I just finished watching video of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs run by the Blackhawks, as shown on the NHL network. I really can appreciate the contributions of many of the "lesser" players to the team's success. Bickell was a monster, especially in front of the net. His tying late goal vs Boston in game 6 was an example of what the present team has been lacking most of the time (if not ALL of the time). If it wasn't for his health situation, he would have been a major part of future Hawks team's efforts. I hope he is doing well and can live a long and enjoyable life now with his family. Losing Hossa was a severe blow to the Hawks. He was such a great all-around player. Hope the best for him, also, now that his playing days are over. The 2013 team often dug down and found a way to win, even when they were near elimination. You just never knew who would be making the great play (either offensively or defensively), but someone would rise to the occasion to keep the team on the way to the Cup. The present roster has too many young, inexperienced players, and too many older ones that are on their final parts of their careers. The core cannot do it alone. After watching this video, I was reinforced that we, Blackhawks fans, were very fortunate to have been able to witness such a great run to winning 3 Cups in such a relative short period of time. Maybe we became spoiled, but at least we have those fond memories to draw on. A lot of other team's fans don't have as much to fondly remember. GREAT post 27! I mostly remembered Bicks for the game one OT winner and his physical exploits against Boston too BUT he was a beast all PO's long. Game 5 against the Wings saw Kronwall doggin' JT all game until Bicks knocked him outta the game early in the 3rd with a HUGE but clean hit. The Shaw,Bickell,Stallberg line was 'on the body' and kept the Detroit D on their toes. Game 6 today and game 7 tomorrow on Comcast......two of the most rewarding games in any of the runs, both reinforced my unwavering support at the time! I believe Bickell would have been a worthwhile signing if he doesn't get sick and Hoss,Sharp and Hammer were all HUGE losses.

Lotta issues at play here and I will selfishly admit that I want hockey back and I'll let the powers that be work it out. This will require massive amounts of testing and IF done correctly should protect players, coaches and necessary support staff. One possible issue at the moment is the reliability of the quick,'point of use' tests that reportedly had failure rates of 15% and higher but that's for the powers that be. I do wonder what could be if testing is reliable and available though.... Could a venue allow 3-5K recently tested spectators with the social distancing a mostly empty arena would allow.....it'd sound a lot better than an empty arena IMO. Maybe make only young, local fans who face far less severe outcomes should a transmission happen....just spitballin' on that one. Have there been mentions of venues yet?

The South Koreans were hit hard by covid, yet shortly after a short lock down they were playing baseball in empty stadiums. They used temperature testing each day for the athletes every time they entered the stadium whether to practice or play games. At the time they felt this type of testing more expedient and accurate. Now it's a given baseball isn't a contact sport. Yet there have been no players test positive since. I read that a couple of players had been sidelined for temperature however when tested they were negative.
No fans will likely be in the arena, but if they were to consider allowing it this type of testing to me would be deemed sufficient I think. If youre running hot that day you're just not allowed in players or fans.

There's been Bundesliga soccer in Germany the last few weeks and afaik noone's tested positive as of yet.[that's a quasi contact sport]

So, does this mean the Hawks officially would have "made the playoffs"?
Bowman would gain a merit badge.
Colliton would gain a merit badge.
We would gain another headache.

We would gain another headache. i highly doubt SB or JC are happy with this season and i highly doubt they're pinning badges on themselves. the one and only reason we're in is because the league wants more $$ from playoff t.v. revenue. everyone knows that. i wouldn't think SB/JC are breathing huge sighs of relief thinking that their jobs are somehow more secure. jmo.

Hawks play the Blues. 5 game series. Hawks will be back home in less than a week. Top 4 teams in each conference will play each other to determine who gets seeded 1 thru 4. The remainder will play 5 vs 12, 6 vs 11, 7 vs 10, 8 vs 9. So it will be Hawks vs Edmonton in the play in 5 game series.

The Hawks will look at this as a season where they made the playoffs, made strides under Bowman/Colliton, and they'll remain for at least next season. And based on the fact next season is being delayed due to this, I would not be surprised that they get a couple more years.
Go Panthers.

if our front office is that delusional then i might cheer for the panthers as well. but i don't think they're that delusional. i mean....i know delusional. i'm delusional. but i'm not that delusional. and being an expert on delusional, i can say that you'd have to be delusional to think management is that delusional. : )

Anyone have any info on how the draft would work? If there’s a playoffs a transpiring, that means trades at the draft will not be happening unless it’s just pics for pics or prospects for pics. This is gonna be a little too weird and vanilla for me!!!

I liked the second reason the best. 😉 yeah. i liked the fourth reason along with the second. the first and third reasons didn't really blow my hair back though. just overall playoff experience has to give chicago some kind of an edge, even though we've got quite a few who've never skated in a p/o game. (connor murphy being one, but not worried about him)

(connor murphy being one, but not worried about him) made a bit of a mistake here, or at least i never realized the oilers had as much playoff experience as they do. going by each team's rosters in their last game of the season and adding those deemed likely to return for the playoffs (i added dehaan, seeler and caggiula for chicago but didn't add zack smith)...here's the numbers. our forwards have 357 p/o games, our defensemen have 238 games, and our goalies have 87 games (all crawford). 682 games total. JC has 0 p/o games obviously. the oilers' forwards have 251 career playoff games, the defense has 180 and their goalie tandem has 24 games (all mike smith). 455 games total. coach tippet has 74 p/o games in his coaching career. the kicker here is that we have 11 players that make up our 682 p/o games but the oilers have 17 players making up their 455 games. so i should have looked at the numbers before claiming such an advantage of experience in the playoffs. i gotta' say i was a bit surprised the oilers numbers were that high.
