Dowell(remember the double LL's from years back)disputes some of what Boynton says in the article but to be fair,I think just about everybody knew 'SOMETHING' but then what? JT and Q(two men who I obviously support)both have said they don't remember hearing of this back then and here in lies that 'SOMETHING' I mentioned.......same goes for the rest of the players and staff. Did they hear innuendo or rumors? If one of the victims went to their HC or captain and were rebuffed with both now saying they didn't know....that's a bad deal but it sounds like the victim(s) went to an assoc coach as reported and then to the highest ranking execs in the Org. If things transpired the way Vincent is willing to testify they transpired, can palyers or coaches act against mgnt wishes and go to the authorities themselves? Can they go to the press in the middle of a cup run? That's why I say 'then what?'

No offense to Boynton. But he knew too. He never said shit about anything either. Now he wants to play the F****** hero? That’s low, that’s really low. And if management would’ve done something, the onus would not be on the gawd damn players. That’s what sickens me even more about Boyntons comments. He’s ok throwing all the players under the bus and dragging them for miles, but the management put all of them in that position by not dealing with it. Boynton is an absolute bitch and I hope he sits terribly wrong on his Hawks Stanley Cup ring which requires emergency removal of it. That’s awful to do that. Especially when he was a vet on the team and brought in for those exact reasons. Now he’s throwing the guys that were kids under the bus. What has this world become? Seriously? I’m all for Boynton saying it was wrong and something should’ve been done. But to basically point blame at kids and saying they should’ve done something is stupid at best. I hope Scambo does the right thing as a man in his late 40s and protects the legacy of these players. This is getting shittier by the second!!! I´m not reading it like you. I´m reading Boyntons statements as the players who now are saying they didn´t know anything are lying. Know. Not that they should have acted in 2010. Thats on management. Many players have gone on protocol saying they knew nothing back in 2010. I feel that those statements now can blow up in their face.

This is why I feel that pointing the finger at the younger players on that team (at the time) is disgusting at best. They didn’t want to be insubordinate or a “loose cannon” etc. Hockey has a shitty culture of falling in line at all costs. This is probably a great example of this. Bob, a while back here you brought up a great point about the victims not wanting to be sought out. When every gawd damn player from that team keeps speaking out on this, we know it’s not them. And the list narrows. It’s better that every shuts up and let’s it play out. And to further it, they point the finger at other players and it narrows the list even more because an accused person isn’t going to be the victim. At the end of the day, if Scambo did the right things, this wouldn’t be messy at all. If falls on his plate and McCub. Since Scambo got his boss fired and took over his job, I’m sure he’s always had some decent say. And I’m sure he could of course easily could a brought this to Rockwell’s attention. I’m sure Rockwell would do the right thing as his business would suffer if he didn’t. This falls on Scambo!!!

So the list narrows and the person(s) will be identified sooner than later. No need for any of this right now!!!

I think Boyton should have stuck to relaying what he knew, as opposed to claiming that everyone -- or the players that he mentioned -- knew. Put it another way, Boyton cannot know with absolute certainty what someone else knew. It's certainly not his place to accuse anyone of lying, unless he can cite a specific conversation where concrete facts were discussed. What we do know is that the allegations had been relayed to the management by the way of coach Vincent. I'd like to hear a full story about what the management did at that point. Did they discuss this with John Doe and encourage him to file a police report? I sort of do agree that they couldn't have filed a police report on his behalf. However, I sure hope that they didn't discourage or "dis-incentivize" John Doe from filing a police report. That would have been despicable.

quick question about this (might be a dumb legal question), for anyone who might know, would the investigators tell the person they're interviewing/questioning who John Doe is?
is the question "are you aware of any sexual harassment going on?" or is the question "are you aware of the sexual harassment towards (John Doe's real name)?" ?

I think to get an accurate answer, the person(s) name would be used. But also the people being interviewed would be sworn to secrecy afterwards or a non-disclosure-agreement to protect the victims. This is why we’ve heard many say they’ll cooperate with the interview team. Even though it’s not a criminal case at this point and just a private investigation. If you’re not going to cooperate with the investigators, they won’t interview you. So part of the cooperation is to keep John Doe’s name secret!!!

