So year 2 of ELC wasted. Maybe Bowman will consider this a blessing when Dach's next contract is due to save cap space Not a fan to hear that. Dach’s ELC will be a total waste, and we will get no cap savings for this kid!!! Again, Stan is such a genius here. Letting your prize possession during a rebuild go play in this tournament may go down as the dumbest thing he has ever done and that's really saying something.

I broke my wrist when I was nineteen. It was during a spar with my roommate at the time as we were practicing our Tae Kwon Do. This guy was 6ft7in. I received his kick at my chest and fell violently backward. I tried to break my fall with my right hand (I'm a righty). The knuckles of that hand touched my arm. The wrist swelled to at least five times its diameter. Stupidly, I thought myself indestructible and without need for a physician. While I couldn't do certain things that really needed a good wrist, I think it was "usable" after about a month. I would find out a year later when I had to get x-rays on that arm after a bicycle collision that that wrist had been severely shattered and appeared pieced together with cement. Still, it's hard to believe that if I had gone to the doctor when I needed to that it would have taken 4-5 months. And the incredible advancement in surgical procedures since we were young is astonishing. Today, I had my 10th surgery in my life, 3rd on my knees. I used to think any surgery would result in scars of several inches. But everything is done arthroscopic so I have just 1 scar, from my right toe bunionectomy.
Judging just on my knee surgeries, 1st was done in 2011 to repair a torn meniscus. I remember being in pain and on crutches for 2 weeks or more. In 2014 my right knee needed the same surgery. Today, I had to have the right knee repaired again, but this time it was both inside and outside parts of the knee. Procedure started at 7 AM and took less then an hour, and I was home by 10. I'm already walking some without crutches and have had absolutely no pain. So all I can attribute that to is from 2011 to today more advancements have been made. Although full recovery is supposed to be 3 months, my hope is based on today that time frame could be shorter.
Hard to believe 5 to 6 months for Dach.

Serious question (I really don't know the answer) - can a team legally/contracturally prevent a player from going to an off season tournament? Granted, usually the IIHF U20 tourney is done during the season so I can see how a team would be within it's rights to demand the player be on the job and not off doing something else during the season - but this year the tourney started during the off season and I believe it ends before the Hawks and other playoff teams have to report to training camp ... so he wouldn't be missing any Hawks related activities (if he hadn't gotten injured). Kane and a bunch of other NHL players play in summer leagues - do they have to get permission from their teams? If yes - how far does this permission thing go? What if they wanted to go dirt-biking or rock climbing or other risky things during the off season? Did Crawford have to get permission to go the the concert where he got injured?

I'd have to look into it further to know exactly but yes I am pretty sure they can prevent them. I am basing this off the fact that the phrasing is always XX team loans XX player to (their country) or grants permission for player to participate in...

What if they wanted to go dirt-biking or rock climbing or other risky things during the off season? Did Crawford have to get permission to go the the concert where he got injured? They have to get permission for most things they do. Players have a lot of weird things in their contracts. Like they can’t go skydiving. Or drive in races etc. Dangerous things. However, I highly doubt many teams will stop their stars from playing in a summer league or from going to the world championships. With the season around the corner. It was insanity to let him go this year. He is a Blackhawks regular player. This could really hurt the franchise moving forward. Dach will miss this season, maybe not take that step forward that we’d like to see and the rebuild is just another year off. With all the players signing for next to nothing in the UFA market. Keeping Crawford and going after a few good UFAs could have given Dach, Dcat, Strome, Mitchell, Boqvist all a good look at the playoffs. Yet the direction is stupid, and so was the decision to let a regular play in this tourney. As a Canadian I was thrilled to have him, but as a realist, it wasn’t a necessity to let him go. In his 2nd year, his allegiance was to the team that pays him. Very very rarely does a 2nd year NHL regular get released to play in the WJC. I understand why Stan wanted to do it, but it was still the wrong move!!!

