Too early to call KD a moron in my mind, the garbage heap he was left was unenviable. Not bringing back Toews & Kane? While I appreciate that both could have some value if they buy into becoming mentors, do we have a template for future success where the club kept/brought back its aging stars during a rebuild? I guess running through historical SC champs and how they were built would be the play, but I need to brew some beer today. Can't slide down that online research rabbit hole! Toews' highlight reel for me is his rookie year crossover/inside out goal v. Colorado(?), his setup to Kane finish off the Kings in OT, and his pass through Chara's legs to set up Bickell. I've liked a fair amount of what KD has done thus far, but I still feel it appropriate to label him as such in this situation. there is not one good reason to not bring Toews back if he wants to continue playing next season. he won't make them win too many games, he is great in the room and on the bench with the younger guys, and he can lead the rebuild for another year and allow the young guys to have less pressure on them while he talks to the media as the face of the team. I just don't get it, but I also believe Toews is going to retire, so I guess maybe they just wanted to put it out there so tonight can be a party. Ill try to explain it this way when the Hagel trade was made 88 and 19 question the trade. As long as 88 and 19 are around its not KDs team. This has nothing to do with making it easier for the next group this has everything to do with making it easier for KD. Hoping for party atmosphere tonight , would like to see Rollerball and dead poets movie clips during the breaks. Might wear the red hard hat tonight but that might be a little much people seeing some old man in a hard hat struggling to walk up stairs. Im sure during the off season we will all leave a little tribute piece to 88 and 19.For tonight THANK YOU for everything Johhny!!!!!

Confirmed. Toews will not be back. And I’m sure that goes for Kane too. End of an era. I personally believe Toews will retire. Once he takes a couple of weeks to go over everything, I think he just decides it’s best to just move on with his life after hockey. It’s on NHL.com. Wouldn’t let me post it!!! You'll sleep well tonight.

I just don't get it, but I also believe Toews is going to retire, so I guess maybe they just wanted to put it out there so tonight can be a party. I am hoping that this is the case and that he's mentally good with it, and that it IS a party tonight. Will sort of completely close that chapter of Hawks' history, at least its nostalgic now and not painful like 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. I'll never understand the desire to close what was the greatest "chapter" in Chicago hockey........I'm more than happy to dwell in the pride and glory of it for the rest of my life. Especially when I consider this team's next few years, and it's past few. Painful? I'll be pleased to buy you and your family dinner at the restaurant of your choice the next time the Hawks reach the WCF my fiend. Tampa got swept by an 8th seed too before you remind me but the BJ's didn't go on to play in the SCF 's like the Preds did.

If this is true, thanks for the memories tazer! Best 7 or 8 years of my hawks life! As far as KD goes time will tell but right now he looks unappreciative of anybody. If Jonny wants back he should be signed to a low end deal out of respect. His choice only! There is no such thing as a total rebuild in professional sports anymore, it'a win now or else business. Nobody wants to go to a losing franchise! We have an all star team spread across the nhl right now but bowman and kd have made horrendous moves! This GM will not last!

Let's go back to 2013 playoff versus Wings and the three straight penalties and Seabs coming over and consoling him in the box. He scores a big goal in Game 5 and the rest is history. If Hawks lose this series, obviously no cup in 2013 and likely not in 2015 either.

Speaking of beast mode, 2013 game 6 Hawks down early and seemingly not going anywhere until Johnny off a face off, goes by Chara and slips it through Rask's five hole. From that point on the game changed and even though Bruins scored in middle of third you can see the Hawks were no longer playing on their heels and Johnny lead the way. That is what they call he "willed" the team and put them on his back. Just special player, individual and teammate. There was a reason he was named the youngest Hawks captain at 20 years old.

A buddy of mine. Actually 2 is f them text me today. One works in the NHL and one is an amateur scout. As in scouts for an OHL team. They both said the same things. Sucks it has to end this way. Too bad Toews didnt go out on his own terms.
It sucks to see him go. It sucks to see the end of an era. But we all knew it would end. And we all knew it was nigh. It is what it is. Thanks brother Toews. I’m a sick twisted way. I hope he retires and is purely a Hawk fro start to finish!!!

In a video above, the HC says 'it's good for Toews to go out on his terms" and insinuates he's finished........ www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/36177732/blackhawks-re-sign-jonathan-toews-set-finale-send-offJr proudly admits he wants no part of Toews going forward and that's "his terms"? Because they did a 'night' for him? The Lil fella also expects him to play next year "but that's a conversation for him".......blow me 'half-soldier! "Organic growth" ? My landscaper put a nice layer of that stuff on my raised beds today!LOFL!!!!!! Bullshit's organic growth.......no? So let's bring in over-paid,washed-up bums to reach the floor(which will take some doing) VS doing a year-long Jonathan Toews retirement tour, complete with all the good will and pomp and circumstance a great, accomplished player like him deserves, not to mention the resulting revenue. This is a all-around bad decision for a franchise already in in free fall in the eyes of it's fanbase. Maybe Rockwell's back on his meds or maybe 'The Family' won't meddle, and they'll let the inexperienced, millennial make all the petulant, vindictive and disrespectful decisions he wants........I see 'pod-caster' in his future.

absolutely fitting that it is Jonny left to turn out the lights. it'll be fun over the years seeing he and the boys come back from time to time. I'm glad he got his night, unlike literally almost everyone else from those teams.

If his asking price or duration was unpalatable, then yeah, don't bring him back. I hate to say it but it's the truth. If Toews wanted a deal that would have been muti-year at a significant chunk of leftover cap then yeah, it was time to part ways. If not--if it was low-cap and short duration then we could certainly have done WORSE than Toews...as long as it's understood that he won't be *the* guy. But yeah, I do have this feeling that Toews is going to hang 'em up...and I think it would be the best for him and his legacy.

I think they just wanted to get it over with and be done with it, rather than wait to see what Tazer decides this summer. now there is nothing hanging over the team, except that they suck. now, ALL eyes are on Kyle. I'm hoping he turns out to be a good one. I still don't agree with the move, but I get it.
