Dach will have to continue to improve at the dot but he did go from 33-40%,bad wrist and all. What really hurt was Suter's 42% and Kurachev's 41% since they saw bigger minutes with better players. Yet Dylan Strome is called a failure @47%!

Twenty eight as a rook and forty one with Strome and F'n Perlini tells me D-Cat gets his regardless unless he's on a checking line all F'n year........WTF! Nolander did see top six minutes over D-Cat last year though and if we see that again next year........... is there any question JC is unfit to serve?

As T-man2010 said, Kampf is a good 4th-line center...and is what he is in spite of his lack of O. Strome was supposed to be our #1C with Toews out and as such, needed to be 50% or better at the dot in my opinion. He wasn't. However, in my estimation it was Strome giving up on plays and not bringing it every game that was more of his failure than his numbers at the dot. We could have mitigated his numbers at the dot. It's hard to mitigate any player when they stop skating and give up on a play. When Strome was on he was very good, but when he just was out there going through the motions that hurt the team. In his role, he needs to be on as much as possible (be it our #1C when Toews is out or our #2C when Toews is in). Suter and Kurashev are rookies, so while their failures at the dot were bigger than Strome's they were also in their 1st season of NHL play. Just like Dach and his wrist that has to be a consideration for them. However, coming next season if they are still with the 'hawks, if they are deployed as centers, the expectation for being better at the dot has to be there.

I don’t know if it’s in spite of him. But if Toews, Nylander and Dach were all here this season. Does Dcat get the opportunity to do what he did? And will he get it next year? I think the stars aligned properly for him, but JC has proven he can F*** that up pretty quickly!!! Twenty eight as a rook and forty one with Strome and F'n Perlini tells me D-Cat gets his regardless unless he's on a checking line all F'n year........WTF! Nolander did see top six minutes over D-Cat last year though and if we see that again next year........... is there any question JC is unfit to serve?I agree, but how much of that is JC and how much of that is Bowman the Beancounter pulling the strings so it looks like he's the smartest guy in the room?

He’s just not NHL material. Not many forwards stay in the league with a goal every 48 games. Nice guy, but I find it hard to believe there isn’t better out there. I think Carpenter could’ve better given all the minutes Kampf gets. What they should do is simply this. TOEWS, Kane, Hagel, STROME, Dcat, Kubalik, DACH, Gaudette, Hinostrozza, CARPENTER, Entwhistle, Kurashev. This way Kurashev can feast on 4th line minutes and hopefully dominate and work his way up the way he’s supposed to. No room for Suter, Hino, Kane and Dcat. Just look at the Panthers/Bolts series and see why. If this lineup here can’t make the playoffs, then you know 100% it’s time to blow this up!!!

If he’s on a line with steady wingers that learn his habits, the wingers will win more for him. He can get to 50+% I don’t doubt. Let Dach learn from the 3rd line up. My main concern is Toews will be 34 at the end of next season. He could be entering 3rd line center any year now. So keeping Strome and Dach may be the best bet here. Also, if they’re gonna give Borgstrom a whirl. Cool. Give him 3/4 line duties to start and let him earn his way. As Toews gets older, it’d be nice to have at least 2 real good bigger centers. Dach, Borgstrom and Strome are all 6’4”. That could be a nice 1,2,3 punch right up the middle. I sure hope they keep Strome. If they don’t, the larger picture here is that Stan more than likely lost another trade by a mile and 3/4. That’s really what’s setting this team back. All the failed trades and drafts!!!

Kampf is the new Krueger. 4th LC and PK FO guy since JT is unavailable. Now to teach him how to throw his body into the pile like a bowling bowl. One should consider a couple of things about Kampf's stats:
1- During his regular shifts, who is it that he's going up against? 2- What's his FO% when killing penalties.
I don't have the answers to those questions, but I'd bet his % against other 4th liners is better than his % against other teams' 1, 2, and 3 liner centers. (The other Hawks' centers are usually facing the better lines/face off men.) I'd also bet that his % on the PK is not very good, mainly because (and I think most of us that have watched the games would agree) it seems like we are always losing those face offs, and he is usually the man JC has chosen to begin the PK. Just plainly put, the Hawks need a better faceoff man (or two/three) and the sooner the better. Toews coming back would help, but still need another dependable guy (not wearing #64) to have out there on the PK face offs .

Don't get me wrong my friend,'mein Kampf' is nothing better than a 4LC on a bottom tier team but he still wins more draws and plays better D than any of our other centers and that's hard to swallow. Yeah...."best center on the team" is a bit hyperbolic,I'd love a 4LC who could pot 8-10 regularly and offer some bigtime snarl too but those are qualities 'mein Kampf' is unfamiliar with.

