the guy on the right is a "Superstar". : ) Good one. Still have that soundtrack buried somewhere deep in my album pile. track 1 "overture" is one of my favorite bits of music of all time.* * your results may vary.

It's amazing how little interest I have regarding the Hawks now. Even last season I would still be interested in what was going on with the players. Now I just don't. I guess I've truly become a former Hawks fan. I can't even see myself getting on the game day threads, unless they are playing the Florida Panthers, which they do in back to backs at the very beginning of the season (games 3 and 4 for the Panthers).
Again, I come on the site now more because I enjoy what everyone has to say. I have not read this thread as I typically would, because I have no interest how this team, with this coach, GM, and now president, does.

I don't know your history as a Hawks fan - were you a fan back in the "Dollar Bill" days? I ask because I've had some ebbs and flows of interest over the decades. My love for the Hawks and hockey in general never left but my fanaticism level fluctuated due to various things happening in my life at the time - one of which was how the Bill Wirtz ownership and management team were managing the team which, seemed to me, were less due to incompetence and more due to not paying top dollar to have a top team. Hopefully things turn around and your passion for the Hawks is rekindled.

My opinions have been made clear but what surprises me is the response I get from friends and family when I attempt to talk hockey with em. You'd think I have two heads when I ask em if they heard about this or that and when I mention SB's promotion, all I get is who gives a F. I won't call myself a former Hawk fan but livin' and dyin' with the current team sure isn't on my agenda any more.

Thinking more about Phil's post and his waning interest in the Hawks - I want to add a different perspective. I'll frame it from my personal experience which may or may not be somewhat shared by others.
I've had two teams I've "lived and died with" my entire life - the Hawks and the Bears. I'm a fair weather fan of the other Chicago teams - I was interested during the Jordan years when the Bulls were winning but don't pay much attention to them since then. Same with the Cubs and the Sox - when they have an exciting championship level team I jump on the bandwagon and pay attention, but most years I don't pay much attention. It's never been that way with the Hawks and Bears though - I'm invested no matter what type of team they have, through the good years and the bad years. I've watched every game that was televised with very few exceptions over the years. I've seen the Bears get demoralized more times than I can count but I'd be poring over the SunTimes sports section the next day and be back in front of the TV the following Sunday. There were years when the best I could hope for was to see Doug Plank demolish someone crazy enough to come over the middle or to see Walter have a 200 yard game. Frustration and anger and all that - but never quit.
Until the middle of the 2019 season when non-football stuff invaded the NFL and turned me off completely. I haven't watched a minute of NFL football since then - not 1 minute. And guess what? I'm surprised to find that I really don't miss it. In fact I'm kind of proud of myself for sticking to my guns - I wouldn't have put money on me having enough willpower to do it. I don't have an explanation for it but I'm happy to have my Sundays free and my wife is like "better late then never". I hope that doesn't happen with the Hawks because they're the last passionate interest I got ... but you know what - if it happens I'll be OK, just like I am now that I've divorced myself from the Bears and NFL.

Sucks to hear about Teply though. Many a career derailed by having attitude problems.

Can't say I give the woefully mismanaged Bears a chance Sunday but I love watching football and greatly appreciate the league's recognizing the MASSIVE problems of social injustice and racial inequality.

Sucks to hear about Teply though. Many a career derailed by having attitude problems. Teply's coaches in Winnipeg talked highly of him and I watched every one of his shifts at the World Juniors, he worked hard at both ends and generated chances but when you're a one line team you get shut down a lot. Teply was hitting and being more of a playmaker but still got off some good shots, I'm surprised not one went in because he's good at using defenders for screened shots. Just wasn't his tournament, so I'll wait and see how he does in Rockford/Chicago.

Hopefully things turn around and your passion for the Hawks is rekindled. I grew up a Hawks fan, watching my first game on my Grandmothers black and white TV in the 1960's. My Aunt had season tickets for over 2 decades and took me and other family members to several games a year. She also took me to the game vs the Russians (see my avatar and note in the corner that is the ticket stub to the game). I had season tickets for 1 season during the Orval Tessier days, the year the Hawks took Edmonton to 6 games in a wild series. I followed them thru many bad years, including the $ Bill years, only stopping for the 2 seasons Pat Foley wasn't announcing the games. I bought my season tickets in 2008/09 once they brought Foley back, not because of where the team was as I had no idea after not watching them early in the Toews/Kane careers. Hockey is by far my favorite sport, to the point when I was in my 20's I would not go out on a Saturday night until AFTER the Hawks game was over.
So I've stated my anger about Bowman going back to when he screwed over Tallon, and I won't go back into all of that. But until he is gone, I am. I'll continue to come on here, read what you guys have to say, jump in from time to time. I used to look forward to adding to the GDT. But when all I want is for the Hawks to fail not only during the season, but in drafts, until Bowman is fired, it's just impossible to add anything to threads like this. I used to be so excited to see the new faces during training camp. I remember seeing Panarin for the first time and couldn't believe his skills. I remember Savards career, the MPH line, my Aunt yelling at Esposito to get his eyes checked when he'd let in an easy goal. I remember the roar of the Chicago Stadium. But my heart is no longer with seeing the Hawks succeed in any way, shape, or form. If they were to go on in the Bowman era and become a dynasty I wouldn't care. That's how much my dislike of him is. I'm furious he was given the added responsibility of president while everyone around him got fired. He's the failure and he stays. I wish him nothing but the worst when it comes to the future of the Hawks. Maybe, when fans can attend games without restrictions again, if the Hawks attendance drops to the 3,000 to 5,000 range again, Bowman can convince Wirtz it was Pat Foley's fault again and fire him.

