It would be great to see him stay within the org in some role. Can that Swedish assistant coach and let Seabs jump in. Then you'd have to fire Brookbank, the legend. He's the defensive coach. If we assume coaching is in his future I’d rather see Seabrook go to Rockford and coach up the kids rather than trying to coach a bunch of ex-teammates.

Too often, star goalies decline quickly after signing big contracts. We have been down this road before with both Huet and Khabibulin. Price and Quick are not what they were, but both carry enormous contracts. Would Tallon like to turn back the clock on the contract he gave out last summer? Perhaps. Instead of re-signing Lehner long term, the more prudent approach would be to offer Crawford a short (one or two year) deal at $2.5 M/year. Then sign a quality backup over the summer, or promote a Rockford goalie. Georgiev is on the market, according to Elliote Friedman. Would the Rangers take Sikura for him? And Vasilevskiy signs a big one as well, but at least he’s young. And isn’t Luongo still on the books from two teams? Next year Markstrom who’s had a fairly unremarkable career is a UFA, wonder who overpays for him. Lehner will want term and money. I like the Crawford idea you propose and some others agree with here. Seems sensible and monetarily sound.

Clearly, I way overestimated Lehner and Gustafsson's value as trade chips - though I do believe Bowman hesitated for far too long (as usual) to make the move for maximum value. Gus should have been traded last summer. Lehner should have been moved a month (or two) ago around the time I started this thread.
But we do need to keep things in perspective; the prospects and picks he acquired are better than nothing.
For years, I have suggested the smart approach for a rebuild it to spend all UFA dollars on reclamation projects on one year deals.
I loved the Lehner signing last summer because I saw the potential to add without subtracting. Signing Lehner cost the team nothing long term. Trading him added three additional pieces to the mix.
I believe Bowman should take the same approach this summer. Add players on very short term deals.

The thought of Stan Bowman making terrible moves to a team that needs to be younger and better is nauseating. None of his moves have really panned out. Even the ones that look good end up biting him in the taint. It’s just time he walks away from hockey, he’s just not good at it!!!
