2005, Demers released a biography, written by Mario Leclerc, entitled En toutes lettres (English translation: All Spelled Out), in which he revealed that he is functionally illiterate. According to Demers, he never really learned to read or write because of his abusive childhood in Montreal. He covered for himself by asking secretaries and public relations people to read letters for him, claiming he could not read English well enough to understand them (though he speaks English and French equally well). When he served as general manager of the Lightning, he brought in Cliff Fletcher and Jay Feaster as his assistants; as it turned out, they did most of the work a general manager would normally do because Demers knew he could not do it himself.
can you imagine that? having such high profile positions in hockey and not being able to read or write? i have to admire a guy like that. i know i wouldn't have had it in me to succeed like he did.

10 years ago today. funny, I was sitting on the couch watching the tube here with the special lady friend and I noticed the date on my phone and thought "hey, the 'hawks won the Cup 10 years ago today..." I cried. then I got super baked and watched the full game replay on nhl network once the celebration was over. a good evening, that one.

One of a few times i've missed living in my country of birth.

Cup 2 was with 2 canadian mates (+ wives/gf's) here in thailand on a 70" tv. Cup 3 was just me and the missus. Definitely helps to experience something like that with friends, family or cocktail waitresses.

One of a few times i've missed living in my country of birth. I can't share my perspective of the first cup in 49 years(lived em all),without the context of my over all Chicago sports history......prepare to be bored as hell....LOL The city's 23 year title draught spanned my 6th-29th birthdays,I was 6 when the Bears won but my only memory was listening to the F'n game on the radio due to a league blackout which means I grew up without EVER celebrating a title in a city with FIVE major sports teams. The Bears broke my 'cherry' in monumental fashion when they kicked a team up n down the field for three hours in back '86',that was as much relief as it was anything else. This team had two great follow up seasons 14-2,NFC title game and 12-4 and won their division 6 out of 7 years but no more SB's and only one appearance for the Org since. The two MLB teams had a combined ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY SEVEN YEARS without a WS when they ended the horror in '05' and '16' respectively. America's past time past our city by for dam near two CENTURIES! The Chicago Bulls were as advertised and a decade of dominating a sport was unimaginable for a Chicago sports fan at that time...….great players and a great coach was quite a combination,as we would find out again later in the UC. The Hawks with Bobby and Stan were pretty much a yearly contender back in their day and I still believe they see another cup or two if the FO doesn't move a guy who became a 700 goal scoring force. Larmer,Savard,Wilson,Belfour,Tony-O and too many other greats to list gave us hope between then and the 2010 cup but no cigar unfortunately. I think most of us knew we were on to something at the end of the '09' season,if Havlat doesn't get Cronwaled, that might have been a series but it lit a fire under the group. I know it's too late to cut it short but sweeping a very good Sharks team and two elimination games in hand back in '10' gave me a LOT of confidence. I expected the victory to be honest.
