If they pick a d-man first there’s still going to be good picks lower down. If looking for a centre with good size Sacha Boisvert, a UND commit, is a mid first round to a high second rounder. Top 15 in USHL scoring. I’d also look into his teammate, Matvei Gridin, a UM commit, leading the USHL in scoring. Good size and skills. I like it when Euro’s come over early to acclimate to N.A. hockey. I'd also target Iginla with their mid first, or Battaglia. I think Iginla’s pedigree puts him out of reach of that second pick but I do like his game. I know you also like Yakemchuk, he’s all over the mid to bottom of the first round, I’m liking him as well more and more if the Hawks go forward first and the other righties are gone.

Dream scenario at least to me obviously would be celebrini number 1. But I’d love yakemchuk with Tampa’s pick but can’t see him falling there. Would really like Charlie elick in the second

I’ve read a lot about Parekh being #2/3 overall. He’s a right handed D with incredible skill. His skating is elite. Here’s a video clip of him. He’s being heavily compared to Erik Karlsson. Craig Button says that at the beginning of this clip. But I read a few things on him today and they’re saying he’s the real deal!!! youtu.be/u7FGxHOjew8?si=meXtAFDhc_oFobzzThanks for the video T

Thanks for sharing. On the small end size wise, high end talent, great hands, great passer, you have the Russian factor too. Teams that need D will probably pass, do not see him slipping past the top 5 though. Oy. I remember that same sounding hype around Krivokrasov during the Roenick/Chelios/Belfour-era. Other than one OT winner I THINK I remember, Sergei's time was pedestrian at best. This Russian kid is no Krivikrasov.

here another big boy moving up draft boards. www.eliteprospects.com/player/597680/dean-letourneauarticle in the Athletic today calling him "Tage Thompson 2.0"... I dunno about all that, but he sounds like he can skate well, so I am sure he is on the radar of the brass on west Madison...

Obviously I hope we get Celebrini, and if not him then I hope KD selects the next best forward - but if he decides to go with a d-man - I'm leaning very heavily to Zayne Parekh.
I've seen several of the top d-man prospects - Levshunov of MSU, Buium of Denver, and Parekh of OHL/Saginaw. I haven't seen Dickenson, Silayev or any of the other D-men with a 1st round rating. Of the 3 I've seen multiple times - I take Parekh 10 times out of 10. The other guys are very good with lots of upside but I think Parekh in another level above them. He has great physical skills - vision, skating, passing and shooting - but the thing I think that separates him is his IQ quickness. He sees and reacts in a blink and immediately sees the right play and then puts those physical attributes to use. Very impressive.

This one is for the 2027 draft but it just shows generational players seem to come every second year now. Here’s the next one but for once he’s a defenseman. Going to have to follow him.

I was at a buddies tonight who was a scout. He’s not anymore. He’s also a teacher. So he gave up the scouting for now. Anyways. He talks to every other scout around. Just for shits and giggles I brought up the Hawks and their drafting style. He had said that Moore and Nazar are perfect examples of what to look for in the 1st round at least. So anyways, we kept talking about this year. And he came right out and said that Zayne Parekh is perfect for the Hawks and what they look for. Elite skating, high motor etc. He even said that most have Parekh slotted around 7-9. But he believes the Hawks will take him in the top 3 if need be. He said that the scouts he’s talked to are very high on him, including the Hawks scouts.
I also heard that Hawks GM Kyle Davidson and head of scouting Mike Doneghey, Rob Facca will all be at the Memorial Cup in Saginaw to scout Parekh.
So it seems the Hawks are willing to take him at a much higher slot than most are. I don’t know or haven’t heard much about the Hawks looking into Levshenkov or any of the other Russo players. Now, that’s not to say the Hawks won’t pick any of them. No one knows. So I’m starting to think if the Hawks get pick 4-5. Especially with the way they’re playing lately. Parekh may be the guy!!!

