yup, he shines the brightest with elite around him, but also sinks with the sh1t. Hes never been the one to lead a line. right now, im just hoping for a 20g-50pts season. thats his average, right? Doesn't everyone. He averages 27 goals and 35 assists with a sh% of 13.9 although he is only at 6.8% this year. His lack of pts. is due to his sh% not work ethic. due to the lockout shortened season/injuries etc., if you extrapolate his numbers (before this season) to an 82 game season he's at 30.7 goals and 40.2 assists. (you'll never know how long i've been waiting to work the word "extrapolate" in a sentence.)

I agree. Time to find that elite wing to play with Toews so he can be better. Otherwise he’ll continue playing the way hes played thru 1/3 of this season. Damn Bowman and JC He doesn't need an elite wing,he just can't carry crap and produce...….Kane get's the elite wingers anyway. lol not sure if youre agreeing or disagreeing. Toews need better linemate (linemates?) to produce better than what he has done so far, thats what youve been saying, right? But because he doesnt, we shouldnt expect better of him, his play is not his fault lol

I think it’s time for the Hawks to shed some salary and make a realistic move. I’m more in the rebuild category, but for a wee moment let’s say I’m not. Taylor Hall is more than likely gonna be traded. He’s 28 with low miles on him. He hasn’t sniffed the playoffs yet. Getting him would be similar to the Pens getting Kessel. I would not be afraid to give him an 8 year deal. Hall would make Toews line impressive. Personally I would deal Saad, Mitchell, and a pick for him. I’d also find a new home for Gustafsson, or somehow include him in that deal. I´m all for this. If we can resign Hall for a reasonable price. I don´t like the idea of having a 36 year old overpaid winger in 8 years time. Play can drop quickly after a player reaches 30 years old. Switch either Mitchell or the pick for Gustafsson if the Devils takes the bite.

when did Jonny use his linemates as an excuse? Thank god JT havent, just the hardcore fans giving his play passes the point was more that he hasn't, nor will he ever, blamed his linemates, teammates, coaches, owner, or anyone else for his lack of production. I have yet to see anyone give him a pass, especially himself. Jonny has always had issues putting too much pressure on himself, which invariably leads to him squeezing it a little to hard. I am sure there are plenty of us, myself 100% included, that go a little easier on him than others. I don't have a problem with it because of all he has already done for this franchise. would I like to see him scoring more? sure. but, it seems to me like a lot of less than hardcore fans jump on him solely based on numbers and that is unfair, imo. that goal by Dcat against NJ is an example. Tazer did the work in front of the net and D🐈 got the goal. he does that shit night in and night out. he'll almost certainly retire multiple seasons before 88 does because of the abuse he has endured during his career, comparatively. he probably isn't Captain Serious as much any more. all the winning allowed for a different worldview. but he is still the Captain and by god I hope that he is for quite a few more seasons to come.

You said you expect his "norm" of 20 goals and 50 points if he improves but a quick look at his career shows 20 and 52 to be his worst year ever when he missed ten games...…..how is that his "norm"? If you think paying a proven, elite center huge money and then giving him hapless fucking linemates is a good idea then you should be pleased,Sikura and Nylander have FOUR goals between em in 81 games......Nylander's last ten games have produced ONE point and he's awful without the puck . He showed what he could do playing with Kane...….don't you expect a drop off playing with Nylander? Are Saad or Nylander set-up men? Kane's a set up man and that resulted in 35 goals last year as it should have. You said you don't know if I'm agreeing or disagreeing and your right because I'm doing both...... Linemates aside,he should have a handful more goals since he's back on the PP...….I agree. Five more at this point would put him on a pace for 30.....his ACTUAL average. He should have more assists at this point too,so I guess I agree there as well but that would require his linemates to finish more of the half dozen or so set-ups they get every game from what I see. Do you believe he just deteriorated that much from last year or do you believe he doesn't give the effort since you totally discount the quality of his linemates?

I like what you say about the Dcat goal. Hard work and opportunistic goals. So why not give Toews what he needs, the guy who has some of the quickest hands on the team and who’ll go to the net to get those loose pucks. I’m talking about Kubalik again. Wasn’t he brought over because he could score and because he won the MVP in the Swiss league? I’m just wondering how it would have worked out if Dom had pulled 20+ games on Toews right side. Weren’t Saad, Kubalik and Kampf their best line early? Can upgrading your center between those two be a bad thing?

30+ per season would be OK for such salary and cap hit.Rewarding factor already included (even I don't like it).But now he's on pace to score 12 goals and his line doesn't work regardless who else is there. Those two contract's (plus Seabs') are major issue killing the Hawks as they got fake top line center and fake top 2 dman and so they can't afford true ones. Also this complain is about SB not Toews/Seabs. But the biggest disapointment this season is DCAT ($6.4M) with 4 goals while he's playing with Kane.Actually Toews and DCAT huge scoring decline could be the the main reason of Hawks terrible PP this season.
You call Toews a "fake" center but you're complaint isn't about him? YES,Toews should have 4-6 more goals at this point which would put him at a high 20's-30 pace but would 4-6 more goals make any difference at all as far as the teams outlook? The 8.6M spent on Maata and de Haan would have afforded a top 2 D-man but we just got more bottom four D-men instead. The season K&T had last year playing together was no fluke, even while CARRYING a carrer AHL player for a lot of it. Kane set up Toews and Toews set up Kane and they both finished those set ups. JT still sets his line mates up but most go unfinished,Saad's having a decent year but he gets TONS of chances and Nylander just heels his into the crowd. Patrick Kane's is an example of true elite talent that gets his regardless of where he plays but getting his is his only responsibility when he's out there. I like D-Cat a lot but he's an interesting study at this point, his job is to score goals and little else yet we see only one more than the "fake" center who's 10yrs older and has played over 800 more games.....128 of those PO games and D-Cat's playing with Kane. Toews has been a major disappointment up to this point but smart money still says Toews picks up the pace at least enough to see his 13th straight year with 20goals to join only Kane and Ovi and 20 some goals might be all he has left in him, like it or not. If the team was magically able to move JT and Seab's contracts, would you trust SB to spend that money properly? I'm at a point where I'm good with moving any and all of the remaining core player because surrounding them with CRAP certainly hasn't worked and it would assure high 1st round picks for years and years to come! hey bob, I said fake TOP LINE center, not just fake center, that's a very big difference because it's exactly pointing to cap spending/management and .... GM, not that center alone.I guess I dont need explain further but just in case, because my bad English it could lead to some misunderstanding, I am not sure that "fake" is appropriate word, but I meant that as GM you can't spend $10.5M to as many centers as you would like to, so that one you give him 10.5M must be that true top line line center.
but it's funny, that since my post it seems Toews and DCAT both score in every game (unfortunatelly I cant watch these days)