Sopel and Boynton, along with Dowell have already ruled themselves out, along with Toews, Kane, Sharpie and Campbell. I know theyre trying to help and I agree with them, but other players/people need to allow the investigation to continue and stop leaking stuff out. If only to protect John Doe's real identity

I agree with you as far as naming players which pretty much excludes them from being the 'John Doe' and that's not right IMO. If players did know,it had to be rumor and innuendo unless the victim told everybody and they usually don't do that and if the players and coaches knew, they probably also knew that Vincent already had taken it upstairs. What were these players and coaches who were about to win the team it's fort cup in 49 years supposed to do? What did Boynton do except point fingers 11 years later?

If Boynton pointed fingers back then, or even shortly after, I’d have respect for him. But calling out the players and coaches that really had no power to do much is stupid at best. Boynton has no clue what has been said to the team recently. Maybe this is why ol Scambo shifted gears and didn’t want a lot of the same guys here from last year cuz he didn’t want them involved or talking to the players that were here during it. More than likely the Hawks players still around have been “coached” by management on what to say because there’s a legal matter at stake. So, I feel it’s best for former players shut up for now and comment later when it comes to light. The victim will be centered out sooner than later because of the ever shrinking number of guys it can be. As per our conversation a few pages back, I fully agree it’s best to not even think about who it is right now and I won’t even speculate anymore out of respect for these victims. But it gets tough not to speculate when there’s only 2-3 guys left it could be, so I think it’s best to look at facts and if management here is guilty, then they should fall on their own Skofnung!!!

Danny Wirtz confirms that the investigation will be made public.
I think this is a step in the right direction. I still don’t see how they can put much blame on anyone underneath the management.
Scambo’s reply is simply…… Danny Wirtz has made it very clear what he intends to do with the findings. He also said that he supports the Hawks any way he can. Sounds Guilty to me!!!

oh....i'd say it's gaining traction. it's gaining traction by the hour i'd say. yeah, the media is definitely starting to pick it up. I saw articles on ESPN and the Washington post last night.. Ha! I missed it in the WaPo. I have a digital subscription, and keep checking for an article to show up in the national media. Once it does -- and it looks like it did -- it's going to blow up. I can't imagine that anyone in the front office should have a job after all has been revealed.

As Bob pointed out. They can’t go against managements wishes. The only logical reason I could think of would be if Boynton actually talked to them about it. Then again, this whole thing stinks. Further, even though Boynton was older (as if Campbell and Sharp weren't), if the allegations against Gary are indeed true that the team psychologist told the victim that what allegedly happened was his fault, then it makes me wonder if that wall of silence might have been encouraged by the management up and down the lineup irrespective of age. Again, the whole "position of power" dynamic. The coaches, support crew, and upper management could torpedo just about anyone's career and I can't get any legal mandate in Illinois if employers are required to ensure a workplace never turns hostile. Further, with this whole cancel culture thing going on, you also have to wonder if a player like Toews or Kane might be looking down the barrel of that and panicking. In their 30's now in retrospect they might (speculation here) be thinking maybe the should have done something, but because they didn't people will still hold them accountable even though they were kids and again, affected by the person of power dynamic where Q, Stan, Aldrich, Gary, McDonough, et. al could have ruined their lives and careers with no fallback. Like I said, this whole thing stinks. I'm fairly certain that something will be settled outside of court and the Blackhawks will make token gestures towards sexual abuse and assault awareness to give the illusion that they are doing something (like most organizations do when cough with their pants down), but I'm holding out hope that people involved who are actually culpable takes a serious fall for this.

What is the something Toews and Kane could have done after the issue was addressed at the highest levels of management? These kids, the rest of the players and the staff were in the process of winning the WCF at the time and maybe being focused on that and that only was required and maybe they expected the highest levels of management to do the right thing. Apparently management figured just firing Aldrich would put the problem to bed with the cover of winning the team's first cup in 49 years but it's reared it's ugly head in court. I still want to know who signed the referral letter myself and who brought the predator in,seems there were problems in his past before his actions here.