Playoffs are underway around the prospect world, and with the 2024 NHL Draft just 12 weeks away, the debates are only intensifying.
Here at Elite Prospects, we're accumulating viewings, filing reports on prospects at every end of the draft spectrum, and now is the time to share some of that work in the form of our third ranking for this year's draft.
The top-four remains the same: Macklin Celebrini, Ivan Demidov, Cayden Lindstrom, and Artyom Levshunov. The very top end of that ranking has shifted dramatically, though, as a handful of prospects have taken significant steps forward in the second half of their seasons.
The record-breaking, point-producing defenceman Zayne Parekh rounds out the top-five. Parekh always played a highly translatable offensive game, but his second half has been defined by significant growth as a defender and physical player.
Tij Iginla is the most significant riser, going from No. 13 in January’s ranking to No. 6 this go around, usurping Berkly Catton in the process. While the decision to move Iginla over Catton wasn’t unanimous, the team overwhelmingly voted for Iginla in a top-eight spot. He’s filling the net, but his improving skill level and playmaking, along with a high-end puck protection and retrieval game beat out Catton’s higher point-producing upside this time.
The smooth-skating, 6-foot-7 Anton Silayev moves up one spot to No. 9 as our team warms up to his potential. Meanwhile, Zeev Buium cracks the top-10 for the first time after a boom in scoring chance generation down the stretch.
Cole Eiserman (No. 11) and Konsta Helenius (No. 12) are the two prospects who accommodated their ascent, each sliding a couple of spots. While questions around the diversity in Eiserman’s game and Helenius’ dynamism linger, their slides were more the consequence of others gaining a slight edge rather than a drop-off in play. Those prospects could rise back up significantly with strong performances in the last month of the season.
As we see it currently, the prospects ranked fourth to fourteen form one large tier. They all have similar value and could become high-end players for their team, top-six forwards and top-four defencemen.
Outside the top-15, Andrew Basha rises from No. 24 to No. 16, while Teddy Stiga rockets up the list from No. 50 to No. 23. Both prospects have flashed high-level play-driving skills to go with their robust, high-pace supporting game and checking skills. They have lots of upside, but both could impact an NHL lineup if gaudy point totals never materialize.
Sacha Boisvert and Michael Hage moved up, too. The former’s a power forward prospect with tons of finesse, while the latter’s a high-pace, manipulative forward with an improving physical game. Hage has been particularly hot, with 46 points in 26 games in 2024.
The other first-round debutants are Charlie Elick, Terik Parascak, and Cole Beaudoin. Elick’s overpowering physical game, stifling defence, and flashes of high-end breakouts make him a potential top-four defenceman. While neither Parascak nor Beaudoin are the most dynamic talents, both solidly project to the NHL thanks to advanced supporting games and impressive work rates.
The first round is light on European talent, but the second round has a plethora of players in first-round discussions. The non-stop activator Alfons Freij took the No. 33 rank, while Dominik Badinka, Emil Hemming, and Jesse Pulkkinen all earned first-round votes. Adam Jiříček (No. 30) and Aron Kiviharju (No. 49) remain two of the draft’s biggest wild cards with injuries limiting their seasons, but tantalizing upside.
The Elite Prospects team will convene again in May to produce the final ranking for the draft guide. This season again, the guide will include over 350 players, featuring in-depth analysis, tool grades, tracking data, game reports, and more. The release of the Elite Prospects 2024 NHL Draft Guide is set for early June.

I truly believe that by the time the Memorial Cup is complete. I think we’ll hear a lot more about Parekh. The article Barn just posted has him in the top 5 now. Where last month he was 12-15. A buddy of mine is an OHL linesman. He does Spitfires/Saginaw/Flint/Sarnia area. He has seen Parekh a lot, and on the ice with him. His nephew and my son are best friends and play together. So we see each other a lot. He says Parekh is the best skater you’ll see. And he’s an offensive dynamo. I believe when the draft starts. We’ll hear a lot more about this kid moving up to top 3. I’ve heard sooooo much lately about this kid. It’s really hard to ignore.
At the beginning of the year, I said that he was a result of his team. But he had 21 more points than Misa who’s supposed to be a superstar. But so far has been good, not great. So for a 17 year old to do what Parekh did is unreal. I think after the Memorial Cup, we’ll hear a lot of chatter about him!!!

I honestly feel this is a draft to lose the lotto on. Last years was amazing and was a much needed win. This year, I feel the Hawks can get Cayden Lindstrom or Zayne Parekh in their position. Which will likely be 3-5!!!

I think the best parts of his game are his vision and quick processor - he sees - he does - in a blink. While it can be said for most players - Parekh will benefit greatly by playing with other players that think the game at a very high level like a Bedard because he will be on the same wavelength as them and that will result in special plays happening.

While I still consider Celebrini the best player in this draft and hope we can get #1 to select him - but maybe having a couple team win the lottery and push the Hawks down a spot or two would make it more probable they take Parekh - who is quickly becoming my 2nd favorite player in this draft.

Celebrini is exactly the type of player I would want to add to the mix right now if I am KfC. he is a sure fire center and the complement to 98 we need, imo.

Those games vs Michigan he got exposed. And they didn’t use him much at the end of the games. I could be dead wrong, but I don’t look at his points, they’re definitely solid, but not over the top. The Russian big kid may actually be the best, but does he come over? And when? So those 2 are out for me. Not saying they’ll be bad. But we should be looking at the better skaters that actually have talent. Parekh definitely fits that mold. And he’s sick!!!

