I think it’s great that they’re this passionate about the game and their craft. Not taking away from them. But I can see why they’re doing this. They’re young, in a new city, still trying to figure things out in life. So instead of sitting in an apartment or condo somewhere, or someone else’s house. They just do what they know best. Good for them. It’ll pay off huge soon!!!

I know many will say he can learn some much from the vets (which I agree) and how to acclimate himself to the NHL lifestyle, but have to agree these extra sessions with Bedard, will pay off here soon. Besides better doing this than video games.

Besides better doing this than video games. Yup. I said from the beginning he’d be staying. It did him no good to sit down in Jrs being bored and playing video games and more than likely getting traded. This first year is all about developing. Not just on the ice. But off the ice. They’re hanging around the rink honing their skills. These are the kids you want. They can’t get enough of the game. It’s fun for them to hang out and stay on the ice. Hopefully there’s a few more of them coming!!!

I wonder if KD/LR/mgmt realized they had a lot invested in the 4 or 5 young guys who could benefit from a week of off-ice activities more than more on-ice training. The two most valuable prospects (Bedard and Korchinski) had never been "out on their own" so doing things like cooking might help them settle into an adult professional lifestyle more so than a few more practice sessions. If they had the foresight that I'm insinuating they did - good on them.

Interesting fact for this Tuesday: Facebook told me today that the Detroit RedWings drafted 3 legendary bruisers (Probert, Kocur, and Grimson) in the 1983 draft. Leads me to take a look at that draft year and that one turned out pretty historic beyond those dudes: www.hockey-reference.com/players/y/yzermst01.html. Stevie Y: 5’11” 185lbs. Connor B: 5’10” 185lbs. My folks moved to MI in 1990 when GM closed in suburban Chgo. All of the DRW games he and I got stuck watching when I’d go visit…I think I am seeing the potential reincarnation of Yzerman around these parts.

The problem was not a Hawks issue, but society wide.

I’m just across the river, well now the lake. But I live like 40 mins from the LCA!!!

Getting dragged to Detroit over Thanksgiving to revisit the Ford Museum we toured nearing 30 years ago...

Brass balls by an 18 y/o if he's already comfortable/confident enough to "work the ref" with a pleasantry on the way to the sinbin. Fairly confident he will score enough goals to outweigh his times heading to the box.

Fairly confident he will score enough goals to outweigh his times heading to the box. Even in the preseason I noticed he went over to the ref after a penalty to one of his teammates, and the guys wearing As were nowhere to be found. He's a very articulate young man with lots of confidence, he can get the C now and it wouldn't change him.

I like how Gretzky mentioned the first 7gms and saying it's the hardest he's ever seen. The NHL always gives Chicago one of the hardest schedules, they're always at or near the top for back to back games and 3 in 4 nights. But this season it's a long stretch to start vs Cup contenders and the recent Cup winner.

I appreciate Gretzky's comments because unlike so many commentators who feel they "have to" say something/anything when they have a microphone in front of them - Gretzky always gives me the impression that he only speaks when he has something to say and only with well thought out opinions.

By the time his draft comes up we should be out of the running for this guy, but it shows blood is thicker…I’d like to see how close they are. Click for the article.

It has been interesting to see all the different places Bedard covers in the O zone. In the last 2 games he has gone right in front of the net and jousted with the D-men; he has made some terrific passes from the left boards towards the right circle; he’s done some of Kane’s maneuvering on the right side on the PP and then either passed or shot like PK did. The guy covers a lot of ground.

i know this is good...just don't ask me what it means.
this fellow corey sznajder who runs this @shutdownline site on twitter has a lot of big-name hockey people following him so i don't believe it's just some fly-by-night bedard groupie putting out this chart.

pretty impressive considering all the different line mates he's had.
hopefully beauvillier sticks and has success. i think CB would appreciate a little stability on that line.
