One thing to keep in mind. And we’ve discussed this many many times on here. Hockey players give up a lot in terms of doing personal things. There’s hockey during March break. Since the time they’ve been 6/7, most kids are on the ice now year round. Maybe not games, but training. After school they’re gone 3 days a week to practice. The weekends have games. So they’re not allowed to be kids so to speak.
Now Toews looks like he’s making up for lost time and has the financial means to do whatever he wants. I couldn’t be happier for him. I’m sure it crushes him not to play. As he’s done nothing but hockey for the past 30 years. And I’m sure it crushes him that the Hawks turned away from him.
He has nothing left to accomplish in hockey. I love to see him enjoying life. Not worried about failing a drug test. I’m sure at burning man he was on shrooms. Enjoy it all Johnny!!!

recent picture of the captain surfing off of vancouver island. i'm happy to see it looks like he's healthy and enjoying life. It kinda looks like he's walking on water... Yeah, I'd say that's about right!

Yeah, I'd say that's about right! Sounds right to me. Hopefully he's back with the Hawks one day in some capacity. Him and Seabs would look great behind the bench.

Him and Seabs would look great behind the bench. I would truly love that! That said, it does seem as though Tazer is truly enjoying life AFTER hockey. That doesn't mean he won't begin to miss it enought to become a coach, but I do think the evidence suggests that the odds are not in our favor. Tazer was a very intense hockey player and while that intensity can wreak havoc on opponents it can also wreak havoc on one's love for the game over time, especially insofar as being a coach which is like a 24/7 job. I don't know, but I do believe that Toews would cringe at the thought of being a coach with all of the year-round time is would take. I do think if eventually Seabs were to become coach, THAT might cause Tazer to see things differently. Still, I won't hold my breath at that either. Ya know, I really can't blame our GM by the way he chose to separate the team from Tazer and Kaner, but it does feel a tad bit cold and that doesn't seem to help either. We'll see, but I don't think it's likely.

I have an acre and wish I knew ahead of time about the 1/4 acre + in back but it was fall ond covered in leaves. Nothing but brush with poison ivy and oak and been trying to clear it for over a year. Most all is dead and dried now so come Oct I've got a propane blow torch to finish it and make sure it doesn't come back. Then I'll grade and seed it to have a lawn in back. Also did y'all have to run the electric and water to your land or was it there already?

It's a beyond apt comparison, and if Toews was on boomers, it would be another thing the two captains have in common. Messier told an awesome story about how they've affected him and made him a better captain on Hockey Talk: link

Also did y'all have to run the electric and water to your land or was it there already? Hey Creetch! Crestwood still exists. My dad with the ripe old age of 87 is still there. I suppose Mike Gatski is not anymore? I put up the pic with the Stanley Cup ring on his finger. I still have the Hawk Dynasty trinkets you shared with me. I keep all of them in my workshop these days. When I was still teaching and having a den, I kept them there. Yes, we do have 5.16 acres that looks up at the awesome Bitterroot Mountains which are part of the Rockies. I'd like to put a torch to much of my acreage to rid myself of unwanted prairie grasses. However, we've had a really bad summer with several weeks of 95 to 105 F temps. Yup, dry as a bone. It's usually lightning strikes that create the many fires we have been getting. The worse one for use was just a few miles from the mountains. I just missed the lightning strike, but I did immediately see what it did! There would be about 3000 acres afire while enlisting over 600 firefighters working day and night in the facing mountains fighting these things. Many folks had to evacuate their homes. We are just now getting used to clear, non-smokey air after several weeks of it all around the Bitterroot Valley.
