Chicago born Chris Chelios was a heart-and-soul competitor, a multi-Norris trophy winner, the captain of an underdog Blackhawk team which he dragged on his back to the Stanley Cup finals in 1992. Sure, he said and did some things over the years which offended Hawk fans. He seemed to embrace joining Detroit perhaps a little too much. But he did not choose to become a Red Wing. He was traded there. Now he is booed - mercilessly at times - at the United Centre. Knowing the intense rivalry, Kane willingly signed with Detroit as a UFA. There likely were other options. Could Kane's legacy here be smeared by this choice? Loyalty is a funny thing. So, what did he say and do which offended Hawk fans? Are these the things that make Hawk fans hate the Wings so much such that they know hate Kane for joinilng them; or are there other things that are the bases for Wing hatred? It must be nasty shit that fuels the Hawk fan Wing hatred such that Kane's legacy in Chicago could be smeared by joining the Wings. Did Detroit have a contract out for Bobby Hull or Mikita before they died? |

Jack as far as the hatred of Hawks fans on Detroit I believe ,and Phil could probs remember better then me , the fans base like them or not wings fans traveled big time and there are a lot of Michigan poeple who when the grew up came to chicago to work because the dream was not to do good in school and go work in Detriot. So you had a lot of wings fans at games after they would all yell and do there Lets go Deadwings and stupid clap we would respond Detriot sucks as they clapped like grade school cheerleaders. I dont believe the hate for Kane is that big. For me most of my Deadwing hate went away when #7 scored and ripped there hearts out in 2013. So Wing fans would come to games in Chicago and cheer for the Wings and so Hawks fans now hate the Wings so much that want to destroy Kane for joining them? Yeah, I get it now. Not!!!!!! I can't believe Hawk fans would be so trivial and pitiful. |

Vadarx, and I talked about this before, being from the east coast, I grew up hatting the Habs , Maple Buds, and Bruins, they were the ones on TV that always beat my Hawks, never seen the other American teams so much, I do remember beating the red wings in 61, but loosing to the leafs the next year, then the Habs for 2 0r 3 , then Pitt in 92, so for me those teams are worth the big F ken hate on

"the hockey guy" on YT said that if kane plays every game the rest of this season he will set a record for most games ever following the type of surgery he had.
i can't verify true or false but that's what he said and he seems like he'd be a trusted source. actually watching it again he said he read it in the athletic.
i was more than a bit surprised to hear that. Edit: duh...i shouldn't be, i posted the numbers on the previous page.
another edit: looking at his stat line, he's not exactly tearing it up in motown...yet.
6 games, 1g and 1a and a -7. interestingly, him and larkin lead all forwards in toi/game each with 19:24...so it would appear kane is skating without any difficulty. on his career kane has averaged 20:15 a game.
you'd have to think his 5% shooting percentage will improve.

Kaner returns to his old self. And what a pleasure to see. Still looks a bit odd not wearing a hawks sweater. Odder still that he's in deadwings livery. Anyway, I'll be watching their games whenever they're on and don't conflict with the Hawks.

I saw quit a bit of Backstrom last year when he returned from his hip procedure and I'll say this,he never looked to be the same player,even after a chance to shake-off the rust. He looked even worse this year after a long PO-free summer to rest and further recuperate.
I've hesitated to work my 'kiss of death',jynx magic by mentioning Kane's 3rd star of the week play so far because we don't know how much durability can be expected from a resurfaced hip,but I'll say this too.......Patrick Kane hasn't moved round the ice the way he has the last 12 games in years!

Kane had 1250 points in 1192 games. At 124 points behind, I feel Kane can get 50 more points in the last 45 games this year. He should be at 1300 ish by years end. If he’s still good to go. He really could and should break it by the end of next year. Now, I don’t wanna curse the guy. But even the might OV has fallen really really far from grace. He’s on a Huberdeau type cliff. So hopefully Kane can stay healthy and grab that record. He’s got 13 points n 12 games so far this year. Wings have exactly 46 games left. I don’t think it’s out of the question for Kaner to get 50 more points this year. If not more. So 75 points over the rest of his career seems totally doable!!! |

What he did to the Hawks is FAR worse then anything Chelios did. Yet a bunch on here hate Chelios.
Chelios: traded against his desire going to Detroit
Kane: traded and FORCING the Hawks to trade him to New York leading to a crap return for the Hawks
Kane: 31 other teams he could have gone to and he CHOSE to sign with Detroit

He made it public he wouldn't play for anyone but the Rangers. So forced the Hawks to take less then if there was any chance of a bidding war for him. Back in Chelios day, he didn't demand a trade to the Wings, the Hawks made that decision for him. So why not hate the Hawks instead of Chelios?
Sorry, but yes, totally different scenario.......Kane screwed the Hawks, Chelios did not

Chelios didn't have any say as to the roster, it's not his fault dollar Bill didn't want to pay any of his star players. So no, NOT MYSTERY solved. If you guys think Chelios is a POS, so you should with Kane. Otherwise they both should be celebrated for what they brought to the team. Chelios was the team captain, Kane couldn't get an A on his jersey until late in his Chicago career, mostly because for many of those years he didn't play much defense. Did he have a great career in Chicago? Yes. Did Chelios? Again, Yes!
As for parading the Cup around Chicago......Chelios was born and raised in Chicago. What does every other player who ever lifted the Cup do? Figure out a remote island where nobody knows what hockey is and parade the Cup? He brought it HOME like every other NHL player who's name is on the cup did.
