Seems fitting to have a page in Hawk Talk pertaining to their prospects at the World Juniors.
3 of Canada's 6 dmen are Hawks prospects, I don't remember that happening before.
To bad Nazar is out because he certainly would've made the US team.
Plus the Hawks have a good chance of landing Bedard or Fantilli, so a couple forwards to keep an eye on.

Hawks prospects not looking too good tonight. Fantilli has been absolutely awful. Like really bad. I know it’s one game. Canada deserves to be in this mess. Tendy was shit and should a been pulled long before the 5th goal. I would a done it after the 3rd goal.
But the real prize is Bedard. He’s not a Hawks prospect yet, but he’s the real deal. KK with not much ice time. Dach has been meh. And Allen is ok. Del Mastro the only good looking one so far!!!

Dennis better get these kids playing the right way. I’m all for trying the “Michigan”. But 2 in one period? The Canadians came out too cocky and thought it was going to be a cakewalk. This game is on the coaches. The kids clearly weren’t ready to play. They’ve played better the last 15 mins. But can’t allow them to be that soft for a tournament game!!!

Overall. Just gotta be better. I agree with GT that they need to muck it up in the corners and in front of the net. One thing to keep in mind is that Bedard is only 17. And he’s looking like the best player by a country mile. Fantilli had a bad game. I’m over it. I’m sure he’ll be much better real soon. He did have a few good shifts in the late 2nd and into the 3rd.
However my main concern is coaching. A team of that caliber cannot be that fragile. A goal gets called back and the coach looked Sasquatch caught on camera for the first time. Just paralyzed on the bench there. I thought he should a gave it to the refs a few times. That 5 minute match penalty was a hockey play. Ok, give 2 mins. But a 5 min pp should a got the coaches attention a little more.
Korchinski I thought played better than Zellweger. Z was pretty brutal too. Korchinski wasn’t terrible defensively. But again, he’s 18 playing against the best 19 year olds on the planet. I think he needs to play more and get his game going. He’s not a kid you take for a role player. He’s just not that. So, let’s hope for the Canadian side they realize that shit in the bed is terrible!!!

i thought dach could've tied up that guy on the czech's 4th goal. I agree. Poor effort. I think there was a lot of sloppy own end play. Was it the big rosters screwing up lines and pairings, players from too many different systems confused at their responsibilities, or too much look at me stuff and not enough grit? And I think it’s going to stay hard if one forward is taking just about all of the shots.

Why that was, I don't know; however, when he did, I saw nothing from him that impressed me. On the other hand, as many of you have said before, Bedard is the real deal. How well he will stand up to serious NHL defensemen is another story, but he will have some good times in the NHL. I don't know that he is the next Connor McDavid, though. But, he is still young, so we'll see. Even if the Hawks get Bedard, he/they will need a lot of other help on offense. Just like he could not do it alone tonight, he will not be able to do it alone for the Hawks and they got nothing else to help him out. Sure they have more draft picks coming, but they need stars, not helpers. Bedard is a star, but hockey is a team game.

But, there was much more time spent in the Czech d zone, than in the Canadian.

I think we watched different games I had to leave for work not long after the Bedard goal but before that he looked good in his own zone, used his stick a couple times to break up plays and took a hit to clear the puck and didn't bail. Plus he skated the puck out a couple times and got the puck deep. It's only 1gm.

Too much individual play makes the team look bad. I see it a lot in Peewee. That’s what Canada looked like. A peewee team.
Also, Goudreau was worse than terrible in net. Tendys gotta be a lot better than that. Pretty much everything went wrong. Czechia isn’t that good!!!

We’re putting the cart before the horse here. How many stars do you guys think a team needs? Getting Bedard is most of the battle. The team will be at or near the bottom for the next couple years. They’ll have their shot at many high picks. There’s also trades, UFA. Etc. they’ll attract the best when you have a cast that includes Bedard. The kid is 17. It’s not like he’s gonna carry a team at 18. It’s the future we’re looking toward. If lucky. You’ll get a 10 year window before a mini rebuild has to happen. Hawks missed that last time. They should have taken 3 years after the 2016 season and retooled for another 4-5 year run. Regardless. Here we are now. I believe they’re heading in the right direction. Not every kid will make it, but if they have 10-12 first rounders in a 4 year period. You’ve greatly increased the odds of rebuilding successfully and quickly!!!