You either play Strome with D-Cat or you trade Strome.....this ain't rocket science. Dach has a lot of room to grow and some nice tools,Strome can be a non-physical floater at times and Borgsrtom seems to thrive on the BIG ice.......but Do any of the three have a mean bone in their body? What would happen if they were in a series like the one we saw start last night?

You know I don't like dealing with absolutes, but even if they don't improve at the dot there's other ways of deploying them--even not as centers. Plus there's a little more to center than simply faceoffs. Even so, I did a little digging: Only 3 centers since 2010 (with 82 or more GP total) have over 50% for the 'hawks: Toews, Kampf, and Kruger. So even if my +50% for a top-6 center is high, I'll still stand by it. 47.2% was Bolland, and I think Bolland does prove that you can be more than a FO wizard to be a decent center--especially a bottom-6 center. Strome is next on the list--at 46.6%. Other notables are Anisimov (45.1%) Carpenter (44%), Schmaltz (38.3%), and Dach (36.8%). In my estimation on this, Strome won't be successful unless he's on a loaded line like Anisimov was and does the things that Anisimov did to clear the way for Panarin and Kane--and that's where his heart comes into play. Will he give his all every game? Will he go to the dirty areas? Will he give up on plays and make Debrincat, Kane, etc. do all the dirty work? If he can step up, fine. If not, the 'hawks don't need another Nylander-like prima donna. But I have to ask, if Suter and Kurashev at ~42% are a problem, then what does that make Dach? He's worse at the dot than Schmaltz was. "Done here"? He's the team's best F'n center for God's sake......let THAT sink in! I think once Toews is back, Strome could easily slide in and be a #2. Strome might just be the ineffective, pouting floater you say he is without D-Cat but he has been effective with D-Cat so why keep Strome and then refuse to play him with the one player he's flourished with most of his hockey life?

Every time I see the Debrincat thread updated I'm worried he was traded, glad it's highlights lol I've seen some GREAT wingers come and go with the Hawks over the last 50 plus seasons and this kid might look as good as any of em @23. He potted 41 as a 21yro skatin' with Strome and Perlini for God's sake and was on pace for 50 last year skating with fairly average linemates.....what he's been able to do offensively without Kane 5 on 5 is what makes him stand out to me as much as his stellar all around play. It's not like the kid fattened up his stats by gettin' set up a half dozen times a game with JT.......he's rarely played with JT and it's not like Kane's made him better either.....he usually only sees time with PK on the PP. Put D-Cat with a top center who can set him up like most goal scorers have and a power forward on his off wing who can do the dirty work and look out for the kid and we might see a perennial 40-50 goal scorer who plays defense and can kill penalties.........find me another one of those! I'm not sure everyone realizes the Tiger we got by the tail with this little Cat and when it's all said and done, that '19-20' season will stick out like a sore thumb on his career stat sheet......let's hope we don't see any more sore thumb!

I'm hoping for a similar progression to Crawford: One bad year and a fuckton of the rest good or better. 2012 sticks out like a sore thumb which some bandwaggoners latch onto. He still managed to push out a .918 on the career which is damned good--like top 5 amongst goalies with 450 or more games in their career since the 2005 lockout. If El Gato can be a reliable high 20's or better goal scorer over his career that's money--like Kane money without the assists.

Keep him off a checking line and he'll have 20 by all star break.....every year and Kane's a better passer but he's also nowhere near as good defensively and never has been. Some will point to his 18 goal(70 game) season but he skated with human garbage that year and he was still 4th in team scoring,1 point behind Kubalik who was set up point blank a half dozen times a game.....D-Cat woulda potted 40 or more with JT that year. Let's hope the worst HC in the league doesn't have a hard on for him ever again........D-Cat made a lot of people look real stupid this year and will do so for many more to come.(not you.....just sayin')

I've seen some GREAT wingers come and go with the Hawks over the last 50 plus seasons and this kid might look as good as any of em @23. He potted 41 as a 21yro skatin' with Strome and Perlini for God's sake and was on pace for 50 last year skating with fairly average linemates.....what he's been able to do offensively without Kane 5 on 5 is what makes him stand out to me as much as his stellar all around play. Right on, Bob. He has a great future ahead of him, and I hope it's with the Blackhawks. That depends on how happy he'll be watching PO games on TV every year.......he doesn't seem like the kind of player who will be.

It's possible...if we don't have a Timbits™ coach and a beancounter for a GM.