Celebrini is captain material and a bona-fide center. I'm starting to have doubts that 98 is best suited to play down the middle.

We have a few prospects we could trade to get that Tampa Bay pick high enough to get both Parekh and a top six guy to play on Bedard's line, either Lindstrom or Eiserman. Of course, We'd like to get Celebrini, but not counting on that happening. Thanks for the info on Parekh, ER.

He oozes everything the Hawks have been saying they want. Sure he’s not the big bruiser. But we got him. Vlasic is more than fine. Size is not an issue on the back end!!!

The Devils officially out of the playoffs. The Hawks team looking eerily similar to that team. Devils got Bahl, Hawks got Vlasic. They got Hughes, Hawks got Bedard. They’ve got Hischer, Hawks got Reichel. They’re very very similar. I’m not saying I wouldn’t take Celebrini. What I’m say is the Hawks more than likely won’t get the 1st overall. I would actually bet on it. What I’m seeing is 3-5. Hawks more than likely get 2nd worst. So I’d say it’s safe to say Hawks get pick 2-4. According to this, they have a 70% chance to get pick 3-4 if they finish 2nd worst. www.tankathon.com/nhl/pick_oddsSo I’m more looking at it realistically here instead of hanging on to hope. I would have to think my two guys are either Parekh or Lindstrom. Both offensively gifted and both have very good skating. Especially Parekh. His skating is known as elite. Lindstrom is about 6’4”. His skating isn’t bad per se. But he’s huge and is about average for now. Once he gets comfy with his body, you’ll see him break out. Like I said. There’s a couple of Russo dmen I think I stay away from. I get that Levshunov kid is compared to Petrangelo. But I’m not sold on him for some reason. I think the Hawks have the size thing down. Just need that #1 dman that produces a shit ton of points. Maybe Korchinski is that guy. It’s definitely possible. But why not go with a kid that broke the OHL record for 16 year old dmen scoring? Then followed that up with a 96 point 33 goal campaign as a 17 year old? That’s my thoughts. I think Parekh with his skating can jump into the NHL after another year of Jrs. Let him go back and play for team Canada, just like Korchinski. By then, Korchinski will be on his 3rd year and Parekh could come in and be paired with him!!!

I don't recall if I watched the video on Parekh that you posted but I've seen several videos on him and all get the juices going. Obviously you know - highlight videos and even analysis videos tend to give a rosier picture than you would get watching him in games - but watching him in games is still very impressive. I see him make plays that shows his quick mind to see best play open to him and then execute it very quickly - whether it's a pass or him skating with the puck. I've read criticism of his defense but haven't really seen anything egregious - especially for a 17 year old d-man. The thing I see is that he has the "want to" and therefore we can expect the deficiencies in his defensive game can be improved. Plus, it's not like there are many elite offensive d-men that are also elite defensively - you can probably count them all on one hand.

I gotta disagree with ya pretty strongly on Celebrini, though. that kid is a center all day long. much more so than Bedard. Levshunov is not an elite skater, but he isn't awful by any stretch. but, as we all know, the brass seem to be very taken with the idea of skating being the be all/end all, so I'd imagine Parekh is flying up the board and will only continue to do so if he has a strong playoff/Memorial Cup run. which works for me!

I think we all agree with you that the likelihood of getting Celebrini is very low. my only disagreement there is on your opinion of him. I agree that not getting #1 could end up being a blessing BUT it also means not getting the top center that we will need down the road, because we almost will have to take a d-man where we end up picking as that is where the value will be. I would add that I believe Lindstrom is more likely to be a power forward/wing vs a center. maybe he ends up a Draisaitl type that switches back and forth, depending on the matchup? could happen, but I'm not so sure. it feels to me like a defenseman is all but assured with our first pick (unless we get 1oa). I'm honestly more interested in what KfC does with the other pick now. trading up and grabbing another top 10 guy would be my preference, but I'm also waiting to see who drops.

I think we’ll end up with 2 wingers if the Hawks take Celebrini. I get it. If you have the first overall, gotta take the kid. This is why I’m hoping the Hawks don’t get the 1st. I believe it’ll be a blessing. Kinda like when Colorado was the worst team and they lost the lotto and picked 4th. They got Makar. That’s how I’m thinking. I don’t think I want any of those Russo players. And not for the reasons most think. It’s all for the reasons we know. The contracts, the government. Look at that goalie in Philly. He signed a deal with Philly the other year and they made him join the navy for a year and he had to come out of hockey. We never know. I understand that the Mich State kid is already here. But he looks like he’s got some heavy boots. Not sure the Hawks take him!!! I gotcha. Question for all what happens if Saginaw wins the OHL tourney? Gotta see the kid play so ill through down on the second round of playoffs