I would say that a team, depending on how starry their stars are, will need from anywhere between 3 and 5, or 6. Look at Gretzky's Oilers, stars and more stars on both sides of the blue line. The Hawks had Kane, Toews, Hossa and Keith with Seabrook as a red star. So, let's say the Hawks get Bedard. On offense, they got absolutely no one now that would really be rated as even close to a star. Will they get any stars besides Bedard with their draft picks? Not in 2023, if they get Bedard. Who knows what will happen in 2024, but they will certainly be bucking for the top draft pick again, so they could get one from that draft. Then they need some more budding stars, or at least a number of offensive players with substantial cred because they have no one in the current lineup or at Rockford that qualifies. To suggest that they will get Bedard, then Bedard Jr., then Bedard II, then Bedard III is more of a dream than a likely reality. You are right that upping the quality of the team will help attract some free agents, but they will mostly be of the solid contributor types rather than Hossa types, or other varieties of stars. Their defense is plain awful, as shown by the 49 shots that Carolina put on them last night, so they will need to draft some Makars, Keiths and LeTangs. If they go for those types then they won't be getting the top-rated offensive players. They just need too much to expect that the draft will supply all their needs, given that not all draft picks really pan out. It is too much to also expect that there will be an abundance of free agents to fill the gaps. They just need too much to be able to rebuild a Cup contender in 4 years. We haven't even talked about a quality goalie. This is a ruined franchise that will be able to make some additions to help it get better, but it will not be a Cup contender in the next 4 to 6 years because they need too much and too much has to go right to reach that status. It is the stuff of fantasies, not reality.

Bedard very well could end up being the next McDavid. He’s doing things that McDavid never did. The kid is an offensive machine like we’ve never seen before.
Jeff O’Neill is an old school type guy. He’s not the biggest fan of the new age hockey players and doesn’t really care for the “Michigan” and stuff like that. And he said yesterday on TSN that if a goalie makes a save, get rid of him. If your forward makes a good play, get rid of him. It’s ok to tank for this guy. He’s the real deal and a very very special player.
Bob Mckenzine was next. He said it’s really worth it to be in the bottom 2 this year due to the new lotto rules. What a player one of them are getting (Chicago, Anaheim, San Jose, Columbus). 4th is the only team that could move up to win.
Sweden beat Germany 1-0. Swedes are a fave to win. I believe the Czechs woke up the slayer. We thank them for that. Bedard even said that Dach was good. And that his role isn’t to score here, and he accepts that and played an awesome game. I thought Del Mastro was the best dman. Zellweger seems troublesome to me. I don’t know, but he just doesn’t seem to be aware of his surroundings and he makes shit plays.
Korchinski with 2 assists in a very limited role. He’s got 3 points in 2 games. I’d love to see him back here next year. He’ll be a dominant force. And he very well may end up back there. So he’s looked as advertised to me at least.
Allan is a kid that I believe will need quite a bit of seasoning. I could see him making it, but after a few more years. I think he just mentally needs to grow. Which is fine in a full rebuild.
But Del Mastro looks to be a solid dman. He should be able to crack the Hawks lineup sooner than later. Not sure if he needs much AHL time. Just limit his role on the Hawks for the 1st year. Let KK go back to Jrs for another year and another WJC. Allan will be in the AHL. But the future looks a lot better, especially if the Hawks can avoid Bettmans wrath ( Beach fiasco) and actually get the 1st pick. The players needed for the rebuild will be half over!!!

Allan has really improved his puck control and 1yr in the AHL should be enough.

I would like Kor to go back to JRs Clarke being on this team has not helped his ice time. As far as EDM , OTH has been banging the drum for him for a couple of years. I love the way this guy plays hockey solid all over the ice. Im not as down on Zell but who cares he is Duck property .

Chicago in last place will have a 25% chance to win the 1st pick. Bob McKenzie explained it the other day. He said that last place is guaranteed a top two spot now. Every other team can fall 3 spots. So tanking is the way to go. I’ll look for the rules and post them!!!

Hawks have 5 player this year, next World Juniors they could have more.
If Korchinski isn't in the NHL he'll be back, even if he is the Hawks might let him go, Rinzel and Nazar should be on the US team, Savoie should get a look for Canada and with the many picks they'll have at the draft I'm sure there'll be more.
IF they get Bedard I'd let him play, if they get Fantilli or Carlsson they'll be at the World Juniors. And whoever else they get in the 1st, hopefully they can get Dragicevic, they'll probably get an invite.
This season is long but it'll be worth it at the draft and beyond.

Imagine having 3-4 firsts this year? I know many don’t think teams will give up a first. But this is the year it looks more wide open to win the Cup than ever. Colorado is injury prone and looks like they might even miss the playoffs. Dallas and NJ look to be the better teams as of now. So without a dragon to slay, more teams will feel they’ve got a better shot. So LA may be willing to give up some assets for a solid player. NJ, Dallas, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Boston, LA, Pitt, Toronta, TB, Colorado, Carolina, Edmonton probably all feel that they have a legitimate shot at winning it all. So I think it’s more wide open than ever. So look for 1sts to be tossed around!!!

