Defenseman Henri Jokiharju pinched, took a quick pass from Reinhart, and lifted the puck top corner glove side on Bobrovsky to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead at 12:49 of the first period. "He just has been somebody who is looking for those opportunities to join the rush, but he does it in a really smart way," Sabres coach Ralph Krueger said. "He pretty well never gets caught in behind or lost in the play and he's able to keep his momentum going when he does attack. So it was good to see him get some fruits for that hard labor he's bringing us without the puck."

First one is just crazy. Hawks play the Preds on Thursday. They will be a motivated team.

Poile hasn't done that team any favors lately himself, acquiring an ineffective, often injured Turris who's never been any good in big games and now has 5 left @the 6M they gave him didn't help and neither did moving Suban for nothing. The Preds have a better goal differential than any team that's not in a spot and better than a few who are.

never been a fan of kadri's to be honest but a lot to like about this.
someone mentioned on the old boards (vadar? tincup?) how good he would've fit in here as center #3. can't argue that.

I've got a dollar that says Laviolette is coaching in Detroit next season. who wants in? I want Deboer here. Or that coach from Pittsburgh (Mike Sullivan), that team is decimated by injuries and everyone in the roster are giving their all every game.

Tampa won their ninth straight and most were in dominant fashion, they seem to be rounding into their typical regular season form.

kassian got a dbl. minor and a misconduct whereas tkachuk got nothing but a whipping. tkachuk's okay though....most of the punches got him on the shell.
post game comments.
edit: watching the game, tkachuk just nailed kassian hard again late in the third. cocky s.o.a b. that one. next game between them might be one to circle on the old calender. (january 29th and we don't play that night)

Tkachuk did the same damn thing to Dach. I’m glad that Kassian punched him out. I hope he lays a hit like never seen before on him. But gotta give Tkachuk credit, he did his job and got them off their game. I would like to see Tkachuk kept honest though. Zack will crush him, he’s one tough S.O.A.B!!!

I thought those hits were intent to injure/predatory etc. That hit on Dach was super late and the same type thing. The league says nothing about hits like that, and those hits are what cause concussions. Fights rarely end in concussions, also they keep the league honest. Letting that guy run around to do that stuff is awful, I guess if he’s on your team you like it, but I don’t think Bolland was ever that dirty. He was an a**h**e out there for sure, but not purposely trying to end careers!!!

Rulings like this will change the game fundamentally,a player can no longer stick up for himself after two questionable hits? Scott Stevens pointed out the extent that Tkachuk left his assignment to go that low to put a big hit on an unsuspecting forward coming around the net both times. He believed Tkachuk might have been tossed if he put that 1st one on Crosby or McDavid. Part of me likes the brash young guy pokin' the bear but mess with the bull and you get the horns at some point and that's how it's supposed to be. Tkachuk targeted the opponents toughest player with two bell ringers and the targeted player gets discipline for taking exception when the resulting double minor and misconduct allowed the winning PP goal? The league now officially supports the high hard ones because Tkachuk targeted Kassian with two that took his helmet off without a call but suspended Kassian for taking exception! WTF kinda sissified shit is the league turning into?

WTF kinda sissified shit is the league turning into? Bob you know I like my skilled hockey, I argue with people I coach with over that too. But I don’t mind what Tkachuk did and I sure as hell don’t mind what Kassian did. At the pro level it’s a different beast. It’s a tough sport, and what Kassian did wasn’t really hockey, but it was a necessary evil that needed to happen. I’m actually glad that Kassian said he’d do it again. Cuz you and I both know damn well Tkachuk will do it again. I truly think Tkachuk is a headhunter and plays very very wreckless. If someone hit him like that, you can bet that he’d be the first to say they were dirty. My good friends cousin is on the Flames. I ask him how it is to deal with a guy like that, and he just says you love him on your team, but you’d seriously think of jail time if he was on the other team. It’s gotta be hard to stick up for a teammate like that, and we just seen that even the linesman didn’t even offer much help to Tkachuk. But let’s hope that the league starts coming down on the “aggressive perfector”. If he hit Toews or Kane or Dcat like that, I’d expect a huge response, but Stans guys are more of passengers these days!!!

Great post Bob!
Thanks Tater. All any of us do is state our opinions. Bill Lindsay and Scott Stevens must have talked about this situation for 10 minutes yesterday and both agreed that if the league will now suspend players for what Kassian did then Kassian should target a player like Gaudreau instead of immediately retailating and see if Tkachuk comes at him. I'd personally like to see the Tkachucks and Kassians keep the rough stuff between them and away from the elite players but that's what we'll see when fighting becomes unaccepted.

As accustomed as I am to watching the Hawks get plastered,I was still disappointed to see Dach's linemates skate away after Tkachuk's late hit on the 18yro. As much as I like and complement Dach,I was a bit disappointed in him there too...….18 or not. I didn't have a chance to see much of Dach's junior play but I'd bet he woulda took exception to something like that in the WHL or at least I hope he did. With Shaw's injury,Gilbert's benching and Smith's lack of interest in the physical game he used to play,we're once again soft as ever. Possibly by design!
