oddly enough and as crazy as it sounds, the 1st one was the least remarkable of the 3 for me....just for the fact that i was so bloody stunned and didn't really know how i was supposed to react. swear to God i was straight and fairly sober but it almost felt like it was happening to someone else. idk...maybe because it was just me watching by myself. i must have done some hollering because a guy who was working in our yard at the time stuck his head in the window to see if the crazy "farang" was having an aneurysm or something. it kind've sucked because there wasn't a single expat in the village at that time that would have even vaguely understood the enormity of what had just happened to me. One of a few times i've missed living in my country of birth. My '10 Cup experience was "off" too. Me and my wife were watching at home after DVR'ing the game as we always do to skip commercials. That meant we were about 15 minutes behind actual time. Before we actual saw the win, fireworks outside were going off everywhere and my phone went nuts with texts and calls I was afraid to answer. We both knew what that meant, and when we got to see Kane's GWG a bit later it wasn't certain that it even went it at first. There wasn't a real "hell yeah!" moment to celebrate properly. After that, we watched important games in real time. Haven't had to do that for a few years though...

My sister, niece, nephew and I met up at a suburban bar that night. I wanted to be in a crowd, in case we were going to get to celebrate a championship. But it was an odd one to say the least. First, it was actually the 2nd cup the Hawks would win in my lifetime, although pretty hard to remember the first in 1961, since I was born in November 1960. But this one had a bit of anticlimatic to it when we weren't sure the puck actually went into the net. At the bar, it was pretty funny how the crowd cheered, then went silent for a second because nobody really knew for sure. But when Kane and Sharp started sprinting down the ice, the celebration began and the Chicago Blackhawks were Stanley Cup Champions!
I put quite a few of 2010 (and 2015) playoffs onto DVD for me to watch. So today, I started back and watched one of the most pivotal games that playoff season, game 5 in round one vs Nashville. Series was tied at 2, game was in the UC. The Hawks didn't want to go back to Nashville for game 6 down 3 to 2. And it looked pretty good late in the 2nd as they had taken a 3 to 1 lead, outshooting Nashville 21 - 6 with 5 minutes to go in the 2nd. Then the Hawks got a PP and Nashville scored shorthanded and the tide turned. Nashville would go on to take the lead and then late in the 3rd Hossa would take a 5 minute major penalty that seemed to doom the Hawks. All Nashville really had to do was rag that puck and they'd go home with the series lead. But an ill advised play by Martin Erat led to a Hawks break down the ice, and Patrick Kane scored a shorthanded goal in the final seconds and the UC erupted and the game went to OT. Now the problem was Hossa still had around 4 minutes left on his major penalty, so the pressure was still on the Hawks. But they more then came thru, including an unsung hero, Brent Sopel. If memory serves (I'm in the midst of watching the game but still have the 3rd period to watch) Sopel spent 2 straight minutes of that short handed situation on the ice before Hossa came out of the box. Then Sopel ragged the puck in the offensive zone, circled the net, passed the puck to Hossa, who buried it for the game winner. I've never heard the UC louder (yes, I was in attendance). And even as we left, the stairwells were rocking. After the game, on the way home in my car, I checked stubhub and found a pair of tickets for game 6 in Nashville at face value and bought them. My nephew and I drove there and witnessed the clincher live on enemy ice. It was awesome! So if not for game 5 round 1, it's quite possible we never see the 2010 Cup!

1) I know it's too late to cut it short... 2) I expected the victory to be honest. 1) much too late. haha...just hacking you...but the droughts make the rains all the more sweeter. 2) i try to never venture into those waters but i know what you mean. we were good. impossible at the time to think we'd be mediocre before long. oh well...it happens i guess. as well you know.

ah yes, June 9 2010.....
I had typed out a whole wrap up, ranking the Cup wins and a bit about each, but then I tried to scroll up on this phone and when I did it refreshed the page and *poof*..... so now we will just do 2010 and those other celebrations will have their remembrance when they hit 10 years old...
I moved to Chicago from MI in the fall of 2009, moved into the shoebox the ex gf was living in in Edgewater. I had lived in MI my whole life, only able to see the 'hawks play on occasion - mostly against the wangs. so needless to say, I was on overload once I moved to the city (the ex and I had been doing the long distance thing for almost 2 years at that point, so whenever I visited her it was always time to watch the 'hawks). first night there, jobless and solo cuz the ex was at work, was Hossa vs the Sharks in his Blackhawks debut. I didn't miss a single game the rest of that season. once I was employed I scheduled around the 'hawks, including the entire playoff run...
the night of game 6 was an interesting one. I'd been in the city only about 7 months and while I'd made friends, I was still used to watching the 'hawks play on my own cuz no one in MI was interested unless they were playing the wangs and I didn't need that harassment half the time. so the ex was working that night and I was home alone. good place to be, i figured. i had tickets in hand for game 7, so either i get to see a win tonight or we are going to a winner take all in two days, i thought.
I dunno about most here, but I have a hard time sitting still during bigger playoff games and I NEVER sit down during OT... so i was already on my feet when 88 threw the shake n bake on Timonen. as soon as he threw his hands up, I was already jumping up and down and yelling. I knew it was in, Kaner told me all I needed to know. the Chicago Blackhawks had won the fucking Stanley Cup.
the texts started before the goal was confirmed. I had many years worth of harassing to deal with at that point and I gave it as good as I had gotten. lotta laughs with old friends and new via the tele. then Gary came out to hand out some trophies. first it was my favorite player on the team, and soon to be all time favorite player, getting the Conn Smythe, justifying all the smack talk toward my wang friends starting his rookie season (this 19 guy is gonna be OUR Captain #19). then the Cup came out. I was happy, smiling, overjoyed, beyond ecstatic... and when Tazer lifted over his head, I fricking lost it... that was the moment it became "real", and while he searched for 81 to hand it off to, I sobbed like a little kid, smiling all the way through...
after that, it was time to get more high, open the scotch, hand out some more texts, and thoroughly enjoy the rest of the skates and interviews. once the broadcast on NBC was done, it was change it to the local channels and about then i discovered NHL network was replaying the game shortly, so over there i went and watched it all over again, the whole game, the goals, Toews getting dinged and obviously not ok, Kane with the winner, the hoisting and such... I was still up when the ex got home at 8am...
the next day, it was time to buy some t shirts, although I spent a decent part of the rewatch buying shit online as well... take my money, thanks... sadly, I wasn't able to work the next day (I called in sick before I went to bed 😅), so it was just out on the town, high fiving strangers. then it was the 6am red line trip downtown as few days later... we got there early, but not early enough, so we were on the rail but a couple blocks from the stage on MI ave. close ups with all the buses... Kaner spraying us with champagne... still have the pic the ex took of Toews hoisting the Cup amongst the confetti coming down from the windows above... then the zamboni and the horse back police... and then time to jump the fence and follow the boys to the stage... the ex being claustrophobic but dammit woman you are gonna deal cuz:The Cup. the rap. the "anyone know a good dentist". Buff and the belt. Chicagoooooooo. all of it. best celebration BY FAR of the three. this one wasn't clean like the next two, this one was dirty, visceral, a real outpouring. I remember after going to the ex's job (Prentice) to take a piss and how odd it felt to be in a controlled environment like that again and how I couldn't wait to get back outside and high five another stranger...
what a night (and week and summer!) that was...

