Good call, it's like Tallon picking Toews, both picked 3rd overall in Vancouver and they picked a big Western Canadian center known for his 2way game and Dach could be the next captain. Nice to see Dach will get a shot at gold at the World Juniors.

Somehow I don't see where they drafted the bulk of the core beforehand.

My point was that I don't see where they have drafted a new core group ahead of future 2 top picks. Secondary players were drafted by Pulford. Smith also said once that he never had real full control as GM, Pully would always interject.

Nice to see Dach will get a shot at gold at the World Juniors. Of course, I have no idea how Dach will do in upcoming years. But, he didn't even come close to the goals and assists Toews got in his first year, which was 24 and 35, or close to that. I am just not as impressed with Dach as the rest of you. Of course, whether I am, or not, is totally irrelevant. I wish him well and hope that he shows me I was wrong.

The best thing about Dach is the fact the he seemed to elevate his game. He took another step. This is what we need to see out of Boqvist this year. If he doesn’t have that extra step or that confidence. He won’t be an NHL regular at this point. Which kinda hinders the teams rebuild. If Mitchell steps and and rocks it, it probably makes Boqvist expendable. And I hope they don’t hold on to him for too long where he has zero value at some point. Trading kids while on their ELC plus being a top 10 pick is how you get full value.
But it’s good to see Dach take the next step. I think with his size he’s definitely a keeper!!!

The three above above posts all have merit IMO.....whatever that's worth any more. I see a big kid who skates very well and got stronger on his pegs as the year went along......much stronger. I see a solid hockey IQ and defensive instincts to go along with a good work ethic. I also saw the typical young center's over-willingness to look for the pass or set-up which can lead to a lack of willingness to shoot when appropriate.......we saw this to an extreme with Schmaltz. I think we'd all agree that if Kirby Dach reaches an elite level of play he'd need to pot 25 or so and he'll have to shoot more to reach it. His passing improved as his year went along with some dandy set-ups coming in the PO's. I have to admit to being confounded watching him skate right into Lehner on a break after skating right into MAF on another break the game before but teenagers have done much more confounding things than that. I also saw him unsuccessfully attempt to dangle through 2 or 3 defenders at times but to be fair,he has to try those moves if he's ever to perfect those moves. This brings us to my biggest concern and it surprises me it isn't mentioned in all the 'heir apparent' articles, jack mentioned the discrepancy between JT and Dach's rookie season as far as offensive production and we all have to remember(including those 'heir apparent' authors) what a lofty, high bar JT's rookie season was but Dach has a LOT of work ahead of him as far as faceoffs. We saw a young player make strides in every other aspect of his game with the exception of FO's,if this kid can just fight his way to the mid-40% level,I think we have a real NHL center on our hands.......if not maybe an outstanding power forward. I'm still not sure the team has the proper staff in place to develop high level youngsters like Dach and Boqvist but we'll see.

Leave it to you, Bob, to bring up the fact that a center should win faceoffs. GOOD POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As you said, Mr. Dach needs a lot of work on that aspect of his game. Or, again, as you suggested, maybe he should moved to a forward spot instead of center.

I had a feeling you'd have this vid posted 😁👍 That's a sweet dish and glad it was finished. When he was told he was staying in Chicago during last season's World Juniors, none of us thought he'd play this season, especially Kirby. Glad he gets to play for his country.

I wonder if his little brother made the team? Edit: nope...not on the list of 46 tryouts. And that move was greasy alright.

Dachs little brother projects as a 4th rounder or lower right now, unless he has a phenomenal year. The WJC team will be a tough one to crack, 46 players invited and only a half dozen undrafted, including possible ‘22 first overall Shane Wright. Will the Hawks suck bad enough by then to have a valid shot at the next phenom? I fully expect Dach to wear a letter in this tourney, hopefully the “C”.

That’s very creative. Many shun that type of thing. I welcome it at every turn. I think the game needs more creativeness. Thanks for sharing!!!

I would have loved for the Hawks to get O’Rourke but there was no way he was going to slip further down, just the best attitude to augment his skills. Good to see Kirby get up from a totally legal, and pretty hip check but you can get some weird injuries taking one off the hip like that.

I watched the first two games of the Canada intra-squad scrimmages (the third game will be played today). Man, that was good high paced hockey - a joy to watch. Lots of good players with Dach being among the top bunch including Cozens, Krebs and Byram.
Dach got 2 goals and 1 assist in the 2nd game. We've probably all seen that spin-o-rama assist by now but that assist wasn't a tape to tape pass - it was him throwing the puck on net and a teammate got the rebound and roofed a shot - rather what was amazing about that play was the spin-o-rama by a 6'5" guy with a giant stick. Very impressive and illustrates what a great skater and puck handler he is. The two goals were good shots from in close and in traffic - nothing overly spectacular but it's nice to see him shoot and score as that was an area of his game he needed to improve upon.
His overall play was excellent. He was engaged everywhere, stick handled in tight areas, used his body to shield and hold on to the puck, made good passes in tight spots, broke up passes and took the puck away in board work. And, he looks faster to me. I came away very encouraged and really looking forward to watching this guy blossom right before our eyes.
