the contract does not include any type of no-trade protection. A good contract for Kassian. Never thought he’d get the fourth year and the three million was the number they were throwing around here. Not having any movement clauses is huge for the team. If the Oilers thought he could consistently do what he’s done this year he’d have gotten five or six.

Hammer is back with the Yotes. it's actually his 5th game back. and in edmonton tonite... actually nugent-hopkins (3rd career fight) vs monahan (1st career fight) was a better tilt just prior. good game though. edit: was hoping for a few more fireworks but all in all it was a pretty good game. the first period was especially intense and the whole game had it's share of chippiness from both sides. they meet again in 3 more days so most likely i'll watch the last couple of hours of that game after our game in arizona is done. edit #2:

tkachuk's a punk but i'd love him on our team. seems like PK realized he'd made a mistake even before his gloves hit the ice. Big brother has a chance to finish what he started in Edmonton Wed night.....does he turtle again? Major kudos to the rugged, outstanding, young player! Matthew Tkackuk displayed respect for himself, his team, his family and the game itself when he took responsibility and answered the bell. He and his younger brother are both throwbacks to different age......a purer age.

He looks still good at his age, not declining so fast like some other guys we know, so it's not completly unreal.Depends also on his team quality and support, they play on him all time. But I would say no, he won't catch #99.

It's being discussed recently quite a lot on several podcasts as well. What he needs, is 5 seasons averaging 40 goals a season. When Pronger was asked about his opinion, he mentioned that a player as he gets older, he looses legs, but not the shot. I say he makes it. Even if he needs more time, Washington lets him make it. They would have the all-time best shooter in NHL history. Who would not be intrigued by that. That of course requires Ovi being healthy...

Without a bad injury, I can definitely see him sticking around at all costs to get that record. It would be a PR nightmare for Wash. if they didn't let him stay to do it, even if production drops way off.

I think in fact he already is the best sniper (not scorer) in the history (considering different eras) but he depends much more on support than ie Kane who can play with anyone and do everything himself. So it's not only about him and his health. Also you still need good legs to get into right position in time.Another problem with 5x40 goals theory could be that regression is not linear, after ie 32-33 it goes down faster every next year.
(Wins Above Replacement (WAR) is an attempt to summarize a player's total contributions to their team in one statistic.)
well, I know it's not only scoring graph and it's different for different players but still, I dont believe he can keep same pace another 5 years.

IMHO Ovi is not a type of a player that you could apply generalization on him. Regarding your point that he needs support, Backstrom was just resigned for 5 more years. The rest is not going elsewhere as well (apart from Holtby) who is already effectively replaced by Samsonov. Better question is how much will Ovi require in his next contract and if he'll fit in the Caps salary cap... But that's the question which Washingtion will have to deal with next summer.

I would say the Sharks are out of the playoffs competition and will be the sellers before the TDL. With Couture's fractured ankle and now Hertl out for the season with torn ACL, it's over for them.

Baring injury Ovi's dam near a lock! This guy's a frickin' HORSE,his combination of size, strength, speed, skill AND physicality is truly rare. I'm still not sure the Great eight wasn't created in a test tube deep in the Kremlin because a more perfect offensive weapon isn't possible otherwise!LOL! Just look at games played EVERY year and you'll see 72 as the fewest with the exception of the lockout year where he played em all as he's done most years. Considering the minutes and physical style he plays......this is as amazing as his goal total and the reason he could end up with the goal record.

he might trade Saad for Hertl or get Ryan Murray and Anderson for Strome, Murphy and Caggiula

Hertl is out for the season with torn ACL and MCL.

Hertl is out for the season with torn ACL and MCL. yup, I know. its staying in the trend of SB trading for recovering-from-injury players. Like Maatta, DeHaan. Murray and Anderson are also "recovered" from long term injuries.

Neither on their players. I mentioned it in with sense that most probably one less competitor for a wild card spot.

Speculate... he's not exactly slowing down. scored his 36th tonight, and unless he scores again tonight, he's on pace for 57 goals for the season which would be his second best number over a season. he's also scoring at a pace recently like he's never done before. edit: of course ovie scored another one late to cock up my math so now he's on pace for nearly 59 goals. also passed messier tonight for sole possession of 8th all time.
