We all know the last GM didn’t care about timelines. Everything was a rush and he had to show off his shiny new toy. Boqvist played one year in Jrs in NA. He needed 2. Then a year in the farm. Or at least half a year. But that wasn’t possible due to idiocy. Then to top it off, the kid wasn’t ready and they thrust him onto the top pairing, where he ruined not just his career, Keith failed miserably too. With Dach. He played literally 1.5 years of Jrs and absolutely rushed to the NHL. He needed maybe 4 total years of Jrs. Possibly some AHL time. That’s the difference. Korchinski has 2.5 years of Jr experience. But here’s the kicker. He played an extra 30 games last year between the Hawks (pre season), Team Canada (WJC) and a long playoff run + the Memorial Cup. So he’s got quite a bit experience. He has the equivalent to 3+years of jr experience. I don’t believe the extra year in Jrs is going to amount to much. If KK plays on the 6-7 role, that’s ideal. Start him at 7 for preseason and to start the year. Maybe 6-7 games. Then try him in rotation and switch with Phillips or Kaiser. Let KK get 2nd pp This role and bottom 3 pairing. If he starts to fail. Cut his minutes and put Kaiser or someone else out there. I don’t think he’ll fail with realistic minutes. Throw him on the top pair and he’ll fail. It’s really that simple!!! Believe me - I hope you're right. I'm impatient and would love to see KK playing on the Hawks sooner than later - but that means playing WELL whenever it is he plays.

Believe me - I hope you're right. I'm impatient and would love to see KK playing on the Hawks sooner than later - but that means playing WELL whenever it is he plays. A wise man once told me “if you’re not patient, you’ll become one”. I think the real question should be this……. Would KK be better suited playing top minutes in Jr or playing minimal minutes in the NHL? Believe he’d be better suited in the NHL. Not because I have Scambo syndrome and cannot wait to ruin a kid. It’s simply because he won’t learn anymore at that level. If anything, he’d be teaching the younger kids how to adjust to the WHL. The best thing is to turn the corner and learn from the vets that are there now. And those vets have absolutely no ties to Chicago and can help the kids do what they do and have done. For a kid that has done pretty much everything in Jrs. There’s nothing left for him except get a big head. Worst case is that he struggles the first few months and the Hawks release him to team Canada for the world Jrs. Unless he downright sucks. I don’t see him not making it. I could be wrong. But I think there’s a plan in place with him. He was amongst the top 6 dmen last year in Hawks camp. Now, I think last year he would a flamed out and sucked the last half. I think it’s best to get growing pains out of the way. I think he’ll struggle till the end of Jan. Then all of the sudden he gets it and his natural progressing will take over. But we’ll see!!!

Curious if Bedard can be signed before his 18th birthday, which is July 17th. All I'm finding is a player has to turn 18 by September 5th in order to be drafted. Guess we have the answer.

So Bedard went from being a poor 17 year old to getting $950,000 a year for the next 3 years.
What a difference a day can make!

Here's a breakdown of Bedard's contract on a per-season basis, courtesy of Cap Friendly:
Signing bonus: $95,000 Base salary: $855,000 Performance bonus: $3.5 million maximum
The Type "A" performance bonus is worth up to $1 million. All Bedard needs to do is hit four of the categories below, which are worth $250,000 each for players drafted in 2022 and beyond, according to Puck Pedia:
20 goals
35 assists
60 points
Top 6 in ice time among forwards (in total and/or per game) on team (minimum 42 games)
Top 3 in plus/minus among forwards on team (minimum 42 games)
0.73 points-per-game (minimum 42 games)
End-of-season all-rookie team
All-Star selection
All-Star MVP
The Type "B" performance bonus is the bigger one and worth up to $2.5 million. Bedard can earn the full amount if any of the following is achieved:
Top 10 among NHL forwards in goals, assists, points, or points-per-game (minimum 42 games played)
Win any of the following trophies: Hart, Selke, Richard, Conn Smythe
First- or second-team All-Star

barring injury, he'll easily achieve the type A bonus imho.
if the calder trophy was a part of the type B bonus package, he'd stand a good chance at that as well.
but the way it stands now it's a longshot at best.

Now, as long as the others drafted with high hopes pan out, the Hawks might have a good season coming up at some point in the next few years.

And in Chicago, 17 year old girls are jail bait. So he's pretty limited for the next few years! Although I'm sure he'll have a lot of high school seniors asking him to prom

loling very hard right now at the idea of Connor Bedard having any trouble getting laid, both going forward or over the past couple years...

This past season with the Pats selling out buildings I'm sure girls were trying to hook up with him, lots of puck bunnies up here. I've never seen a kid more focused on hockey, I doubt he'll get caught up in things like Kaner did.

During prospects camp when Bedard was playing ball hockey with the kids, one of them asked if he had blisters on his hands or were they calluses, definitely calluses with the amount of shooting drills he does. They must be prominent if a kid thinks they're blisters, I'm curious to see what his hands look like.

I think during the draft his mom said he's never eaten any fast food. Never even had McD's.

ER, it's great to hear from you others. We're still in our fifth wheel RV, BUT, we are living on our 5-acre property. As is typical these days, the build has had its ups and downs. We had to fire our GC just this week. Ah, whatever doesn't kill ya.......

I bought a Class-B RV after my wife passed and went traveling for almost 3 months and that getting away and being by myself helped me a lot. Now, the RV is sitting in my driveway for most of the past year doing nothing.

maybe already mentioned, too lazy to scroll back...but i wonder if having bedard inspires other teammates (young and older) to have better exercise/eating habits and work ethics. i was listening to a podcast (i believe) recently, for the life of me i can't remember whose. i guess after games, bedard likes to scoot up to a wall on his back and raise his legs against the wall and stay like that for some time. nobody had seen it before, including trainers. pretty soon most of the team was doing it. can't remember if it was the pats or team canada or another team. maybe someone else here has heard it. anyways...just wondering if his devotion to improvement rubs off on other players? i'm thinking it would. Here's proof you don't need to be in great shape. may he rest in peace. and to keep it on track, a nice article about nick foligno and why he was brought in. “Connor’s not going to be able to hide from [the spotlight] in the world we live in now,” Foligno said. “But I think how you are as a room helps you in those moments. If he knows that we all have his back, and if we know that he’s loving coming to work every day and the passion is there, then all of that stuff really doesn’t matter. He’s enjoying just being an NHL hockey player and rolling with the team he’s on. That’s what I want to bring. I want to try and help with a lot of great guys that we have already in that room. We got Corey Perry coming in, Taylor Hall, Seth Jones is there, Connor Murphy. There’s a lot of really good players, Stanley Cup champs even, that know how to do that. I’m excited about being another piece of that and helping these young guys in understanding that that’s the most important part. How tight you are as a group is gonna dictate how successful we are as a team, and I hope to bring that to Chicago.”www.nbcsportschicago.com/nhl/chicago-blackhawks/blackhawks-news/nick-foligno-is-determined-to-create-a-safe-space-for-bedard-to-flourish/496120/

When I took my getaway trip in winter/spring 2022 I went to spend some time with my daughter and her family who live in Mountain Home Idaho so I drove through Montana and absolutely love the state. You can know the term Big Sky but you really don't know it until you experience Montana. I would move there in a minute if I didn't have my grandkids close to me here in Illinois. Back to hockey - after coming through the euphoric Cup winning decade and then experiencing the painful decline over the past 5-6 years - it's looking up again and very exciting.