Your English is fine MJ and you did say "TOP LINE" and that is a big difference......my bad. The word fake is inappropriate IMO because it means a 'phony' or an 'imposter', JT is NOT playing up to his salary at the moment but I don't see the guy as a 'phony' but it's not as bad as some things that have been said about him. You and others have every right to expect more from JT or any underperforming, high paid player but other "top line" centers like Kopitar(10M) usually are around high 20's in goals too and he and a few others have had down years......it's a tough job buddy!

We can have this conversation without the animosity and my last sentence was unnecessary. You have every right to want more for 10.5M as I told MJ but isn't carrying a line with Sikura or Nylander a tall order? When either of those wingers leave JT's line, they immediately go back to the AHL or the 4th line where they belong...….do top line centers usually have to carry these type of players on their line?

You have every right to want more for 10.5M as I told MJ but isn't carrying a line with Sikura or Nylander a tall order? When either of those wingers leave JT's line, they immediately go back to the AHL or the 4th line where they belong...….do top line centers usually have to carry these type of players on their line? It just keeps appearing to me they always throw guys like Sikura and Nylander on JT's line to boost their confidence or skill. But eventually it fails and JT's stats end up suffering giving the illusion he's not performing to $$ paid. And also not a fair comparison to Kane, 2 totally different type of players. Remember the failed Kane experiment at center during 2010-2011, 2011-2012 seasons? He is not a center but a play making winger, and arguably the best at it the last 10 years.

you're right. I'm giving him a pass. cuz he isn't playing poorly. so nothing to really give him a pass for.... and as far as him carrying a line, I never claimed that he has. he isn't that kind of player and never has been sooooo... why are we expecting him to now?
the argument regarding him carrying a line is infuriating and, frankly, asinine. he is not and never has been Patrick Kane. not the same kind of player at all. but, because they are joined at the hip, it seems like he is expected to be the same kind of player. how often are people complaining about 88 not playing defense, not killing penalties, cherry picking while the other team scores? o, that's right, he scores lots of points and that is his job so he gets a pass. so Toews doesn't get one for doing his job, or does he have to do his AND do the same thing Kaner does? ^ exactly my point. "he doesn't carry a line" you guys are just saying the same thing im saying, just in a different way. BUT, in addition to that, wouldn't it be nice if he could? and you answered that. I guess that's not to be expected. fair enough. it surely was not your point regarding his line carrying abilities that drew my ire, it was the comment regarding us fans making excuses for him. imo, that all stems from other fans complaining about him not doing something that he's never been capable of. it is a circular argument that has gone on for years now it seems, mostly related to the inability of some to separate his salary (and 88's) and what he is being paid that amount to do (and what 88 is being paid to do).

on the subject of carrying lines, here's a thought:
seeing as we know Kaner is able to carry one on his own and Tazer is not, why don't we let him play with our two best wingers not named Kane and let Kane play with a couple Sikuras? that was what Q did for years until Panarin arrived. maybe we should try it again.

You can't do that to Kane my friend!LOL! Sikura couldn't find the back of the net playing with Kane AND Toews for 1/4 season last year. Kane IS a better passer than JT(he's one of the league's best) and that's why I don't mind him with a Breadman or a D-Cat...….those two don't need carrying.

I respect that youre a hardcore fan of the core, including CC. But you go overboard when someone post a negative thing about them. calm down I go overboard with support when I consider the criticism to be overboard. When either of those wingers leave JT's line, they immediately go back to the AHL or the 4th line where they belong...….do top line centers usually have to carry these type of players on their line? i was agreeing with you bob, here is a post from previous page; "hsbob: .....Toews has been a major disappointment up to this point but smart money still says Toews picks up the pace at least enough to see his 13th straight year with 20goals ..... me: I'll share the optimism. I read somewhere that his career average shooting % is around 13.5 . So far he is shooting at a 5.5%. Hopefully he does pick up the pace. I still don't think he's capable of carrying a line. His defense has also gone down this season. He is better than what he shown so far. " i think disagreement of "carrying a line" is where it started, along with the next posts of "he sink with the sh1ts" i think in my part, its poor choice of words, along with the "lol", my apologies. but my claims didnt just came out of the blue, as if i have nothing to based them on you mentioned these players; Panik - granted he had a career yr with Toews, but Hossa was on that line as well. he also regressed when Hossa retired Saad and Nylander - they actually have better numbers and noticeably effective this season away from Toews. Kahun - last year was his first season, so no stats prior to compare, but from what he's doing in Pitt right now, it looks like he will be better than last year. Sikura - not going to disagree with you on this one but i digress, "carrying a line" is a matter of opinion. i'll agree we disagree