Here is something I posted elsewhere in response to a post that told me I could not see the big picture when I said I doubted the Hawks' ability to quickly rebuild. No matter what I think, it is true that this team has no choice but to go about its task of tanking and trying to rebuild. How successful they will be is the issue, not whether they should. Here is what I said elsewhere:
"I can see a potential big picture, but I like to post a contrasting view to the rosy one seen here so often. I state this view not because I have any personal agenda against you or any other poster that believes the rebuild will bring the Cup back to Chicago, but only lay out a view that shows that there are significant roadblocks that might result in a rebuild that will not return the Cup back here. That is not because I think I am definitely right, but because it is possible that things won't develop as anticipated in this "rebuild". For example, in that Canada/Czechia game, we have Bedard with all his Canadian teammates/stars playing a Czech team that has not generally done very well in this Junior tournament. If the Candians are so damn good and ready to take over the NHL upon their ascension to the bigs, then why didn't they mercilessly slaughter the Czechs; or at least beat them. If the Canadian stars cannot beat an average Junior team, then why should I believe that this group (let's say the Hawks got all of them) would dominate the NHL? I can't, which is why I think that it is not necessarily true that acquiring Bedard, or Fantilli (a no show in the Czech game), will solve the Chicago problems. That is even with a couple of free agents added into the mix.
I do not base my contrary opinion on games I see this season because I agree with you they have nothing but roster fillers out there who will be gone. They will be replaced by rookies derived from their picks and then a few free agents. I am not so sure that the free agents will be salivating at the chance to play NHL veterans with only a bunch of rookies to back them up. Besides, who says that the rookies will be so much better than the NHL vets they will face. In addition, the Hawks have no goalie on the present roster or in their system. So, this means they need to draft a great goalie, several great offensive players and four, or five, great/very good dmen. This is in a situation where most draft picks don't really shine in the NHL, first rounders, or not. So, I am not so sure that simply because they are rebuilding, they will construct a sound, beautiful structure.
It just seems to me that the hopes here are really based on the draft picks of the next few years all turning into bona fide NHL stars; or at least, pretty damn good players, who with a few free agents will, all of a sudden, turn into a Cup competitive team. It doesn't always turn out that way as proven by numerous teams who have been rebuilding for years. Look at Edmonton, which has Draisaitl and McDavid and is still not the premier team in the league and would not command the favorite's role in this year's Cup challenge. Why aren't they at the top of the heap after getting those guys, if you want a comparison between what McDavid and Bedard could do for a team? There are numerous teams in the NHL, who have been rebuilding for years and still suck. Why should the Hawks turn out any different?
Now, as said, it could easily turn out that my opinion will not be the right one. In fact, I hope I am wrong, but I do believe there is a solid case that can be made for contending that this franchise has too many deficits to fill for me to believe that in 3-5 years, they will fill enough of them to become Cup competitive. One other factor for me is that there is an assumption that the current GM will make all the right decisions in rebuilding. Given all the teams that have been rebuilding for a long time without significant results, why should I believe that KD is such a better GM than the ones who have failed to rebuild the current teams that have failed to become relevant?
Finally, as a way of comparing the 2010 Cup champs to what the Hawks would have after drafting Bedard for whatever it is worth in assessing of how close the Hawks would be to being Cup competitive, go back and look at the roster of the 2009-10 Hawks. It was a mix of proven vets with the addition of the free agent Hossa and the oncoming two new guys, Kane and Toews. The Bedard Hawks would have Bedard, assuming he is the equivalent of the young Kane or Toews and no one else. But, even if you assume that they get some other forward to join Bedard to equal having Kane and Toews, they will have absolutely nothing in the roster to come close to Hossa, Keith, Sharp, Seabrook, Hjarlmsson, Brouwer, Ladd, Bguyflien, etc, etc, etc. and good goaltending. The Bedard Hawks would be so far away from having a roster to compare to the 09-10 Hawks that it almost defies the fruition of the fantasies it would take to put together a similar team. That is why I cannot subscribe to a belief that they will do that in 5 years."

Yeah I said you can't see the big picture Jack and you keep proving me right with your pessimism.
I'm not basing my optimism on last year's draft, and this upcoming one, but if you go back to 2019 the Hawks have drafted some solid players.
Vlasic, Phillips, Del Mastro, Allan, Reichel, C. Dach, Harding, 5 of them were drafted in the 3rd or higher. Phillips and Del Mastro were drafted after the 3rd but they've made big strides in their progress.
Last draft they had 3 1st round picks, all 3 have a lot of potential, plus guys like Ludwinski, Greene, and Savoie could be the depth players every team needs to do the dirty work and be able to chip in on offense.
This draft they have the chance at a top 3 pick, plus Tampas first and possibly 1 or 2 more.
As far as vets go, they can be added via trades or free agency.
Not to mention the picks and prospects they'll add when trading most of the roster now. This team's in better shape then you realize.
