any chance that Reichel could come over and play in juniors next season or is he pretty much gonna have to play in Rockford?

I have to say 1 season in the AHL would be best. He's only played a 38 game season on a larger ice surface. Best to see how he handles smaller ice and room to move. And over double the games. All honesty, I had wished they could have gotten him into a good junior program last year, but Covid. Nothing normal and short years for development no matter the league. I don’t see the point of breaking him into the NHL next year.

That's for sure. We've all heard the old expression about those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Let's hope the Hawks front office remembers past history and how they rushed Boqvist and Dach and how it didn't help them.

Has Reichel been selected by one of the junior teams in their import draft?

I would agree a season in the AHL is the best step. After two seasons in the DEL playing against older professional players, I think the AHL is at least somewhat of a step up so playing next season in the AHL would be better for his development than a third season in the DEL. I can't say how much of a step up the AHL is but he should get challenged more than in the DEL. I also hope Reichel realizes next season when either he or one of his teammates scores a goal at home, he's not going to hear the Can-Can. Apparently the Blackhawks were thinking the same thing about his development.

Boqvist only had 15 games at Rockford before being called up and he struggled early on. Fifteen games just isn't enough to prepare a young player for the NHL. Being 18 years old, I feel Dach would have benefitted from another year in juniors instead of going straight to the NHL. That's a big step. If going right to the NHL would have helped him, I would have expected more improvement and a better year this year, but I'm not so sure we saw that. Though his wrist injury could have been a factor. I was one of those that just didn't think he was really ready for the NHL at 18; few players are. Although apparently the front office did. He ended up scoring 8 goals his rookie year. That's just the way I see it.

I'm just saying I doubt those in charge would agree that they've been rushed.

If Stan or whoever were asked if they feel they rushed Boqvist, I'd bet they would fudge a little bit in their reply and say they would have preferred to leave him in Rockford but overall thought he was ready for the NHL. On Dach, they probably thought he was ready. I had thought he was called up due to injury (Murphy?) and they didn't really have any other decent options. I've been curious if the Hawks had the 10 game limit in mind when Dach finally started playing and thought he showed enough to go ahead and keep him. Or if they pretty much had decided from the start he would stay the whole year. I can't remember how he looked in his first ten games.

And it’s not like he totally dominated and was outclassing everyone. He had 73 points in 62 games. He should have went back to Jrs and “developed”, a word the Hawks brass doesn’t get. He should have played for the WJC that year for Canada. He would have been much better off to come into camp as a 19 year old and he would have been much better off. Boqvist needed a solid 2-3 years of development time. They gave him 1. Bob and I were talking about the Jets drafting Logan Stanley. I seen him first hand with my Spitfires and win a Memorial Cup. After he was drafted, he spent 2 more years in Jrs. Then he spent 2 years in the farm. Now he’s looking like a tough good NHL dman. They developed him. Boqvist should have been on the same spectrum. He should’ve went back to Jrs for a 2nd year. Then to the farm for a full year, maybe 2!!!

I agree he should have played in the WJC; wouldn't he have likely gotten to play in a prominent role for either the top line or the 2nd? And maybe have been one of the leaders of the team? For Boqvist, this has crossed my mind numerous times; it's related to your mention of AB needed 2-3 years development time. Let's say Boqvist hadn't been rushed up and had gotten more development time. What would we be seeing from Boqvist now? What kind of player would we see, as compared to what we've actually seen?

I thought Leddy was rushed by a year also due to moving Campbell and he developed some bad habits early on but he turned out to be a good D-man. I don't know if I have a point......just an observation. There was gonna be a big problem trying to re-sign Leddy but a better return than Ville Polkka woulda been nice.

The Hawks are far from he only team to rush a kid based on the team's needs but that's usually short sighted, the only need at that point should be the young player's proper development. Like we said, the Jets lost Buff,Trouba,Myers and Charot and still made sure Stanley had two years in the A. IMO,a young D-man better be a STUD to see the NHL before 20 or even 21 and even then a year of learning the team's system without the pressure of making big league mistakes goes a long way.

Let's say Boqvist hadn't been rushed up and had gotten more development time. What would we be seeing from Boqvist now? What kind of player would we see, as compared to what we've actually seen? I believe with Boqvist, we would see a kid more poised, and ready for action. As in he wouldn’t be reckless in his own end and he wouldn’t be the last guy back. Which is a terrible quality to have as a dman. Dmen who lead a rush, can’t stay up in the play, they have to migrate back to their position. I think defensively he’d be better. But I will admit JC doesn’t have a solid system and I doubt it’s being taught at the AHL level. I fear Boqvist may be too far gone. He’s allowed to run and gun and gets top minutes for sucking. Why would he change? Why isn’t the “great Communicator” telling him or teaching him to do the right things? I feel he’s been brought about the wrong way. I think too with Dach, the amount of big hits he’s taken since entering the league shows that he isn’t ready and he plays terribly reckless. Why? Because he wasn’t ready. Now the kid has to learn to play amongst men and take their hits, when he didn’t have much experience in the WHL. He’s a big big kid which helps his cause. But gotta be careful with him too. If he doesn’t even get 1/2 a point a game next year. He’ll have 3 years under his belt and absolutely nothing to show for it. The “B” word will be coming out soon on him. And Boqvist too. So I hope they can find a way soon to get through the inept direction the Hawks had them on!!!

There has to be a plan, and this is proof there is no plan. This is where someone who played the sport understands what a kid is going through. Stan clearly doesn’t understand this. Chevy clearly does. There is where the problem lies!!!

Breaking into the league as a 21-23yro D-man is nothing to be ashamed of and should be common place....it was not long ago. Maybe this gives the team a better look at guys like Carlsson or Gilbert before they were moved. The 200 games to assess a young D-man has fallen by the wayside the last few years with many teams but watch how Forsling now plays a solid all-around game and how Rutta has become a rugged, stay at home D-man tonight too. They just took a little longer.

But of course there are the exceptional guys like a Hedman, Ekblad, Makar, etc.... But Bo is not one of them type. He may be like them eventually with his offense, but not physically. He should aspire to be like a Keith on defense, stick work.

But if he had another year of underwhelming performance and his offense is mostly 2nd assists on other guys hard work, he’ll soon be labeled a bust. I know it’s not his fault he was rushed, and the team system looks like something Hollywood wrote up for the new Mighty Ducks, but he has to start to look like an NHL caliber player sooner than later!!!

Once the Hawks signed 21 yr. old Arvid Soderblom, I think the handwriting was on the wall for Tomkins. He wasn't considered a prospect so he would have taken playing time away from the others that have more of a chance.

I was really pulling for Moberg, he seemed to be getting better all season and really strung together a nice string of games at the end. Yet the Hawks sign another midget like Galvus, go figure. I hope Rockford signs him. I seem to remember the Josh Ess being in the same boat but he must have been signed.
