Has Kalynuk been looking good in camp? I ask this because I would have thought he would be better off getting regular minutes in Rockford and learning the pro game since he's just come out of Wisconsin. On the taxi squad he'll be relegated to practicing with the team and no certainty if/when he would get to play in actual games.

yeah, he was flying alright. i'm no technician same as you. i've never ever played an organized game and i skate on my ankles. having said that, i think his pivot was pretty much perfect. pretty sure mitchell's stick made contact with kurashev's just as he shot which took some heat off of his shot and the goalie made a fairly routine save as a result. It looked that way to me too. Mitchell got his stick in front of Kurashev and it prevented PK from getting any kind of follow through on his shot, and as you say it took some heat off of it. I'm assuming Mitchell switched his college number around when he joined the Hawks.

d-cat's approaching his best ever shooting % which was 18.6% in 2018/19. i have to admit i never thought he'd get near to that number again, nor did i hold out much hope for the bounce back season he's having. i hadn't given up on him but he had me wondering. he's as big a key to this team's success this year than anything.
edit: the cat's ice time/game this year is a career high 20:15. his highest before this was 17:42 in 18/19. he's earned it.

I expected a bonce back as far as offensive production cause he's just that good offensively but I didn't expect the massive improvement in all around play we've seen this year. He's backchecking and breaking up plays better than I ever recall and he's been good keeping pucks alive and his passing has improved as well. We can't forget the kid turned 23 just two months ago. Durable too,the only starts he's missed so far in his career were the four he missed to Covid protocol this year.

Where will the team stand at the end of the month? The team has a pretty good grip on 4th right now with Dallas as the only competition for the spot from what I see and only if they can get out of their own way and a few guys back. They'll have to make hay in the five games that are against teams not from Florida, gotta beat the Preds twice and the Stars too since they're our real competition for a spot. Catch what catch can against the Bolts and the Cats......10-12 out of the 28 points available in March will keep the team in a spot IMO. Lotta bottom feeders to take advantage of in April!

Startin' to think we'll see pictures of Brent Seabrook and Zach Smith on milk cartons before we hear anything about em from the Org. Both are still listed on IR with their debilitating 'Back tweaks' and will probably stay there since the team isn't asking for LTIR cap relief for either.

We're at the half mile pole with 5 of the 10-12 points I thought would keep the team in 4th,five more to come against the top three and two with the Preds.......gonna need those two! A four point cushion for a spot and all four teams behind us are sub .500 over their last ten games right now, some points against those top theree teams would go a LONG way!

Well we ended up with 11 points for the month and a tie for a spot so I guess I was right but I was wrong-o about Dallas........NSH and CBJ are the opposition for that spot now. Gotta make hay the next ten games.....they'll decide where we end up for the season. The half dozen games in May will be challenging to say the least. What does everyone see the team doing at the TDL?

Love to be a fly on the wall during those phone calls. We will see end results but never the process leading to a trade.

I've been wondering what they will do for a couple weeks and still get get a good feel for it. I seem to change my thoughts after every game. Between covid, contracts, expansion it's too many variables for my pea-brain.

What does everyone see the team doing at the TDL? I don't think you were wrong about Dallas, Bob. I'd say they and Nashville are the competition for the last spot. if they were to win the 4 games they have in hand right now, they would be 4 points ahead of both the 'hawks and perds... as far as the deadline goes, I gotta think they look to sell an expendable piece or two and say they are making room for the young guys. if they can get a good return for any of the vets on one year deals, they have to take it, imo. shedding a guy like DeHaan can just be framed as making a spot for a younger player they have a lot of confidence in (and not that they are giving up on the playoffs).

Don't look now but Brandon Hagel has more points in fewer games than Philipp Kurashev with a much better +/- and he trails Suter by only four points despite seeing a much lesser role.....maybe time for a larger role!

I fully agree. Right now I’m not sold on the other two, Suter is 24 and he really should be able to step in. He plays with KANE FFS. Shouldn’t be hard to get points with him. Hagel has gotten better and better. I hope the coaching staff recognizes this. Hagel kinda reminds me of Sharp in his infancy as a Hawk. He’s just working hard to move up, passing every test along the way. So, let’s hope he develops more and more!!!

Funny is they go younger so they can be worse so they can get better. Younger plays better than they should, and bring team to mediocre. It's good that the youngers have taken such huge strides forward. But that should have been done in the minors 2 years before coming here. I'm just going to look at this season as a throw away year.

I think it’s safe to say, Stan got rid of a 68 overall player, for a younger 68 overall player. Just hoping that the player will be better with time and experience. Again, we have the same exact caliber team, but the draft position is horrible. Once again I’ll say this. Stan Bowman is hellbent on proving he’s the smartest hockey guy ever. There’s only one way to rebuild. His way is exactly what Brian Burke did in Toronta and it failed miserably. Burke went after college free agents every summer hoping to “find a wallet full of money”. Then he’d look for free agents and truculent players (although Stan looks for Euro free agents instead of truculent players). The Hawks need another 4-5 years to bottom out and get top players. There is no other way to rebuild. I repeat, there is no other way to rebuild. I hope Stan learns this soon!!!