Just strange how the article mentioned his troubles with his national coach. Some kind of motivational ploy? I’m pulling hard for Teply this year, Hawks really need to find that diamond in the rough.

I watched some of the quick vids from practice today and watched the scrimmage - my takeaway on Teply is he seems to be moving much better than when I saw him in the WJC. He looked lumbering in the WJC and I thought there is no way that guy can play in the NHL. He looked more agile today so my "hope level" for him has risen a bit.

Teply sniped a nice goal and he looked about as good as anyone out there. There’s some good first impressions out there, Suter looks to be a player, and Wallmark looked good between him and Kubalik, better skater than he’s given credit for. Saw Altybarmakyan a lot, didn’t notice Chalupa at all, Kurashev somewhat. Rockford is going to be a polyglot team, hope Brookbank has a universal translator.

The NHL Channel is playing the WPG/CHI game from Jan-2020 where Kane got his 1,000th point. After watching the training camp scrimmage earlier today and now the game from last January - it's pretty remarkable how many players that played in the game from last January were not on the ice for the scrimmage - Toews, Dach, Nylander, Saad, Caggiula, Smith, Maatta, Koekkoek, Gustafsson, Lehner, and Crawford. WOW!

WOW! That's a big turnover but I like this team better than last years. Gus and Koekkoek were expendable, Kuk had a decent stretch of games with Maatta but he's not a top4 guy, Maatta can be and I was hoping de Haan could've been moved but at least both contracts aren't on this team. Mitchell looks confident and he's fun to watch, nice seeing that in the young guys. Beaudin and Carlsson also played that way and made smart plays with and without the puck. Regula is hard not to notice, big smooth skating dman with good hands. He out scored Boqvist when Adam played in London, 27 to 20. Boqvist did have 40 assists though. Yes losing Dach for 4-5mnths is huge, as well as the captain for an undisclosed amount of time, but this forward group looks to have more depth than last season. The 3 Swedes that were added bring experience and depth, plus 2 play center and all 3 play solid 2way games. Suter and Kubalik could be special this year, Kubs looks faster and Pius compliments his game. Soderberg or Walmark can center them and do what they do around the net and defensively, plus both guys had 17 goals last season so they know their way around the net. The bottom 6 looks solid with decent size and work ethic, Highmore-Kampf-Carpenter is a good 4th line and they make just under 3mill combined. Plus big Zadorov will bring some much needed intimidation and calmness on the blueline and with Murphy playing with Keith the D pairings are more balanced than last season. Plus Mitchell and de Haan looked solid together. The big question mark's in net, I have a feeling Lankinen might get the #1 spot but Delia has grown a lot since his brief stint with the Hawks. Subban is a wild card and it'll be a good battle to see who gets the starting position.

I read the article about Shaw and his return, very uplifting and I'm happy for him. I know this year is a bust, but I think having him in the room will help keep things light and might help the new youths (yewts) feel loose and comfortable. I'm just looking for bright spots I guess.

That was a good read about Shaw, he looked refreshed at scrimmage and scored two nice goals. He was playing RW on the first PP unit with Kane and Boqvist on D.

Bob there's no way the Hawks are better without Toews, Dach, and Crow, I wasn't saying that, I was saying I like the depth better up front and on D.
I mentioned the goalies are the big question mark, we both like Lankinen and he said he's been dreaming of being the starter in Chicago, I think he can.
Of course Crow is a Hawks legend and it's big skates to fill but with better D and forwards who back check, it'll make for an interesting year. So I'm not going to guess how many wins they'll have with so many what ifs, but I can see some potential.

Your optimism is duly noted but you said "I like this team better than last year's" and I was just wonderin' why. Is the depth you mention up front top six or bottom six? I know size is a bad word here but I've sworn before.........the league average player is 205lbs and there's not a single forward who'll make the team that'll hit that average weight. Many who'll make the roster will be spottin' 25lbs or more to their opponent every game.......get the quiet room ready again this year.
