couple of saskatchewan lads arguing about crop rotation or the price of barley no doubt.
i always thought schultz was bigger but at 6'1" and 185 pounds he was the same weight as maggie and just an inch taller.
yep,,,maggie could take a punch alright and the hammer was always happy to oblige.

I think the comment at the end might have surpassed the goal.

had to look it up of course but we traded doug jarrett (nicknamed chairman of the boards for good reason) for him in 1975.
gilles villemure only played 21 games for chicago, his numbers over 2 years were 4.29 .859 and 5.38 .843.
but i liked his mask.
edit: just realized doug jarrett was another product of st. catherines, playing both with the st. catherines teepees and the st. catherines black hawks. both teams heavy with hawks' alumni.

Gretz was the best ever. But that was a pathetic display of manhood there. Hahahaha. Ive never seen a man pick a fight and put in that bad of an effort. And I’ve seen some turtles in my day. Hahahaha. Stick to what you’re good at!!!

I don’t think Broten was a feared fighter but he didn’t break a sweat on this one.

Hahahaha. Stick to what you’re good at!!! kinda seemed like he figured someone else would pop in and handle it for him (like always). or maybe he knew the refs would stop it as quickly as they did. Neal looked like he felt bad and went easy on him...

i had a hunch chicago was the first team to use the goal horn but i never knew the whole story. 1973 Chicago Blackhawks owner Bill Wirtz decided to install his personal yacht’s horn at Chicago stadium during the Stanley Cup Final against the Montreal Canadiens. He liked the sound and thought it would amp up the game. 50 years later—every single NHL team uses a goal horn when their home team scores.hockeyquestion.com/why-hockey-has-goal-horns/#:~:text=So%2C%20when%20were%20goal%20horns,Finals%20against%20the%20Montreal%20Canadiens.

this was most likely the fondest memory for me in an otherwise dismal season.
Q smiling behind the bench was almost as amazing as SF's performance.
Happy birthday my man.

sorry to have to put a byfuglien snippet in the hockey history section. like they said on the podcast, they miss watching him play as i'm sure many do regardless of the uniform he's wearing. anyways, i don't recall seeing this before but i may have forgotten. btw, it's not an nhl goalie in net, it's a teenager who won a contest. still an impressive shot. hellebuyck talks about byfuglien/fishing between 28 minutes and 31 minutes in friedman's latest podcast if interested. end of the podcast when asked what the best part about playing in winnipeg was, hellebuyck without hesitation says "the ice fishing". : ) pretty clear why him and buff are good mates. www.sportsnet.ca/podcasts/32-thoughts/connor-hellebuyck/

Met Maggie at I think was the sun times sports show. I asked who was the toughest guy he ever fought. He said with out hesitating “The Hammer”. he said when The Hammer hit you… you knew you were getting hit by one big strong guy.. seems like he holds his own in this one.. he had that red face.. by the time he got done in any fight.. he looked as red as a cherry.. but man I liked him, he took them all on.. The Hammer looks a lot bigger in this fight…

Was Flyers #2 in the clip Ed Van Impe? I haven’t seen or heard these names in a long time. “Moose” DuPont?

Van Impe jersey #2, DuPont was #6 Barry Ashbee was another d-man for the Flyers but he took a puck in the eye and not sure he was ever the same after. Kind of a big guy as I recall - not too mobile but physical.

You are correct, Ashbee wore #4, Joe Watson #14, Jim Watson #20, & Tom Bladon #3, he was more the offensive defensemen and youngest I believe.

Guess I should just look up the roster from around ‘72 - ‘74 or so.

Guess I should just look up the roster from around ‘72 - ‘74 or so. Those Flyers teams were loaded, great goalie in Parent (73 games played, 47 wins, 1.89 GA and 12 SO in 73-74) and then you had Clarke, MacLeish, Barber, Lonsberry, Dornhoefer, Shultz (20 goals), Saleski, Clement & Crisp (3rd & 4th line centers). Almost unbeatable at home with Kate Smith & God Bless America. Fred Shero, great coach.

That guy never focused on hockey and just loved to crush puss. That’s all he did. He was dating every actress he could. Even Pam Anderson for a while. That was his existence in the National. I’m sure it was fun. Good riddance!!!

idk if this belongs in hockey history, but this old rink in saskatchewan seems historic. and i think that could've been one of the original goalie nets from when the rink was first built maybe. : )
i know the old chicago stadium had stairs going up to the ice, i doubt many had stairs like this going down to the ice.

Now that is state of the art stuff. a few people who commented on the tweet say it's a rink in a village called lang in saskatchewan. i've never heard of lang so i googled it. it's got a population of just 189. i wonder what the population would be today if so many over the years hadn't needlessly died on those stairs?