Aside from anonymously leaking things to the press (and managing to stay anonymous), not much. I don't personally find any of the players or staff below the coaching/management level culpable--with Gary especially culpable if what he did is true. However, you likely have seen that there are still people out there who insist that Kane is still guilty in his 2015 incident in spite of all the evidence to the contrary. That's the kind of culture we unfortunately live in. As this case blows open we probably will find out that Kane, Toews, etc. probably knew--and they likely couldn't have done anything about it without risking their careers. However, that might not be good enough for those who practice cancel culture. I'm sure most of the players know this. And yeah; who ever wrote the letter of recommendation needs to be taken to task for it--just like Gary. Like I said this whole thing Stinks and I hope it doesn't wash off all of those directly complicit in this who actually could have done something.

I listened to it all, when management was told I can picture Bowman with a dumb look on his face while John Mcdonnut ran his big mouth and told them to not involve the police, especially because they were playing San Jose in the playoffs. This whole thing stinks, giving this nasty guy a good reference was one of many huge mistakes because he went on to work at a high school and struck again.

www.tsn.ca/rick-westhead-former-blackhawks-coach-gives-investigators-account-of-player-abuse-allegations-1.1680876i think the blackhawks is denying that a job reference was ever given. Also, they say that they are not responsible for reporting sexual abuse to the police because the victim is an adult and can/should do it himself ? (did i read that right?) "The Blackhawks have asked an Illinois court to dismiss both lawsuits. The team says that it did not have a legal responsibility to report the abuse allegations of the former player because he was not a minor, not disabled, and not over the age of 60 and living in a care facility. The Blackhawks have also said they aren't responsible for the abuse of the teenage player because Aldrich was not provided with a job reference specifically for the coaching position with the Michigan high school team."

www.tsn.ca/rick-westhead-former-blackhawks-coach-gives-investigators-account-of-player-abuse-allegations-1.1680876i think the blackhawks is denying that a job reference was ever given. I'd say MacIsaac is done at the very least, judging from that article...

They should stick with helping children, this has nothing to do with kids and there wasn't physical abuse, just texts and a sick guy masturbated in front of them. Personally I wouldn't knocked him out, stomped his groin to end his bloodline and tell management to fire him.

Personally I wouldn't knocked him out, stomped his groin to end his bloodline and tell management to fire him. This is from a Chicago Tribune article detailing Aldrich's abuse trajectory: March 2013 During an end-of-the season hockey party, Aldrich had sexual contact with a 16-year-old Houghton High School hockey player at a teammate’s house. The incident is not reported until September. Questioned by police, Aldrich admits to having sexual contact with the boy and said “he knew that he was wrong for what he did as he was (the boy’s) high school coach,” according to a police report. In Michigan, a young person may legally consent to sexual activity at 16, but the age of consent is raised to 18 in situations involving someone in a position of authority, such as a coach. So, there was physical abuse. Although, even texts and especially masturbation would qualify as abuse as well. Obviously, the Hawks were no longer his employer at the time; however, the question remains: to what extent the Hawks enabled Aldrich to continue with his predatory behavior. For example, did the Hawks management dissuade the Hawks player from filing a police report? Did they give Aldrich a letter of recommendation? There are enough qualified GMs out there who don't have such a stain on their reputation. He might not have physically abused players in Chicago but he did before and after. McD was let go, Bowman should be as well.

When you have kids, no matter how old they are. Your life’s work is to protect them. As a parent I could not accept that the Hawks knew about this and let him go Scott free. I’m not even talking about the letter of recommendation, if that happened, someone’s gotta go “hunting”. Even a kid in their early 20’s is a target. They’re impressionable. To make the Hawks, I can see how a kid would do so shit they normally wouldn’t do. It’s terrible to think anyone in the Hawks org would let a predator like that go free. Blaming the players and coaches is a moot point. They had zero power to fire the guy or make any decision on the losers future. Management did. They did nothing. No excuses. All of them should be shitcanned!!!