this isn't meant to turn into the montreal canadiens hit parade but i have to pass this on. then there's this bit of craziness from his wiki page. Dryden was drafted fourteenth overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1964 NHL Amateur Draft. Days later, June 28, Boston traded Dryden, along with Alex Campbell, to the Montreal Canadiens for Paul Reid and Guy Allen. Dryden was told by his agent that he had been drafted by the Canadiens and did not find out until the mid-1970s that he had been drafted by the Bruins.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Dryden

I stayed in to watch that one as I did with a lotta important games and also because I had my hockey 'buddy' comin' over...…...she was special on occasion too and that was one! I wouldn't quite say I get the 'vapors' re-watching like you(LOL)……….JUST KIDDING! A lots shit brings a tear to my eyes these days. Super baked? Half the time my friend. Cup 1 was all by my lonesome. Cup 2 was with 2 canadian mates (+ wives/gf's) here in thailand on a 70" tv. Cup 3 was just me and the missus. Definitely helps to experience something like that with friends, family or cocktail waitresses. Wives/gf's...... Did you put the car keys in the hat?

Upon completion of winning his 3rd cup in June of 15,Q had a record of 43-14 in games 4-7 of a PO series and that's not a typo. Later in a series is when a HC figures his opponent out.

That finals saw an offensive machine that was 1st in the league with 262 goals and carried that through the PO's chasing both Price and the King go up against the league leader in goals allowed(tied w/the Habs) and what happened? Low scoring, close, tight checking games happened and that shows us which team dictated style and tempo. Neither team ever held a 2 goal lead until Kane made it 2-0 in the 3rd period of game six...….every game was a chess match and Cooper got check mated! Keith was a deserving unanimous Conn Smyth winner but CC gives him a run if he didn't take a mis-step out of the gate. Since you're my stats guy, find me the last GT to give up 10 or less in a SCF of 5 games or more.....I wouldn't mind that.

Thought this was an interesting tid bit I came across...…. www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5tFpGz_NMA Ali didn't even take his sweat suit off!LOL! It still takes BIG ones to step into the squared circle with any heavy weight w/o headgear! i bet i haven't been to 10 nhl games in my life, but the best fight i ever saw (live) was at a junior hockey game in i'm guessing 1976 or 77. the wheat kings' dave semenko (RIP) against new westminster bruin's barry beck. toe to toe and one for the ages.

Van won two 1-0 games and one in OT to go up 3-2 w/home advantage,Bobby Lou posted two SO's and still allowed 23 along with Schnieder after gettin' pulled a few times. Game six in Boston, the cup's in the building for the first time in Vancouver's history and Bobby Lou didn't make it half way through the 1st period(and Hawk fan's bitched about CC....LOL!),Van shoulda went with Schnieder in game seven. Thomas had a great season all around.

After watching all the W's from the Filet Mignon,Bone-in Ribeye and dry aged Porterhouse seasons that were 10,13 and 15,I have to say watching W's from this year that are now showing is more like Spam in a can!

another fun story:
so basically, this thing is a thumbs up/down system. it pops up and she reviews them and flags the comments if need be. I'm not sure if they don't post or if someone else checks them after they are flagged and then decides on posting, but I hope it is the former...
earlier she goes in the can and leaves her phone sitting there open, as the comments are continuously coming and you are paid by volume... so I look and there is one about go blues, tarasenko, yadda, and I down thumbed it. lol. she is like "what are you doing?" I told her her accuracy percentage could handle the hit....

dave britt, the guy who built tony-0's iconic mask has passed away. this is an interesting article if you're a fan of tony's as i am. it's about mr. britt and the history of the mask he originally built as well as the tweaks given to it by it's owner. tony wore that mask for all but 13 games of his 985 game career. one of the best parts about the article was the close up photos of the mask. it had definitely seen some action. www.nhl.com/news/tony-esposito-reveals-stories-behind-legendary-goalie-mask/c-290451266

likely well before most people's time here, but eddie "the entertainer" shack is dead at 83. i just remembered he was always fun to watch. not known as a goal scorer so much, but he managed at least 22 goals with 5 different teams. (toronto, boston, l.a., buffalo and pittsburg)
