Any insights after this final scrimmage? Kampf, Carpenter and Highmore look to be our shutdown line, dominant every shift. Carlsson should be in the mix somewhere on defense, but I think there’s a couple of shiny new toys that have caught the coaches eye instead. But other than that I’m pumped...for Rockford. Some of these new signings can play a bit, but they’ll need some time in the minors first. Kurashev showed his upside, Teply had another nice game and Quenneville did as well, but he’s tempted before so I think I’ll pass on him this time. Hagel has an energy game and should be on the taxi squad. Altybarmakyan has a nice motor and Chalupa skates better than his YouTube video shows. Are they willing to go to the Rock? I’m not sure if they’re on two ways or their out is Europe. There are no Panarin’s in the mix but there are some players who could be very complementary to the current squad. On the defensive side Beaudin disappointed, an oddly dysfunctional game, Krys started out well, good skater, but withered towards the end. Kalnyk and Regula look OK but need time. DeHaan looked the best of the vets this game, paired well with Mitchell. Lindholm looked decent as well I thought. But we’re definitely lacking top end talent as of this moment with Toews and Dach out. Goaltending is ...who knows?

This is one those "damning with faint praise" things - but I thought the best thing going in the scrimmage was the 4th line. Carpenter-Kampf-Highmore might just be a thing. So, lock it in - I guess we got the 4th line squared away.
The 3 guys I wanted to keep my eye on the most - Mitchell, Boqvist and Suter - all acquitted themselves pretty well. Boqvist used his stick well in defending, carrying the puck and making a few nice passes. Mitchell is just smooth and seems to handle it all real steady. He jumped into the play a few times and I think he got an assist or two. Suter seems like a smart player who knows how the get to the net and make plays. Very happy with all of them in the scrimmage.
Kurashev may not be ready defensively to play in the NHL but he has some good offensive instincts and skills. Love to see him get a few games to see how he handles the major step up in competition.

I didn´t watch the scrimmage, but for a team in rebuild i would want the youngsters to get a chance to play and show what they can do.

When you look at Scott Powers listing of Strome, Wallmark, Suter and Kampf, would Soderberg move in as the #2C?
If he does, I wonder if Wallmark would move to the #3C spot, with Suter moving to LW. I ask this because I looked up Wallmark's FO%, and these are his NHL FO%'s for his four NHL seasons.
2016-17 - 53.4 2017-18 - 55.1 2018-19 - 50.9 2019-20 - 50.3 total (60 gms. CAR - 50.1; 7 gms. FLA - 52.9)
From what I could read, Wallmark is strictly a C and Suter is C/LW though I read he played mostly LW this past year, although he played more C before that. Apparently he's equally good at both spots. However, I can understand the coaches want the best players out there so that could mean Suter at C as things progress. I couldn't find any FO%'s for Suter since he's been in Europe the whole time.

I've always looked at it in that most teams the last 15 years or so they are moving towards players that are C/LW/RW and away from just centers. With so many times linesman like to toss out guys and then a winger has to come in and 99% loses the FO. So now you can have a back-up center who can fill in.

Ouch to that info GT. I got ready for the season today by putting up the Hawks flag outside and I bought a bag of BBQ pork rinds for the game. I thought the bag said "spicy" but found it they're just plain BBQ. Anyways, expectations are low, but I will still be routing for the team, yewts and for Kane to pad his career stats. I'm also hoing to see some Dmen develop and a goalie to step up for the future (hopefully Lankinen).

Seems like you and everyone else is forgetting Seabs.......does he open the year on LTIR? Besides Scambo saying his absence "has nothing to do with his surgeries",the silence has been deafening. They have to make some kind of statement you'd think. Zach Smith couldn't earn a roster spot over Brandon F'n Pirri.................YIKES! I knew Lankinen would be the odd man out before camp started but now he won't even see AHL starts.

As for Pirri, I’m guessing he makes the lineup but it could just as easily be Hagel or Kurashev filling the spot. Same with Lankinen. The other two have NHL starts so I’m figuring they go with those guys. We’ll soon see.

Haven't heard much about the goaltenders from articles or banter from those who still bother to watch practices and the scrimmage. Has Suban earned his spot with solid play so far? Has Lankinen not earned a spot?

IMO There's a reason Lehner couldn't get more than 5M and Lankinen would still be third string behind Delia. Lehner is highly talented and played well in the PO's.......if he could just keep his pie-hole closed.

I've been a Lehner fan for a while but getting Demin, a 2nd (possible future starter), and Subban, might be a great deal. As for Lankinen, he'll get his shot and run with it. Subban has size and athleticism but I don't think he has the mental fortitude to be a starter, Delia and Lankinen do.

His openness about his mental health was one thing and very acceptable but other comments like not taking a discount on his next deal when asked by a reporter here.......he re-signed for the same 5M. Lehner put up 1.67/.940 in the PO's so I guess I didn't realize we won that trade so lopsidedly........it's quite the haul you say?

I said it might be a good deal, I didn't say the Hawks won it and definitely never said lopsidedly lol Commesso has a lot of potential, so does the 6'2" smooth skating Demin. And if Subban can actually be a starter that trade looks decent but only time will tell. And when asked if Lehner would take a hometown discount he said no, taking 4mill or less would be a discount, so 5mill is about right. I'd rather have Lehner then that trade but like I said, time will tell.

I would also mention that he received 5 mils after season stoppage due to Covid and teams were reluctant to pay big money, so he would probably get more pre Covid