This could be the year that the Hawks could bottom right out. Top sniper Nylander is out. That’s gonna hurt the AHL. Now with Dach out. Is this still a “turn to the youth” year? Signing Soderberg is a great signing if you’re going for it. He’s got some game. Wouldn’t that take away from a kid getting a look? This year already looks terrible for the Hawks already!!! Why would Stan sign Soderberg when he still has Zach Smith still on the team? I'm not saying Smith is any better but doesn't he and Soderberg duplicate each other? Couldn't Smith play 3rd line C? This team isn't going to the Stanley Cup next year. Smith is on the last year of his deal. It makes you wonder where they'll play Smith this season. Plus, I thought two of the Swedes Stan signed were C's; all three are shown as either C or C/W. I may be missing something because I guess I'm not really seeing the need to sign Soderberg. Will Soderberg enable the Hawks to finish 8 pts. out of the playoffs instead of 10 or 11 pts. out?

Smith has been a center mostly part time throughout his career and played little if any here last year,he's a 3.25M fourth line tough who doesn't play that way any more. Kampf and Carpenter are both decent 4LC's IMO and Kampf could be more if he upped his offensive game. Wallmark's a center who wins over half his draws but Janmark's only part time @38fo% for his career.

He’s more of a top 6 skilled guy. Which would push Shaw down the lineup too. I’m not understanding the direction? Is it a rebuild or just hoping not to be the worst team in the league? Cuz to me I don’t see much of a rebuild. I see a team that needs a direction. And if there is one, I have to think it’s just don’t be as bad as the wings were, and hope to move up in the draft lotto. It really seems the Hawks ( ahem Stan) are looking to do what they did the other year when they drafted Dach. Just looking for some luck for a few years ago and not bottoming out. I’d have to think that the plan is now to “appear competitive” while rebuilding so the fans stick it out. It’s stupid cuz there won’t be much in the way of fans this year. So why not tank this year and get another top 3 pick plus a decent 2nd round pick. That would be the best case scenario for this year with all the injuries the Hawks have and probably will have. When they lose a solid 7-8 straight. I’ll bet the management takes a totally different approach!!!

4-5 months, not your average broken wrist That's just to return to hockey-related activities, such as talking smack about your opponent and screaming at the refs...who knows when he can actually start playing hockey!

Tanking and rebuilding appears to be the approach this team needs to take to have any hope of becoming relevant in the next decade. Rebuilding will include consideration of trading Toews and Kane, if Toews ever gets back to playing hockey. While trading those two will not be popular, it will be an important step in acquiring the assets needed to have a successful rebuild. It is just too bad that Bowman will likely be at the helm of the rebuild, if it goes that way. I have no faith in his ability to do it correctly. That is why I see the Hawks as having a future that will be more like Edmonton's, or the Islanders' after their last Cup.

Given the Swede signings, and Soderberg quickly after Dach went down - has JT been feeling iffy for awhile and SB shopped for cheap pivots in the off-season? Hate to think Toews kept his unknown illness a secret until the eve of camp. Either way, I think "appearing competitive" has just been overtaken by a likely "not competitive" scenario this season. Just like I remember in Hartford after Pully shipped me off for a draft pick in 1980.... "I coulda been somebody..!"

I think this has been known by the org for some time. Cuz the signings made zero sense. I’m not accusing or making any harmful statement about Toews or the org. But this really reeks of the Hossa retirement type stuff. I have to think Stan got stop gaps in here knowing he had massive holes. And I’d have to think he knew Toews was pissed got a while now and he let CC walk cuz the plan must now be to tank. All our speculation around here has been either the team wants to be bad enough to make it in the lotto. Now they’ll be a top 3 for sure. I wouldn’t doubt Kane gets some time off too. He just had a kid and the team will drag him down. Although I do think Kane is heavily eyeing the top American scorer of all time. So I could see him also playing little defense and looking to pad the stats. Without Toews, this team is really bad. Without Toews Dach Saad and CC, this team will be a 10 win team in 56 games!!!

If i see any links i will most definitely pass them on. Again ... I know I'm a screechy broken record with this - but man-o-man I would love for the Hawks to steal Cozens away from Buffalo. I wasn't sold on him before the 2019 draft in terms of being at the same level as Turcotte, Byram and Dach but I like him a whole lot more now. Having he and Dach as the #1-#2 centers of the future would be awesome sauce. i'm definitely now seeing what you're seeing in cozens. he does everything good.
